Female Athlete of the Week - Ciniya McCray, Girls Track
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Ciniya McCray. At the Hornet’s meet on Friday, February 28th at Glenbard South, Junior Ciniya McCray won the 55M dash in 7.88 seconds and the 200M dash in 28.49. She also broke in to the shot put scene throwing 8.70 meters, placing 3rd. In addition to her performances on the track, Ciniya has established herself as one our team’s leaders and sets a great example for her peers. Great job Cici! Congratulations on a great meet!
Male Athlete of the Week = Tommy Matulis, Boys Swimming
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Tommy Matulis. Tommy finished up an OUTSTANDING high school swimming career this past weekend at the IHSA State Finals at Evanston High School. Tommy finished 14th in the 200 IM and 7th place in the 100 Breaststroke, winning the Consolation Final heat and earning All-State honors!! Tommy broke the Varsity record in the 100 Breaststroke (his own record) with a lifetime best time of :57.44. Congratulations, Tommy!! So proud of you!!!

Female Athlete of the Week - Jaultiana Brown, Girls Bowling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jaultiana Brown. Jaultiana competed with the team at the IHSA State Girls Bowling Tournament and helped the team to an 18th place finish. Jaultiana also qualified as one of the top 30 individuals to move into the finals by bowling an 1133 series averaging a 189. During the 2nd day at state Jaultiana had an impressive stat of picking up 87% of her one pin spares and finished 67th in state. We are so proud of her and we will miss her next year. We wish her the best in her future as she plans to bowl in college! Great job Jaultiana! Congratulations on a great year!
Male Athlete of the Week - Aaron Tims, Boys Basketball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Aaron Tims. Aaron helped clinch an outright conference championship vs. Addison Trail with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Aaron was 8-9 from the field and played dominating defense. His performance helped the Hornets finish conference play with an 11-1 record. Aaron was also named the Western Suburban Gold All Conference Team for the second time in his career. Aaron has been a 3 year starter for the Hornets and has played an important part in both of the schools only outright conference championships in 2018 and 2020. Great job Aaron! Female Athlete of the Week - Girls Varsity Bowling team
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week the Girls Varsity Bowling team. This past Saturday the Girls team took 4th place at the IHSA Sectional and advanced to the IHSA State Finals as a team for the first time since 2013. Male Athlete of the Week - Glen Hogan, Wrestling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Glen Hogan. On Saturday, February 15th Glen took 3rd place in the 170 pound weight class at the IHSA Sectional and advanced to the IHSA Individual State Finals in Champaign! Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Erin Adams. Erin averaged a double double and 2 charges in both games vs. Leyden and Downers Grove South! Male Athlete of the Week - 200 Medley Relay Team
Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week the 200 Medley Relay team. The 200 Medley Relay team of Will Gallagher, Tommy Matulis, Matt Krauz and Andrew Schmid came away as Conference Champions and set a new WSC Gold Conference meet record on Friday at the Conference Championship Meet. Female Athlete of the Week - Jaultiana Brown, Girls Bowling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jaultiana Brown. Jaultiana had an excellent week and led the hornets to several victories. Jaultiana led the Hornets to a victory against Argo with a 542 series. Jaultiana also lead the Hornets to their highest place finish at the Leyden Invitational on February 1, 2020 with a 1216 series. This earned Jaultiana the individual championship of the invite as well. We are excited Jaultiana is peaking at the end of the season and look forward to her future accomplishments! Male Athlete of the Week - Billy Durkin, Boys Basketball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Billy Durkin. On Friday night, Billy led the Hornets to a win in the 1st place WSC battle with Morton. Billy dominated the game from start to finish contributing 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. This win also tied the school record for wins in a season. Billy has now helped lead Hinsdale South basketball teams to 2 of the top 3 season win totals in school history. Great job Billy! Congratulations on a great game!

Female Athlete of the Week - Varsity Danceline Team
Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week the Varsity Danceline Team! Congratulations on winning the 2A IHSA Dance Sectional on Saturday, January 25 at Geneva High School! This is the first Sectional win in Hornet Danceline history. The team advances to IHSA State for the eighth year in a row, being one of six other teams in the state to qualify every year since IHSA Competitive Dance originated in 2013. Great Job and good Luck at State!

Female Athlete of the Week - Catherine Fatigato, Girls Bowling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Catherine Fatigato. Catherine went from a 144.8 average to a 153.1 average just in the last week. She averaged a 167 from last Friday through yesterday in our matches/tournaments. She had her highest series ever 1076 at Fred Green Classic on Saturday, January 18th helping the Hornets take 6th Place out of 22 teams! Great job Catherine! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week - Zakhari Williams, Boys Bowling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Zakhari Williams. Zakhari had a great week leading the team to two victories and a 5th place finish at IHSA Regional. Against Bolingbrook, he shot a 556 series including a 224 game. On Thursday, Zakhari rolled the high series of the year with a 624. His individual games were 172, 226 & 226. Zakhari also advanced to the IHSA Sectional by bowling a 1101 six game series. Great job Zakhari! Congratulations on a great week!

Congratulations to our Athlete of the Ella Linkowski. Ella had a strong performance this weekend at the annual Erin Olmsted invitational at Andrew High School. She finished 4th in the All Around in a very competitive field of gymnasts. Great job Ella! Congratulations on a great meet!
Male Athlete of the Week - James Ruzicka, Boys Basketball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week James Ruzicka. James was voted onto the Jack Tosh All Tournament team by the 32 coaches in the Tournament. James averaged 13 points per game and 5 rebounds per game while helping lead his team to a 4th place finish out of 32 teams. Vs. Providence James was 4 for 4 from the 3 point line and made all eleven of his free throw attempts! Great job James! Congratulations on a great Tournament!

Female Athlete of the Week - Abbey Leban, Girls Bowling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Abbey Leban. The Girls’ Bowling team is off to a great start and one the reasons is the improvement of Junior Abbey Leban. Abbey has worked very hard on her game and has become a leader for our younger bowlers. Last year at our match against Fenton, she shot a 452 series. At the same match this year, she posted a 524 series. Against Sandburg last year, Abbey bowled a 387 series. This year against Sandburg, she posted a 531 series. Three weeks into the season she is averaging 167 compared to 136 last season. We are so proud of her! Great job Abby! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week - Glen Hogan, Wrestling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Glen Hogan. On Saturday, Dec 7th, Glen won the Matozzi Invite in the 170 lb. weight class. He defeated his first wrestler from Tinley Park by way of pin in 2nd period. In the semi-finals, he defeated his Bolingbrook opponent by a major decision of 11-0. In the championship match, Glen won against his opponent from Highland Park by way of pin in the 2nd period. It was a great day of wresting and a great tournament! Great job Glen! Female Athlete of the Week - Jennifer Cleghorn, Girls Bowling
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Jennifer Cleghorn. The Girls’ Bowling team is off to a great start and one the reasons is the improvement of Junior Jennifer Cleghorn. Jennifer has been diligently working on her game and it has made great strides. Last year at our first tournament Jennifer had averaged 147, high game of 172 , 27% of 1 pin spare pickups, and hitting her head pin only 77% of the time. At the same tournament this year Jennifer averaged 171, high game of 208, 70% of 1 pin spare pickups, hitting her head pin 95% of the time, and finishing 34th out of 136 bowlers. Male Athlete of the Week - Daeshawn Amy, Boys Basketball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Daeshawn Amy. His senior leadership led the Hornets to a 4-0 record and Championship at the Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament. Daeshawn’s pressure defense created havoc for the opponents throughout the tournament. He also made six three pointers in the first half vs. Ridgewood. Great job Daeshawn! Female Athlete of the Week - Caraline Custardo, Diving
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Caraline Custardo. Caraline took 6th at the IHSA Sectional and qualified for the IHSA Girls State Swim and Dive Final Meet! Caraline scored an all-time personal best with 413.55. Caraline is the first female diver from Hinsdale South to compete in the State Finals since 1987! Congrats Caraline! Good luck at the State meet!
Athlete of the Week - Special Olympics Basketball Black Team
Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week the Special Olympics Hornets Black team. At the Homewood Flossmoor Unified Basketball Invitational, the team placed 3rd. They were also awarded the Tim Byndum Spirit Award for sportsmanship! The next game was against Lyons Township, where we won 33-25. On Monday, the team played against Glenbard North. Our students noticed that this team was weaker than we were, so they decided to do lots of passing and keep the shooting to a minimum. They also set-up and assisted players who do not normally have the chance to score points. They allowed the team to win by two points, 41-43. The other team had not won a game yet this season, and the coaching staff/players were so excited. This demonstrates the genuine kindness and caring that our Special Olympics Hornets Black team has for not only their own players but for players from other teams! Great Job!

Female Athlete of the Week - Girls Cross Country Team
Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week the Girls Cross Country team! The 2019 Girls Cross Country team became the first TEAM EVER to qualify for the State Meet!! At the Thornridge Sectional meet on Saturday the girls team finished as the 5th qualifying team to compete at the State meet in Peoria this coming Saturday. Freshman, Abby Petersen lead the way for the team with her ALL-SECTIONAL 6th place medal finish. Freshman, Elena Garcia ran an outstanding race to finish 14th. Sophomore Victoria Cius stepped up and had an outstanding race to bring home a finish in 31st place. Freshman, Ava Berg and Sophomore, Olivia Rogers battled the field together and brought home team finishes of 46 and 47th places. Sophomore, Kate Haffner rounded out the team finishers with her 60th place finish to help the Hornets to this 1st ever- TEAM State meet competition. Congrats girls!! Good luck at the State meet!
Male Athlete of the Week - Julian Watson, Boys Cross Country
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Julian Watson. Julian has continued his dominating season by winning the individual championship at both the Regional and Sectional meets after a runner-up finish at Conference. He is the 3rd Sectional champion in school history, joining All-Staters Eddie Slowikowski and Charlie Nodus in this exclusive club. He and senior Nick Beronio will be representing the Hornets this weekend as individual qualifiers for the State Cross Country meet at Detweiller Park in Peoria. Congrats Julian! Female Athlete of the Week - Olivia Rogers, Cross Country
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Olivia Rogers. Olivia brought her “A race” to the IHSA Regional meet at Midlothian Meadows on Saturday. Olivia ran a LIFETIME PERSONAL RECORD race with a 43 second improvement and a time of 21:15. She moved up to help our team by finishing as our 3rd runner and finishing the race in place. The Lady Hornets finished 4th as a team to qualify for the Sectional meet this Saturday at Thornridge High School. Olivia and her teammates are looking for an awesome race at Sectionals to hopefully qualify for the STATE MEET as a team for the 1st time in Hinsdale South School history!! Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Nick Beronio. Nick, a 4-year varsity runner, placed in the top-10 at the IHSA Regional Meet for the 3rd straight year, helping the Hornets qualify for the Sectional Meet. Nick, one of our co-captains, has been a rock in the Hornets’ lineup this year, placing among our top 3 runners in every meet this year. Female Athlete of the Week - Aurora Korfist, Girls Volleyball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Aurora Korfist. Aurora is a hard-working player every day in practice and games. She has done an amazing job of stepping up this year to become the starting setter for the varsity team and to develop her setting skills in the off season. Being a setter is not an easy position and often a thankless job but Aurora is truly the quarterback of our team taking control on and off the court. Last week she had a combined total over 7 games of 65 assists, 36 digs and 7 service aces. Great job Aroura keep up the hard work! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week - Billy Gneiser, Boys Golf
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Billy Gneiser. Billy shot 76 on the first day of the IHSA State Championship and made the cut for the 2nd day, less than 40% of the individuals at the tournament make it to the 2nd day. Billy shot another 76 on the second day, for a two day total of 152 and finished tied for 15th overall. It was a phenomenal performance, the best finish at state for the hornets, since Jim Troy finished 11th in 1996! Billy is only a sophomore and has a very promising future for the hornets! Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Bryn Larson. Bryn had a great week! On Saturday, October 12th Bryn was part of 4 winning relays at the Wheeling Retro Relays! Bryn also won the 50 Free on Thursday against conference rival Downers Grove South. Congrats, Bryn! Congratulations on a great week!
Male Athlete of the Week - Adam Fournier, Cross Country
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Adam Fournier . Adam, a freshman, placed 3rd in the fresh/soph division at the Bremen Invitational last Friday, leading his team to a 2nd place trophy. His 3-mile time of 17:52 in the cold, wind, mud, and rain was bested only by two of our runners in the varsity race. All year, he has been one of our top 7 varsity runners, but has run at the fresh/soph level to help the team. He also earned a medal at the Rock River Invitational in Sterling, Illinois in September, and will look to lead the freshman Hornets at Conference on Saturday before joining the varsity team for the upcoming IHSA State Series races. Female Athlete of the Week - Abby Peterson, Cross Country
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Abby Petersen. Abby has had a good start to her Hornet Cross Country season. Abby ran to a 7th place finish in her first big invitational on the Frosh/Soph level at the Hornet/Red Devil Invite. Abby also earned top medal honors with her 12th place finish at the Peoria-Notre Dame Invite with our team’s first runner to break the 20:00 mark with a finishing time of 19:28.5!! This past Saturday Abby attacked a very muddy Niles West course and came home with a top notch 8th place finish in her first varsity level invitational. Abby has continued to demonstrate her consistence throughout this first half of the season. Best of luck to Abby and the rest of the girls at Conference and then into the post-season races.
Male Athlete of the Week - Julian Watson, Cross Country
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Julian Watson. On Saturday, October 5th Julian placed 9th out of around 300 runners at the Peoria High School Invitational on the state meet course in Peoria. His 3-mile time of 15:36 is in the top 25 All-Time for the school on this course. He has been the Hornets’ top runner at every meet this year and continues to be a great team leader. Female Athlete of the Week - Sydney Huang, Girls Tennis
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Sydney Huang. Sydney has been playing great tennis as of late! Last year as a junior (her first year on tennis), she played 4th doubles on Varsity (which is impressive in and of itself), and this year has risen to the top of the lineup, often playing at the first doubles position. On Thursday of this week she represented the team at the third singles position against conference rival DGS and pulled down a solid 6-3, 6-1 win against a tough opponent. Congrats Sydney on a great week and an awesome senior season so far!
Male Athlete of the Week - Marquez Wesley, Football
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Marquez Wesley. Hinsdale South defeated Downers Grove South 33-28 in a thrilling game to retain the cannon for the 3rd consecutive year. Senior outside linebacker, Marquez Wesley, was a major factor in the victory by intercepting DGS on the first play of the game and later intercepting another pass and returning it for a touchdown. He recorded 6 tackles and was active all game. Great job Marquez! Congratulations on a great game!

Female Athlete of the Week - Sam Pacentine, Girls Volleyball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Sam Pacentine. Sam is a great athlete and has been a vital member of the varsity volleyball team the last two years as the starting libero. Last week during practice, Sam unfortunately sprained her ankle. However, she did not let that stop her from playing in the very competitive Wheaton Classic on Wednesday and Saturday. During the course of 5 matches Sam passed an impressive 2.5 and had 60 digs during the tournament. Sam is a fantastic leader in the gym and always communicating on the court. Great job Sam keep up the hard work! Congratulations on a great week!

Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week James Ruzicka. James excelled in the Hornets homecoming victory over Morton. James is a 2 way player that had the biggest impact on defense with 2 interceptions and 4 tackles from the Safety position. He was named captain of the week for his efforts on and off the field. Female Athlete of the Week - Kaitlyn Hurka, Girls Volleyball
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Kaitlyn Hurka. Last week Kaitlyn put up three amazing performances against two tough opponents and helped varsity breeze to an easy victory against their first conference matchup. Against Waubonsie Valley she had an impressive 9 kills off 13 attempts, 1 solo block and 6 digs. The next night against Proviso East she put up 8 kills off 17 attempts, had 2 solo blocks and 3 digs. The following night she led the team to a great 3 game thriller and victory against Metea Valley with 15 kills, 12 digs and 1 solo block. Great job Kaitlyn keep up the hard work! Male Athlete of the Week - Colin Lyster, Boys Golf
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week, Colin Lyster. On Tuesday, September 10th Colin helped the Hornets beat Addison Trail by a score of 165-188, he came in with a score of 41. On Thursday September 12th Colin shot the low score of the day with a 37. This helped the Hornets win 166 to 254 over Proviso East. Great job Colin! Congratulations on a great week!

Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week, Marquese Garret. On Friday, September 6th The Hornets defeated Proviso West to beat a crossover opponent from the WSC silver. The score was 35-14. Marquese Garret accounted for 5 touchdowns. He ran 3 and threw 2. Great job Marquese! Congratulations on a great game!

Female Athlete of the Week - Dana Euske, Girls Golf
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Dana Euske. Three weeks into the season, Dana posted her personal best score of 41 for a par 36 course at Downers Grove Park District. Dana was the Medalist of the match out of all 16 golfers. Dana has been a solid competitor and the top scorer for the Hinsdale South matches thus far. We are so proud of all the hard work and determination that Dana putts into her game. Dana is only a sophomore and we cannot wait to see all of her accomplishments during her career here at Hinsdale South! Great job Dana! Congratulations on a great week!

Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week, Charlie Gneiser. On Saturday, August 31st The team took 2nd place at the Willowbrook scramble, losing on the 3rd hole of a scorecard playoff. Charlie Gneiser made two huge putts down the stretch to secure a team score of 9 under par! Charlie also shot a 46 during a dual match vs. Downers Grove North on Tuesday. Great job Charlie! Female Athlete of the Week - Charlotte O'Neill, Girls Golf
Congratulations to our Athlete of the Week Charlotte O’Neill. Charlotte had a great performance at the team’s first match vs. Naperville Central. Charlotte led the hornets with the score of 50 which enabled the team to have their best start in five years. This is Charlottes third year on the girls golf team and she has been working very hard in practice and in the off-season to improve her game.
