Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Lucy Old. Lucy had an awesome badminton season playing number one singles on the JV badminton team and then moving up to the varsity badminton team in key tournaments! She earned a position on the sectional badminton team, playing singles. Last Thursday, May 2nd, Lucy had the tournament of a lifetime! She played some inspired badminton, winning matches she shouldn't have. She defeated the fourth ranked singles player in the tournament and was one win away from qualifying for the state tournament! She dropped that last game in unbelievable fashion, losing only after a hard fought three game match. The future is bright for Lucy Old's badminton career. Great job Lucy! Male Athlete of the Week - Ethan Pan, Tennis
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Ethan Pan. This past week Ethan beat a tough DGS opponent constituting the teams only win versus our conference rival. Despite this being the only singles match he has played all season, he won 6-2, 6-2, avenging a loss versus that same player from last year, where he lost 6-7, 0-6. This result is no doubt the product of hard work put in during the offseason and so far in season. With that win, Ethan now has a record of 8-4 on the season and is poised to have a special post-season! Great job Ethan! Congratulations on a great week!

Female Athlete of the Week - Marianna Alvarez, Badminton
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Marianna Alvarez. Marianna had an outstanding performance at the WSC Gold's Varsity Badminton Conference Championships. Marianna has been playing well all season and due to her commitment and dedication, she made the varsity badminton lineup for the ABCD tournament and then rolled that outstanding performance into making the line-up for the conference championships. Marianna's never give up attitude and fight on the court is what makes her one of the fiercest competitors on the varsity badminton team! Her 1st place finish at 10 singles helped the team to another WSC Gold Badminton team championship. She won the 10-singles conference championship with a hard fought 14-21, 21-19, 21-14 win! Male Athlete of the Week - Nick Jason, Gymnastics
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Nick Jason. Nick had an outstanding performance during the WSC Gold Conference meet on Friday, April 26th. Nick took 1st place on Parallel Bars, 2nd place on Pommel Horse, 4th Place on Still Rings, 5th Place on Floor, 8th place on Vault and took 2nd place in the All-Around! Great job Nick! Female Athlete of the Week - Emilija Sinkevicius, Track
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Emilija Sinkevicius. Emilija competed in three events at the Hornet Invite on Friday night and scored 1st in High Jump, 1st in the Triple Jump and 2nd in Long Jump. She started the meet with high jump with a height of 4 '10". Then had to quickly run back to complete her jumps for Long Jump and placed with a jump of 4.90m. Finally, after a short break competed in the triple jump and won with a jump of 10.02m. Scoring a total of 28 points towards our team total. Great job Emilija! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week - Tomasz Lobas, Volleyball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Tomasz Lobas. Tomasz led the hornets to a 3-0 week with wins over St. Laurence (25-21,27-25), Morton (18-25,25-18,25-14), and Geneva (26-28,25-11,25-23). Tomasz had over 20 kills, 7 aces, and several blocks and was a huge factor in a 3-0 week. With the 3 wins the hornets improved their overall record to 14-4! Great job Tomasz! Female Athlete of the Week - Janelle Lewis, Track
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Janelle Lewis. Janelle won the 400m Dash with a 6 second PR of 1:01 at Leyden and was part of our winning 4x400m Relay team. Then with one day rest came back to place 3rd in the 400m Dash at Hinsdale Central Invite and part of our 3rd place 4x400m relay team. Only a sophomore, so many good things to come from Janelle and we cannot wait to see all the improvements she makes. Great job Janelle! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week - Zeke Bisharat, Tennis
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Zeke Bisharat. Zeke is a former two-time state qualifier. Last year he wrapped up the final two weeks of the season by winning sectionals alongside doubles partner Ansh Desai and then placing 7th (all-state) at the state tournament. His first two weeks of this season have started off equally as strong, with Zeke posting a solid 6-0 record. He is 4-0 in singles, dropping only 3 games across these 4 matches, and is also 2-0 in doubles. He’s clearly put in the work during the offseason, and looks to build on the success he’s already experienced as one of the top 1A tennis players in the state. Great job Zeke! Female Athlete of the Week - Abi Rios-Tejeda, Track
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Abi Rios-Tejeda. Abi only a Freshman threw another personal best in the shot put with a mark of 8.30m to take 2nd place on Varsity at the Morton Invite on Saturday, March 9th. Abi helped start off a great day for the Hornets! The Girls went on to score 141 points as a team and finished in 1st place for the 2nd year in a row! Great job Abi! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week - Karam Tajeddin, Track
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Karam Tajeddin! Karam has been the track team's busiest performer, routinely competing in 3 or 4 events every meet. This past week he finished in first place in the 55 meter low hurdles at the Batavia Invitational on Friday 3/1, first in the triple jump at the Wheaton-Warrenville South 5-team meet on 3/7, and ran the anchor leg on our 4X200 meter relay team at the Mustang Relays on 3/4. Female Athlete of the Week - Kelsey Pettry, Bowling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Kelsey Pettry. Kelsey competed at the IHSA State Bowling Tournament on Saturday, February 17th. Kelsey started the state tournament by bowling a season high game of 224. She then continued to bowl away the competition by finishing with a 935 series. Her 935 series set the new state record for bowlers in the bowling chair class. She averaged 156 over those 6 games with a season high 3 game series of 496 as part of her 6 game series. Kelsey has been an amazing leader and member of the Hornet Bowling team for 3 year and we will miss her next season. Congratulations Kelsey!
Male Athlete of the Week - Jack Weigus, Basketball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jack Weigus. After scoring 44 points at home against Willowbrook and 28 against Lemont. Jack is sitting at 999 points ahead of the first-round playoff matchup versus Nazareth Academy. Jack has done an astounding job leading the team, not just in scoring, but by example being co-captain of the team. We are excited to see what he has in store for the rest of his high school playing career. Great job Jack! Congratulations on a great week!

Female Athlete of the Week - Reese Baughman, Danceline
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Reese Baughman. On Saturday, February 11th Reese became a State Champion Soloist at the 45th Annual Illinois Dance Team State Championship. Reese competed among 49 other qualifying soloists at the state competition. This is a first State Champion Soloist in Hinsdale South history! Congratulations Reese, you make Hornet Nation so proud!
Male Athlete of the Week - Jovani Piazza, Wrestling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jovani Piazza. After a dominating performance at the Lemont Regional, Jovani continued on his mission to the IHSA State Tournament. He once again dominated his weight class and turned in another outstanding performance in capturing the Hinsdale South Sectional earning himself a trip to Champaign for the IHSA State Finals. Female Athlete of the Week - Callie Carr, Wrestling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Callie Carr. On January 26th & 27th, Callie participated in the Girls IHSA Regional @ Shepard High School. Callie pinned her first three opponents, putting herself in the championship match against a two-time state medalist from West Aurora. In a very hard-fought match Callie prevailed with a 5-2 decision victory earning herself the IHSA Regional Championship. Great Job Callie! Congratulations on a great meet! Male Athlete of the Week - Parker Chan, Swimming
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Parker Chan. After coming back from a weeklong illness, Parker showed his resilience on Friday night at our last home meet of the season against Morton when he broke his own pool record in the 100 Backstroke. On Saturday, Parker came home from the Lyons Invitational with a big win in the 200 Individual Medley and a 2nd place in the 100 Backstroke against some strong state contenders. Female Athlete of the Week - Madison Witucki, Bowling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Madison Witucki. Madison competed with the team at 2 dual meets and one tournament last week. Madison averaged 195 over those 12 games with the team high 3 game series of 630 and a team high 6 game series of 1153 at Strikefest. Madison was the top bowler in the matches against Hinsdale Central and York for all competing bowlers from both schools. We are proud of how hard Madison has worked this season. She has become an outstanding member of the team in her first season. Great Job Madison! Congratulations on a great week!
Malel Athlete of the Week - Andrew Musil, Wrestling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Andrew Musil. On Thursday at our Home meet vs. Leyden, Andrew beat a returning Varsity wrestler. He controlled the entire match almost getting a pin but winning by Major Decision 13-4 in the end. On Saturday at the Plainfield Central Quad, Andrew went 3-0 for the day. He had an extremely physical match vs the Normal Community wrestler which turned into a 6 point win for the team and then won the remaining two matches for the day, gathering 18 team points and helping the team come home with 3 Dual wins. Female Athlete of the Week - Annabella Ramirez
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Annabella Ramirez. Annabella has a habit of running her best at the end of the season, setting lifetime P.R.'s in the IHSA post-season every year of her high school running career. This season was no different as Annabella ran a lifetime P.R. at the Regional race at Miller Meadow of 20:41. Annabella also ran a strong Sectional race to finish as the fifth individual qualifier and punch her ticket to State. Annabella keeps a streak of eight years of the Hinsdale South girls sending at least one individual to the State meet at Peoria's Detweiller Park. Great Job Annabella! Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Andrew Petersen. Andrew a junior continued his excellent and consistent season by qualifying for the IHSA State Championship Meet in Peoria through his performance at the Sectional Meet at Lewis University. Andrew also was named All-Conference earlier in the season, and has stepped up as a reliable force in our lineup. Congrats Andrew! Congratulations on a great week!

Female Athlete of the Week - Chloe Goins, Tennis
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Chloe Goins. Chloe dominated at state this weekend! She swept through her first 4 rounds, playing confidently and competitively. Her only loss was in the semis to the top seed, but she showed true grit and perseverance in her game play, making her opponent earn every point. She finished her state run winning her 3rd place match in straight sets. Chloe had an amazing season ending her season with a 27-3 record, and as an All-Conference and All State athlete. Great Job Chloe! Congratulations on a great year!
Male Athlete of the Week - Nathaniel Fundator, Football
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Nathaniel Fundator. Nathaniel finished the football season in a memorable way by scoring touchdowns both rushing and receiving. He also had some huge plays on defense. Our offense had over 400 yards of offense and Nathaniel was a major contributor. He scored on a run of 64 yards to open the scoring for our 42-16 victory over Morton. He also caught a 53 yard pass to score our 2 touchdown. He had great leadership all week as a captain and helped motivate our team and bring home success on our senior night. Great job Nathaniel! Congratulations on a great game!

Female Athlete of the Week - Hailey Goins & Arya Selvaraj
Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week Hailey Goins and Arya Selvaraj. Hailey & Arya have had an amazing season. They finished the regular season 8-10. They had a rough start, but they showed tremendous improvement and confidence as the season continued. In the #1 doubles spot, they are playing tough matches and have had to step up their game consistently. They lived up to their goal and finished 4th at Sectionals to gain a spot at the IHSA State Tournament - both of them, their first experience at state! They have been leaders in our program and I am impressed at the sportsmanship and competitiveness they continue to exhibit. Great Job Hailey & Arya! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week - Jimmy Martin, Soccer
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jimmy Martin. Jimmy ended a strong regular season with one of his best games. Jimmy created many chances against Proviso East and ended the game scoring 4 goals. He was dominant from the start and ended the regular season with a team high 16 goals. Great job Jimmy! Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Lexi Fedinec. Lexi led the Girls Volleyball team in kills this past weekend at the Glenbard West Invitational. She amassed 29 kills throughout the tournament earning her all-tournament honors! Lexi earned points off of her powerful swings in addition to her smart placement of the ball. Great Job Lexi! Male Athlete of the Week - Wojtek Gilarski, Cross Country
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Wojtek Gilarski. Wojtek continued his great sophomore season with a 9th place finish in the championship flight at the Minooka Flight Invitational in a personal best 3-mile time of 16:01. In his first two races of the season, he was victorious, finishing first against Morton and against Downers Grove South and Proviso East. Great job Wojtek! Congratulations on a great week!

Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Chloe Goins. Chloe is a fierce competitor and leads the team on the court through her perseverance and mental toughness. She is currently 6-2 on the season and was 3-0 this past week at 1 singles. She had wins over Downers Grove South, Nazareth & Willowbrook. She shows tremendous strength and leadership both on and off the court. She is receptive to feedback and stays focused through every practice and match. Male Athlete of the Week - Mikey Jefferson, Football
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Mikey Jefferson. Mikey ran hard behind a determined offensive line and totaled 174 yards and 2 TD’s to help lead the Hornets to a 28-0 victory over Leyden in conference play. He had some tremendous breakaway runs and many yards after contact leading our offense in production. Mikey also did a great job blocking for his teammates when he didn't have the ball showing a selfless attitude. Great job Mikey! Congratulations on a great game!

Female Athlete of the Week - Kotryna Melstrad, Volleyball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Kotryna Melstrad. In 6 matches this week, Kotryna racked up 11 aces and 29 kills at both the outside and rightside positions. In addition, Kotryna held down the defensive side of the game with a team leading 1.81 serve receive rating, with a near perfect service reception record. Kotryna also earned all-tournament honors at the Metea Valley Invite! Great Job Kotryna! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week - Jake Lu, Soccer
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jake Lu. Jake has gotten off to a great start to the soccer season. On Friday night Jake scored his first two goals of the season. The first came from the penalty spot and his second was scored a few minutes later from a cross. He continued to create many different chances throughout the game. On Saturday morning Jake picked up right where he left off. He scored two more goals and had an assist in the win over Hancock. Jake either scored or assisted on five of our seven goals this week. Female Athlete of the Week - Sophia Chen, Girls Golf
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Sophia Chen. Sophia competed with the team at the Conant Early Season Invite, matches against Glenbard West, Naperville Central, Hinsdale Central and the Willowbrook Rachel Gibson Invite. Sophia was the team low score in the Conant Invite with an 87 and against Hinsdale Central with a 47. Sophia was the medalist against Glenbard West and Naperville Central with the lowest score of all of the golfers shooting a 43 against Glenbard and a 41 against Naperville Central. Sophia was instrumental in the team's success at the Willowbrook Rachel Gibson Invite. The team finished in 4th place out of 9 teams and Sophia won the 2nd Place medal for her score of 33. We are proud of how quickly Sophia has become an important member of the team. She has demonstrated quiet leadership as well as sportsmanship in her short time on the team. Great Job Sophia! Male Athlete of the Week - Tommy Gneiser, Boys Golf
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Tommy Gneiser. Tommy was medalist (best score) in all 4 of the Varsity's matches last week! Tommy started the week, shooting 35(1 under par) vs. DGN, that was better than any player on either team. Tommy shot 37 vs. Hinsdale Central and Lyons Township in consecutive days. Both those scores were medalists for Hinsdale South. On Saturday, Tommy shot 78 for 18 holes, again medalist for the Hornets. Great job Tommy! Congratulations on a great week!
