Female Athlete of the Week: Stephanie Rochowicz, Softball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Stephanie Rochowicz. Last week, Stephanie consistently crushed the ball. Against Addison Trail, she went 3 for 4 with 2 singles and a double. She scored 3 runs that game. In the game against Morton, Stephanie hit 1.000 going 2 for 2 with a walk and FOUR RBIs. She also had 2 runs scored. Most importantly, she pitched a full 7 innings for the JV team (after not having really pitched in years) and was the epitome of our mantra “move the bus.” Keep that bat hot, and that team-first philosophy high! Male Athlete of the Week: Noah Sadowski, Track
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Noah Sadowski. Noah continues to improve in the sprints with strong performances in the 100 and 200. He has consistently placed in the top 3 of all of our meets so far. Great job Noah! Congratulations on a great week!

Female Athlete of the Week: Abbey Leban, Softball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Abbey Leban. Abbey pitched every single inning of softball this week against 3 different opponents: Morton, Leyden, and OPRF. She had 23 total strikeouts in those three games. Her outing against OPRF was especially impressive as she did not walk a single batter, and all 3 of OPRF’s runs were earned (they are a strong hitting team). Batting against OPRF’s notoriously good pitcher, Abbey was 2 for 3 and walked once, making her OBP .750!! She also racked up another 3 hits in the games against Morton and Leyden. She is one mentally tough cookie on the mound, and our team couldn’t be more proud of her. Great job Abbey! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week: Andrew Musil, Bass Fishing
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Andrew Musil. Andrew led Hinsdale South Boat #1 team at the Sectional tournament catching every bass and the largest bass caught by a HSHS angler in the State Series securing a spot at this year's Bass Fishing State Finals. Great job Andrew! Good luck at the State Finals!

Female Athlete of the Week: Jakira Johnson & Diana Mason
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jakira Johnson & Diana Mason. Jakira & Diana are members of the Hinsdale South Special Olympics track team. On Saturday, May 1st, the team competed in the Regional competition at Marmion High School. Jakira beat her personal record in every event that she competed in: 100 M dash, 200 M run, softball throw and the javelin. Diana is a freshman and this was her first competition. She volunteered to compete in every event that had an open spot even though she had not been practicing for them. She did her best and showed some great team spirit. She was in the 100 M ash, 400 M run, softball throw and the javelin. Great job Jakira & Diana! Congratulations on a great meet!
Male Athlete of the Week: Grant Balsys, Gymnastics
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Grant Balsys. Grant had an outstanding performance during the WSC Gold Conference Meet on Friday, April 30th. He was the Conference Champion on Floor, took 2nd on Vault and 5th on Still Rings. He also competed in Pommel Horse (10th), Parallel Bars (10th) and Horizontal Bar (11th) helping him finish 3rd in the All Around. Great job Grant! Congratulations on a great meet!

Female Athlete of the Week: Joy Nwonye, Girls Track
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Joy Nwonye. Joy threw a PR toss of 73'7" in the discus which got her 1st place for varsity in our Leyden triangular on Saturday, April 24th. Joy keeps improving with each practice and we look forward to how she progresses through the season. Great job Joy! Congratulations on a great meet!
Male Athlete of the Week: Luke Terrell, Football
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Luke Terrell. Luke was a major contributor on both sides of the ball in Friday's 31-21 victory of Leyden on senior night. Luke has been a selfless team player but his individual effort stood out. He recorded a rushing touchdown as well as an interception to secure victory. Both of these came at critical times to change the momentum of the game. Great job Luke! Congratulations on a great game!

Female Athlete of the Week: Cheli Ayala, Volleyball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Cheli Ayala. Cheli rose to the challenge this year! She is only a sophomore, but has stepped up and filled a huge role in the libero position. Cheli works hard every day to improve her skills on and off the court. During our matches against Downers Grove South, Addison Trail and Proviso East she totaled 1 ace, 4 assists and led the team with 21 digs. Great job Cheli! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week: Ben Bush, Soccer
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Ben Bush. Ben scored a great goal against Glenbard West and played well throughout the entire game. He helped keep the midfield organized and created multiple chances for us to score. On Senior Night, he also converted a penalty kick in overtime against Proviso East to give us a 3-2 lead. We missed Ben for a lot of the season due to an injury, but his leadership made an instant impact once he was healthy enough to play. Congrats on a great week and an awesome four years in the program!

Female Athlete of the Week: Mattea Collier, Volleyball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Mattea Collier. Mattea had 8 kills, 1 setting assist and 4 digs during the matches against Leyden and Proviso West. Mattea is the comic relief on our team and is the core person responsible for hyping up her teammates. Mattea is one of the hardest workers in the girls’ volleyball program. She is always the first person to jump in a drill and always looking for ways to improve her game. Great job Mattea! Congratulations on a great week!

Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Henry Mihindou. Henry won the All-around competition at the Boys Gymnastics Tri meet vs Downers Grove South and Leyden scoring 41.6 points for the team. Great job Henry! Congratulations on a great meet!

Female Athlete of the Week: Maggie Chen, Badminton
Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week Maggie Chen. Maggie achieved a wonderful goal at the IHSA State Badminton Championships on March 31st. As a sophomore, Maggie finished in third place in singles at the 2021 IHSA State Badminton Championships. Her only loss was to the eventual state champion. Maggie finished the season with an incredible 37-1 record! Maggie earned “All-State” honors with her third place finish. She has positioned herself to the even greater goal of being “All-State” throughout her four year high school career. Congratulations Maggie on a great season!
Male Athlete of the Week: Allen Kozlica, Soccer
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Allen Kozlica. Allen helped lead the varsity soccer team to a 4-0 lead over Willowbrook. Allen was a vocal leader on the field and took control of the game from the opening kickoff. He scored an incredible volley near the end line, over the goalkeeper's head and into the side netting to help put the team up 2-0. It also brought him up to a tie as leading goal scorer on the team. Allen played very well on the ball and helped create many chances for his teammates. He has had a strong season so far and will continue to provide leadership and organization to the team. Congrats Allen!!!

Female Athlete of the Week: Varsity Cheerleading Team
Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week the Varsity Cheerleading Team. In a short 6 week season these girls worked so hard to reach their goal of qualifying for IHSA Cheerleading State Finals. This is only the 5th EVER Hinsdale South Cheerleading Team to qualify for IHSA State Finals! They finished in 20th Place which is the 2nd highest place in school history! It is also the highest ever finish while competing the in the medium division! We are so proud of you girls! Congrats on a great season! #SouthPride
Male Athlete of the Week: Will Gallagher, Swimming
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Will Gallagher. Will finished the season on a high note. At the WSC Gold Conference Championships, Will won the 200 Free and 100 Breaststroke. Will's times in both events were good enough to break the Conference records. Will's 100 Breaststroke time of 55:03 broke the Varsity record at Hinsdale South, and he finished 2nd place overall in the state and earning All-State honors. This time also earned him an automatic All-American bid. Will finished 14th in the State in the 200 free, also earning All-State honors this season. WAY TO GO, WILL!!

Female Athlete of the Week: Rayva Verma, Badminton
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Rayva Verma. Rayva had a great week of badminton from 3/1 to 3/6. On Wednesday, Rayva dominated Leyden 21-7, 21-2 in convincing fashion. Rayva followed that performance up with another "I'm In" beating of Glenbard West 21-4, 21-1 on Saturday. Congratulations Rayva on a great week and season of badminton so far!
Male Athlete of the Week: Bobby Durkin, Basketball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Bobby Durkin. Bobby had an outstanding week of games, leading the Boys’ Varsity Basketball team to a 3-1 record on the week with wins over rivals Hinsdale Central, Downers South, and Willowbrook! Bobby averaged an extremely impressive 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals per game. Against Willowbrook, Bobby scored 25 points, hitting 5 three-pointers, and had 6 steals, leading the Hornets to a big home win. Bobby has been a great teammate and leader all season for the Hornets, and through his hard work will only continue to get better. Great job Bobby! Congratulations on a great week!

Female Athlete of the Week: Jennifer Cleghorn, Girls Bowling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jennifer Cleghorn. Jennifer competed with the team at 1 dual meet last week. Jennifer averaged a 206 over those 3 games with a high game of 234 against Leyden and a season high 617 series in the match. Jennifer was the top bowler in that match for all competing bowlers from both schools. She also managed to make 76% of her 1 pin spares over the course of the season. We are proud of how hard Jennifer has worked this season. She has demonstrated excellent leadership as well as sportsmanship in her 4 years on the team. Great job Jennifer! Male Athlete of the Week: Jacob Jones, Boys Bowling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jacob Jones. Jacob had a great week of bowling to help the Hornets defeat Naperville Central and Immaculate Conception. Against Naperville Central Jacob shot a 584 series with games of 220, 201, and 163. He led the team against Immaculate Conception with a 619 series and games of 182, 193, and 244. Jacob is a great teammate and strives to improve on a daily basis. Great job Jacob! Congratulations on a great week!

Female Athlete of the Week: Varsity Danceline team
Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week the Varsity Danceline team for winning the West Suburban Conference Dance Championship for the first time in school history! Nine schools competed in the Conference Championship on February, 20th. Despite being the smallest school in the Conference, the Hornet Danceline team came out victorious. Congratulations Dancers!
Male Athlete of the Week: Zakhari Williams, Boys Bowling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Zakhari Williams. Zakhari continued a great start to the season by once again leading the team. In the win against Naperville Central he shot a nice 561 series. Zakhari set a high game mark for the season against Lyons Township with 277. He is currently leading the team with a 192 average. Female Athlete of the Week: Abby Leban, Girls Bowling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Abbey Leban. Abbey competed with the team at 3 dual meets last week. Abbey averaged a 195 over those 3 matches with a high game of 223 against Morton and a career high 259 game and 658 series in the victory over Hinsdale Central. Abbey was the top bowler in 2 of the 3 matches for all competing bowlers from all schools. She also managed to make 100% of her 1 pin spares in the Central match and 77% over the course of the week. We are proud of how hard Abbey has worked and demonstrated leadership as well as sportsmanship in her 4 years on the team. Great job Abby! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week: Lukas Simkus, Boys Swimming
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Lukas Simkus. We are very excited to have Lukas with us this year, he is a tremendous asset to our team and will help continue a great swimming tradition here at Hinsdale South High School. Lukas is a freshman this year, but is having a very big impact on the varsity level thus far. Lukas competed on the varsity levels during the last two meets and proved he is ready to meet the challenges of a varsity athlete. Lukas gives 100% both at practice and during meets as he has risen to the occasion of swimming 4 events, including back to back events at times with very little rest. Yet still producing his top best times. Awesome job Lucas, keep up the great work! Congratulations on a great week!

Female Athlete of the Week: Abby Petersen, Girls Cross Country
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Abby Petersen. Abby has consistently been the #1 runner for the Girls’ Cross Country team the entire 2020 season. In the Regional Meet, she competed well finishing 11th and placing where she was seeded. At the Sectional Meet, the competition grew even stiffer and she stepped up her performance TREMENDOUSLY, placing 12th overall. She was 10 places ahead of what she was seeded and this jump in placement allowed our team to tie for 7th place, advancing to the State Meet as a team for the second year in a row. Abby is an incredible athlete and we look forward to seeing what she does at the unofficial state meet this weekend in Chillicothe!! Great job Abby! Congratulations on a great year!
Male Athlete of the Week: Jake Schilling, Aaron Koehler & Owen Atkinson.
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jake Schilling, Aaron Koehler & Owen Atkinson. The three have been among the top 5 runners on our team virtually all year, and it would be nearly impossible to feature just one, as the 3 of them finished within 8 seconds of each other at the Sectional meet despite being in 2 separate flights due to field-size limitations. Jake is a 4-year member of the team and was last year’s most improved runner, while Aaron is a 2nd year varsity performer and Owen is in his 1st year of high school cross country. All contributed greatly to the success and culture of this year’s team. Great job Jake, Aaron & Owen! Congratulations on a great year!

Female Athlete of the Week: Yuliya Drabchuk & Charlotte Old
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Yuliya Drabchuk and Charlotte Old. Yuliya & Charlotte packed up at the Regional meet, racing in the top flight of 3 runners. Together, they scored a total of 24 points lowest than predicted which helped push our team to 3rd place. Yuliya finished with a time of 21:00.7 taking 17th place and Charlotte finished in 21:03.0 taking 19th place overall. Incredible performances by both of our freshman! Great job Yuliya & Charlotte! Male Athlete of the Week: Julian Watson, Boys Cross Country
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Julian Watson. Julian on Saturday won his third consecutive individual Regional title, a feat not accomplished by any other runner in school history. In 9 meets, he has only lost to one other runner, a runner that is undefeated, himself. Julian finished 2nd at Conference, and won all but one of his other meets this season. He continues to be an exemplary team leader and has emerged as one of the top runners in the state. Great job Julian! Congratulations on a great meet.

Female Athlete of the Week: Bryn Larson, Girls Swimming
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Bryn Larson. Bryn had a fantastic final WSC Conference meet this past Saturday, October 17th! Bryn finished All-Conference in all four of her events. She was 4th in the 200 Free, 50 Free, 100 Butterfly and 3rd in the 100 Breaststroke. Great job Bryn! Congratulations on a great meet!
Male Athlete of the Week: Adam Fournier, Boys Cross Country
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Adam Fournier. Last weekend Adam placed 14th in the West Suburban Gold Conference meet, earning him All-Conference status. Only a sophomore, Adam has consistently been our 2nd runner this year and has improved significantly both during the season and from last year. Adam’s work ethic, positive attitude, and love of running make him a great team leader. Great job Adam! Congratulations on a great meet.

Female Athlete of the Week: Dana Euske. Girls Golf
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Dana Euske. Dana has worked very hard throughout the season and has many highlights. Dana has led the team to the most conference wins in 2 years. She was a medalist in 3 of our conference matches. Dana became all conference finishing 14th in the WSC tournament. This past week at the IHSA Regional Dana shot a 90 and qualified for the IHSA Sectional for the 2nd year in a row. Great job Dana! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week: Charlie Gneiser, Boys Golf
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Charlie Gneiser. On Tuesday, 10/6 The Hornets participated in the IHSA Benet Regional at St. Andrews golf course. The team finished 4th with a score of 342. Charlie shot a 77 and took 3rd place, qualifying for the IHSA Sectional. Great job Charlie! Congratulations on a great week.

Female Athlete of the Week: Samanth Heinking, Girls Tennis
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Samantha Heinking. Captain Samantha Heinking is currently undefeated this season with a record of 7-0. She has primarily played and the 1st and 2nd singles positions. She got stellar wins versus Leyden (2nd singles), Willowbrook (2nd singles), and Morton (1st singles) this week, but her 6-1, 6-4 win versus LT at the 2nd singles position helped the team to a rare overall win against an always tough squad. Male Athlete of the Week: Billy Gneiser, Boys Golf
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Billy Gneiser. Billy shot a 35 on Tuesday helping the Hornets beat Willowbrook 157-167 to improve their conference record to 5-1. On Saturday the Hornets finished in 6th place at the Hinsdale Central Invite. Billy finished in 5th place overall with a score of 76. Great job Billy! Congratulations on a great week.

Female Athlete of the Week: Chase Metcalf, Girls Tennis
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Chase Metcalf. Chase is now 3-0 on the season with wins versus Morton, Addison Trail, and Proviso East. All three wins come at the first singles position, and she is yet to drop a game in any match. Her match this week against Janet Buentrostros from Proviso East was telling of her high level of play. Though injured last season, Buenstrostros was a state qualifier two years ago. Chase’s 6-0, 6-0 win is indicative of the bright future this talented young lady has on the team here at Hinsdale South. Male Athlete of the Week: Quartus Rassi, Boys Cross Country
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Quartus Rassi. Quartus was our pivotal 5th runner in the first 2 meets, victories over conference rivals Leyden and Addison Trail. Quartus has worked hard to become a consistent presence in our varsity lineup, after running well at the end of last season and making the Sectional lineup. Unfortunately Quartus suffered an injury and was unable to run in our last two meets, but has stayed present with the team but is a great teammate and his leadership has been amazing this season.
