Week of May 8th
Female Athlete of the Week: Maggie Chen, Badminton

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Maggie Chen. Maggie has had an amazing four year badminton career at Hinsdale South.  If not for losing her freshman season to COVID, Maggie would have been a four-time All-State badminton singles player at Hinsdale South.  She finished out an undefeated senior year at 33-0 and finished fourth in singles at the IHSA state badminton championships.  Maggie has been a “new and improved” captain all year and the time and dedication she has put into her craft has allowed her to be one of the best badminton players in the State of Illinois for four straight years!  As her legacy, Maggie has positioned herself to be one of the top 5 badminton players at Hinsdale South over our 30-year badminton history! Congratulations Maggie Chen!!!!

Male Athlete of the Week: Ethan Pan & Isaac Choi, Tennis

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Ethan Pan and Isaac Choi. Sophomores Ethan & Isaac became conference champions this past weekend at the second doubles position over conference rival DGS. After falling 3-6 in the first set, they came back to win the second set 6-1 and the third set tiebreaker 10-5. This is made more remarkable by the fact that Isaac was on JV last season! Ethan will be representing the team as a singles player as we enter the state series.  Great job Ethan & Isaac! Congratulations on a great week!


Week of April 24th
Female Athlete of the Week: Amelia Hoch, Badminton

Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Amelia Hoch. Amelia has had an awesome badminton season!  As one of our senior captains, Amelia's leadership has been constantly felt throughout the entire program.  She finished off her regular season as a double conference champion!  Amelia finished first at #1 doubles and she also finished first at #5 singles.  One of the most awesome things about these finishes for Amelia, is that she completed these goals all the while battling a severe ankle injury.  Amelia had the drive and motivation to fight through this injury in achieving her own personal and team goals! Great Job Amelia! Congratulations on a great week!

Male Athlete of the Week: Andrew Miller, Baseball

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Andrew Miller. Andrew had a tremendous week for the Hornets Baseball Program.  Over the course of the week the Hornets were undefeated and Andrew paced the offense.  Andrew had a .555 batting average, going 10 for 18, over the 4-game span and scored 9 runs while knocking in 6 RBIs.  In addition to having an awesome offensive week, Andrew stepped up defensively at 1B, 3B, and even 2B when the team needed him.  Great job Andrew! Congratulations on a great week!


Week of April 10th
Female Athlete of the Week: Sam Mettel, Badminton

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Sam Mettel. Sam has had an awesome badminton season so far!  She has anchored our #3 singles position and has played some great badminton at our major tournaments so far. This past week, Sam finished in second place at the Naperville Central invitational at #2 singles.  She continued the week with a dominant win against Lincoln-Way East at #2 singles and Morton also at #2 singles.  Sam finished off her stellar week helping the team place second at New Trier's Featherfest tournament by winning some great matches at #2 singles. Great Job Sam! Congratulations on a great week!

Male Athlete of the Week: Nathan Ockrim, Volleyball

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Nathan Ockrim. Nathan led the Hornets to a 2-1 week with wins of Bolingbrook (25-20,20-25,25-22) and Larkin (23-25,25-16,25-19). Nathan had 20 kills, 4 blocks, and 4 aces. Along with great serve receive, Nathan set the pace for the offense to be successful.  Great Job Nathan! Congratulations on a great week!


Week of March 13th
Female Athlete of the Week: Kennedy Ruff, Track & Field

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Kennedy Ruff. Kennedy competed in three events (four with running prelims) the 55m Hurdles - 4th Place, 400m Dash - 2nd place 1:04 - Season Best, and was part of our winning 4x400m Relay team (4:25). Kennedy's outstanding performances at the WSC Indoor Conference meet helped to earn our team 22 points towards our team total of 108 which helped us to earn 2nd place on Varsity level. Great Job Kennedy! Congratulations on a great meet!

Male Athlete of the Week: Amari Alexander, Track & Field

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Amari Alexander. Amari just wrapped up his indoor season and had 2 all conference performances at the West Suburban Gold Conference meet this past weekend.  Amari placed 1st in the 200 meter dash and 2nd in the 55 meter dash in addition to running the lead leg in the 4th place 4x160 relay.  Amari has seen great improvements since his freshman year and we look to see the same as he competes now in the outdoor season.  Great Job Amari! Week of March 6th
Female Athlete of the Week: Katarina Petrovic, Track & Field

​​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Katarina Petrovic. Katarina earned two personal bests at the Morton Invite on Saturday when she placed 1st in the 55m Dash with a time of 7.53 and 1st in the 200m Dash with a time of 27.97. Those two first place finishes helped to give our team 20 points towards our team total helping Varsity capture 1st place overall for the meet. Great Job Katarina! Congratulations on a great week!

Male Athlete of the Week: Zayd Truttling, Track & Field

​​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Zayd Truttling. Zayd continues to excel in the sprints for our team improving weekly in the 55 and 200 meter dash.  In addition, he has been a valuable member in our sprint relay as the 2nd leg during our indoor season.  Zayd demonstrates a strong daily work ethic and has been a valuable senior that our team can rely on so far this season.  Keep up the great work Zayd heading into the conference meet!!! Week of January 30th
Female Athlete of the Week: Ashley Leban, Bowling

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Ashley Leban. Ashley competed with the team at the West Suburban Conference John Ryan Headpin Tournament and the IHSA Regional hosted by Hinsdale South.  Ashley averaged a 180 over those 12 games with a high series of 1103 at the John Ryan Conference Tournament.  Ashley was named an All-Conference Bowler as well as an All-Academic Bowler for West Suburban Conference and was the medalist for Hinsdale South. At the Regional competition, Ashley bowled well enough to qualify for Sectionals with a 1044 series.  We are proud of how hard Ashley has worked this season.  She has demonstrated excellent leadership as well as sportsmanship in her 4 years on the team. Congratulations Ashley on a great week and good luck at Sectionals!

Male Athlete of the Week: Brendan Savage, Basketball

​​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Brendan Savage. Brendan was a key part of the Hornet offense during the week. On Tuesday night vs. Addison Trail Brendan had 16 points, on Friday night vs. Proviso East Brendan had 35 points and on Saturday Brendan had 20 points vs. Lyons Township. For the week Brendan averaged 23.7 points per game and 4.7 rebounds. Great Job Brendan! Congratulations on a great week!

Female Athlete of the Week: Varsity Danceline

​Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week – Varsity Danceline. Danceline competed in the IHSA Dance State finals for the 11th consecutive year (each year since IHSA Dance Started in 2013).  Hornet Danceline is one of four 2A teams to qualify for state every single year.  The team finished 11th out of 30 routines; placing them in the top 12 that advanced to Day 2 Finals Competition.  This is the first time in school history that Danceline was able to compete in person at the IHSA State Day 2 Finals. Congratulations Hornet Danceline.
Male Athlete of the Week: Varsity Bowling

​Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week – Varsity Boys Bowling. On Friday the Hornets traveled to O’Fallon to compete in the IHSA State Championship. The boys shot a 6036 and finished in 9th place out of 24 teams to advance to day two. The boys continued to compete on Saturday and finished 11th overall in the state, best finish in school history! The team averaged 197.3 for the tournament.  Gianluca DiNardi paced the team with a 1270 series and a 2525 two day total. This put him in 26th place overall.  Zakhari Williams was right behind with a 1213 series and a 2503 two day total, which was good for 36th place.  Matt Camacho (2329) and Rudy Flores (2287) also bowled twelve games over the weekend.  Joey McDavid, EJ Mazzei, Mikie Aylward, and Noal Cook also contributed to help in the team’s success. Congrats on a great year!

Week of December 12th
Female Athlete of the Week: Anya Patel, Gymnastics

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Anya Patel. This past Saturday Anya help lead the Girls Gymnastics Team to a 3rd Place finish at the Palatine Invite with a team score of 131.400. Anya took 1st on Floor Exercise, 1st on Balance Beam, 3rd on Vault, 4th on Uneven Bars & 2nd All Around! Great Job Anya! Congratulations on a great meet!

Male Athlete of the Week: Jovani Piazza, Wrestling

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jovani Piazza. Jovani is an exemplary athlete in the wrestling room. He is a team player and leader. Jovani was chosen as one of the captains this year and has taken this as his personal mission. He works hard and encourages every other athlete in the room to do their best as well. Jovani currently has a 12-1 record, receiving his only loss at the Rex Whitlach tournament this past weekend where he faced extremely tough competition and placed 3rd.  Great Job Jovani! Congratulations on a great week!


Week of November 28th
Female Athlete of the Week: Mia Lavorato, Girls Basketball

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Mia Lavorato. The Varsity Lady Hornets opened up conference play on Tuesday in dramatic fashion with an overtime win over conference rival Willowbrook. The Hornets beat the Warriors 60-53. Junior Mia chipped in 14 points. Mia hit 3 three pointers and made some clutch free throws. On Saturday, Mia took 2 charges and was a great leader on the floor guiding the Hornets to a 46-26 victory over Morton and a 2-0 record in conference! Great Job Mia! Congratulations on a great Week!

Male Athlete of the Week: Gianluca DiNardi, Boys Bowling

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Gianluca DiNardi. Gianluca had an outstanding week of bowling, leading the team to a 2-1 record and championship at the IC Catholic Prep Invite.  He shot 3-game series of 673, 663, and 664.  Gianluca also finished in the top 10 in both high series and high game at IC invite. Great Job Gianluca! Congratulations on a great week!


Week of October 24th
Female Athlete of the Week: Abby Petersen, Cross Country

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Abby Petersen. Abby ran a season P.R. and qualified for State for the third time at the IHSA Sectional this past Saturday. Abby was seeded to be placed 45th at the meet and instead came in 30th place, earning her the 8th individual qualifying spot to the State Meet this coming weekend in Peoria! Abby qualified for State every year it was possible in her high school career. Great Job Abby! Congratulations on a great meet and good luck at State!

Male Athlete of the Week: Dziugas Meiliulis, Cross Country

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Dziugas Meiliulis. Dziugas finished the season strong, as he was the Hornets' top runner at the Regional and Sectional Championships, placing 10th and 69th, respectively. He also finished 10th in the prestigious Plainfield Fast/Cat fresh/soph meet against many of the top 3A cross country teams in the Western Suburbs. Dziugas finished 4th place in the sophomore division of the West Suburban Gold Conference, and finished with a personal best of 16:38 for 3 miles this year. Great Job Dziugas! Week of October 17th
Female Athlete of the Week: Tian Schulte, Cross Country

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Tian Schulte. Tian had an outstanding performance at the IHSA Regional meet. Tian has traditionally placed as our number 7 runner, but in Saturday’s meet at KLM she came in the top 25 and out-seeded her ranking by more than 20 places. She took 4th for our team and was an incremental part to our placing 4th overall.  She really stepped it up for the team!! Great Job Tian! Congratulations on a great race and good luck at Sectionals!

Male Athlete of the Week: Robbie Spang, Football

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Robbie Spang. Robbie had a career night week 9 vs Addison Trail The Hornets defeated Addison Trail 42-14 to finish 4-2 in the west suburban gold division. Robbie was 7 for 7 with 209 yards passing and 4 passing touchdowns. Robbie has demonstrated leadership in the face of adversity all season and is deserving of this honor. Great job Robbie! Congratulations on a great game!


Week of October 10th
Female Athlete of the Week: Elena Garcia, Cross Country

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week senior Elena Garcia. Elena had an incredible performance at Conference this past weekend.  She moved up to the number 2 runner position for the Varsity race, helping to lead our team to a 3rd place finish overall.  She had a 29 second PR, earning her 16th place and an All-Conference honors! Great Job Elena! Congratulations on a great race and good luck at Regionals!

Male Athlete of the Week: Nathaniel Fundater, Football

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Nathaniel Fundater. Nathaniel scored 2 rushing touchdowns in helping defeat Proviso East 49-8 on Homecoming. Both were big plays that got the team and crowd going on a cold and rainy night.   Additionally, he played both ways to help the defense secure outstanding field position for the offense multiple times.  When Nathan was not running the ball he was blocking for others allowing for the team to score 7 total touchdowns.  He also secured the ball when Proviso east attempted an onside kick. Great job Nathaniel! Congratulations on a great game!


Week of October 3rd
Female Athlete of the Week: Chloe Goins, Tennis

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Chloe Goins. Chloe had an amazing performance at her Conference Tournament this weekend! She only dropped one game the entire tournament and finished 1st in her flight because of it. Her work this tournament and this season helped lead the team to finish second in conference along with the help of everyone else. Her dedication towards the sport was really shown this week! Great Job Chloe! Congratulations on a great week and good luck at Sectionals!

Male Athlete of the Week: Tommy Gneiser, Golf

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Tommy Gneiser. Tommy had a fantastic end to his golf season.  After qualifying for sectionals with an 82, he shot 5 strokes better on a more difficult golf course to qualify for the state tournament.  Tommy hit his ball in the water on 15 and it seemed like his season was over.  He somehow bounced back and finished even par on the 3 most difficult holes on the golf course.  His ticket was punched for the state Championship golf tournament in Bloomington.  
Tommy played very well on the first day of the state tournament shooting 75. He birdied 3 of his final 6 holes on the back 9 to finish tied for 9th out of 112 golfers.   The second day Tommy shot 81 and finished the tournament tied for 30th. Tommy's season was one of the best in Hinsdale South history!  . Great job Tommy! Congratulations on a great year!


Week of September 26th
Female Athlete of the Week: Anna Wilcox, Cross Country

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Anna Wilcox. Anna is the first freshman to win the Pat Savage Invitational at the Fresh/Soph level since 2002. She has been running progressively better all season but had an outstanding breakthrough time of 20:35 earning herself a solid spot on Varsity for the remainder of the season. Great Job Anna! Congratulations on a great Meet!

Male Athlete of the Week: Kayden Miller, Cross Country

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Kayden Miller. Kayden, a senior, was our first finisher at the Peoria High Invitational this Saturday, finishing with a personal best time of 16:36 on the 3-mile course, a personal best by over 40 seconds. The Hornets finished 19th out of more than 40 teams, and used pack running to perfection, as all five of our scoring runners finished within 5 seconds of each other. Great Job Kayden! Congratulations on a great meet!


Week of September 19th 
Female Athlete of the Week: Claudia Budzak, Volleyball

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Claudia Budzak. Claudia was chosen for her commitment to her varsity team and the whole Hornet Volleyball program. Even though she has shown it every week this season, this past week especially Claudia proved what having tenacity really means. Claudia showed up and did her job as the Lady Hornets took care of business against Morton and Glenbard South.  In the match against the Mustangs from Morton, Budzak had 3 kills and 1 block. In the match against the Raiders from Glenbard South, she helped close out a program sweep with 3 kills and 2 blocks. Claudia has been a very crucial part of our offense this season. Great Job Claudia! Congratulations on a great week!

Male Athlete of the Week: Sam Schuyler, Football

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Sam Schuyler. Sam rarely came off the field and led our football team to a 27-17 victory over Morton to remain undefeated in the WSC Gold.  Sam had 3 interceptions with 1 returned for a touchdown at the start of the second half.  This gave our team the lead and we never looked back.  On offense, Sam rushed for close to 100 yards and a 10 yard average per rushing attempt.  His long was 19 yards behind a hard working offensive line. He played hard all night in all 3 phases of the game. Great Job Sam! Congratulations on a great game!


Week of September 12th
Female Athlete of the Week: Ava Chamberlain, Tennis
Male Athlete of the Week: Wojtek Gilarski, Cross Country

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Ava Chamberlain. Ava competed in the Lockport Flighted Tournament in which she was able to win her Singles flight! Her first of the tournament was a solid starting round in which she played against Marian Catholic, winning 8-2. Her next round against Lockport, was when she caught stride for her tennis play for the day, achieving a victory with a score of 8-0. The Semi-finals of her flight she kept her momentum rolling as she defeated Plainfield North 8-3 putting her into the finals. Her final match she played against the other Lockport entry and had a tough battle, yet persevered through adversity to net her a victory over Lockport 8-6 in the finals. This brought Ava's final record to 4-0 and the championship of her singles flight. Great Job Ava! Congratulations on a great week!

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Wojtek Gilarski. Wojtek placed 62nd in a field of almost 400 in the fresh/soph division of the Richard Spring Invitational with a 3-mile time of 17:34. He led the team to a second straight top-20 finish in the field of over 50 teams! Great Job Wojtek! Congratulations on a great week!


Week of September 5th
​Female Athlete of the Week: Amelia Lavorato, Golf

​​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Amelia Lavorato. Amelia led the team to a strong start of the season helping the hornets to 3 victories. Amelia has the top average on the team and has been medalist 3 times. Amelia has improved throughout the season tremendously.  She also managed to get her career low score. We are proud of how hard Amelia has worked and demonstrated leadership as well as sportsmanship in her 3 years on the team. Great Job Amelia! Congratulations on a great week!

Male Athlete of the Week: Jimmy Martin, Soccer

​Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jimmy Martin. Jimmy had a dominant week scoring in all three of our games. He started the week with 1 goal and 2 assists in a 3-0 win against Proviso East. He scored 3 goals and had an assist in a 5-3 win over Joliet Central. He ended the week with a goal against Argo. He scored or assisted on 8 of our 10 goals this week. Great job Jimmy! Congratulations on a great week!
