Varsity The Hornets faced Sandburg High School in the first round of the Regional play at Hinsdale South High School. The Hornets came out fighting but couldn’t quite contain Sandburg’s high powered offense and struggled to get the key hits to score some runs. The final score was 7-0 Sandburg who advanced to play Willowbrook. The Hornets had some unbelievable defensive plays throwing runners out and diving catches in the outfield. Nicole Berger, Sylvannah Batchelor, Erin Leake and Sam Pacentine all had hits on the day. The Hornets had an a great season and should be extremely proud of all the amount they have improved and what they have accomplished this season!
Week of May 13th
Varsity The Hornets had a busy week of conference play due to all of the rainouts the past couple of weeks. The Hornets started the week off by making the trip to conference rival Morton. The Mustangs came out swinging and scored in the first inning. The Hornets struggled offensively to get anything going. The Hornets had two hits on the day led by Sam Pacentine and Megan McGinley.
The Hornets took on the Mustangs from Downers Grove South on Tuesday. The high powered Mustangs offense was on for the day. The Hornets were led by Sam Pacentine and Stephanie Rochowicz offensively. The Hornets look to rebound the next day when they take on the Mustangs at their place. The Hornets played solid defense on Wednesday against Downers Grove South losing 9-0. The Hornets had some outstanding defensive plays. Sam Pacentine went the distance for the Hornets on the mound. The Hornets were able to tally five hits on the day. Emily Corson and Nicole Berger each had two hits on the day. Erin Leake also had a hit.
The Hornets then took on Willowbrook on Thursday and Friday. The Hornets lost game one of the back to back days affair by a score of 4-0. The Hornets tallied 3 hits on the day. Abbey Leban, Nicole Berger, and Sylvannah Batchelor all had hits on the day. The Hornets played solid defense against Willowbrook and are looking to rebound on Friday. The Hornets finished up conference and regular season play on Friday. The Hornets hosted the game but were visitors on the scoreboard. The Hornets came out swinging. They scored 5 runs in the 5th. The game was called in the 6th inning due to rain. The Hornets collected seven hits on the day. Mary Lavorato led the charge with three hits on the day with 3 RBIs. Sklyar Hayes had two hits on the day. Abbey Leban and Erin Leake each collected a hit. Sam Pacentine also tallied an RBI for the Hornets. The Hornets played extremely well but was cut short due to weather. The Hornets will take on Sandburg in their first round Regional game Wednesday at 3:30 at Hinsdale South. .
JV1 On Monday, the JV hornets played the Morton Mustangs for our senior day. The hornets beat the mustangs 22-2 in 3 innings. Senior Julie Calderon played a great defensive game per usual and went 3 for 4 at the plate. Pitcher, Dana Euske, played excellent making 4 of the 9 outs in the game. Lauren Polich went 3 for 4 with two doubles.
Tuesday, the hornets played Downers Grove South, a tough conference competitor. The hornets played a well-rounded defensive game holding the mustangs to only 4 runs in the first couple innings. Lauren Polich played a great defensive game behind the plate blocking balls and keeping runners from advancing. In the end the hornets lost 10-0.
The hornets played DGS again on Wednesday. With the freshmen game being canceled the hornets combined the fresh/soph team with the JV team. Abby Didio pitched a great game despite the mustangs continuous hitting. Dana Eudke came in to relieve Abby in the 3rd inning. Abby Didio laid down a great bunt from the left side for the only hit of the game off the Downers Grove all-star pitcher. The hornets took a tough loss against DGS but prepared for the next couple games against Willowbrook.
On Thursday the hornets had a rough start to the game against Willowbrook. But they battled through the whole game. Alexis Ayala went 3-3 breaking out of her slump. Despite their effort the hornets were defeated by Willowbrook to end the season.
JV2 The Hornets had a strong rematch with Morton this Monday. Alicyn Alexander struck out 4 girls on the mound. Jodi Strenzel-Gibson played hard at first base, leading the Hornets to get many outs. Alicyn Alexander, Stephanie Ogbuehi, Alyssa Valenzuela, and Kara Pearson had impressive fielding, holding Morton had impressive fielding, holding Morton for the first three innings. Kara Pearson, Elli-Strenzel Gibson, Alicyn Alexander, Crystal Herrera, Violet Davis, Aileen Balcazar, and Alyssa Valenzuela had great hits. The Hornets had 10 hits but fell short, losing 22-12.
To finish off the season, the Hornets played Downers Grove South on May 14th. The Hornets put forth their best effort, Stephanie Ogbuehi had the only hit for the team, a deep hit to left field putting a double on the board. The Hornets had a great first inning, with Alyssa Valenzuela, Stephanie Ogbuehi, and Crystal Herrera having great catches. Kara Pearson and Alicyn Alexander had quick feet in the field, getting multiple outs for the Hornets. Downers Grove South had strong bats winning 17-0.
Week of May 6th
Varsity The Hornets had a busy week of softball this past week. We also celebrated our two seniors Jasmine Carlson and Sylvannah Batchelor. As we wish them all the best and successes in the future. The first game of the week was against conference rivals Addison Trail. The Hornets lost the affair 10-6. The Hornets were trialing early and were unable to catch up. The Hornets were able to get on the board in 3rd inning with a single by Sam Pacentine and then sacrifice bunt by Megan McGinley and a single by Nicole Berger. The Hornets offense really exploded in the top of the 7th inning with the Hornets scoring 5 runs falling short to the Trail Blazers. Hinsdale South tallied five runs in the seventh inning. Hinsdale South's offense in the inning came from a triple by Megan McGinley, a single by Abbey Leban, and a double by Jasmine Carlson. Nicole Berger was 2-4 a the plate leading the Hornets in hits for the game. Megan McGinley had 3 RBI’s and one RBI tallied by Abbey Leban.
The Hornets rebounded on Thursday, Senior Day against Proviso East with a score of 15-1. The Hornets celebrated our Seniors prior to the start of the game. Our seniors will be missed but looking forward to the rest of the season with them. The Hornets offense was led by Abbey Leban with five RBIs including a Grand Slam. Stephanie Rochowicz got the win in circle. Hinsdale South tallied ten hits on the day. Megan McGinley Sylvannah Batchelor, and Erin Leake had multiple hits. Leake had 3 RBIs, Batchelor 2 RBIs, and Emily Corson, Mary Lavorato each had RBIs on the day.
The Hornets played in the ICCP tournament in Elmhurst over the rainy weekend. The Hornets were able to get in the winners bracket winning the first game on Friday against Chicago Christian with a score of 5-3. The Hornets were led to victory by Stephanie Rochowicz on the mound and Abbey Leban tallying the save. The Hornets had 12 hits on the day and played outstanding defense. Sam Pacentine, Rochowicz, Jasmine Carlson, and Berger all managed multiple hits for Hinsdale South. Berger, Carlson, Rochowicz, and Pacentine all had two hits to lead Hinsdale South. Rochowicz hit her first homerun as a Hornet. Berger and Rochowicz led the charge with each having 2 RBIs, and Jasmine Carlson tallying one RBI.
The Hornets then faced Aurora Central Catholic on Saturday. The Hornets lost by a score of 10-1. The Hornets were led by Sam Pacentine on offense where she was 2-for-4 at the plate.
The Hornets then took on Trinity in the rain. It was a back and for forth affair against Trinity where the Hornets were in striking distance but fell a bit short 22-21. Hinsdale South fought back after falling down by eight runs in the fifth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 22-21 defeat to Trinity High School on Saturday. Hinsdale South put up eight runs in the comeback that fell short. Sam Pacentine, Megan McGinley, Erin Leake, Jasmine Carlson, Leake, and Carlson picked up RBIs to lead the rally. Abbey Leban drove in four runners in the loss. Leban drove in runs on a groundout in the first, a single in the second, and a single in the fourth. Hinsdale South scored five runs in the seventh inning. Hinsdale South offense in the inning was led by Leake, Carlson, and Mary Lavorato, all driving in runs in the frame. Hinsdale South had ten hits in the game. Leban, Carlson, and Nicole Berger all had multiple hits for Hinsdale South. Leban led Hinsdale South with three hits in four at bats.

JV2 This Wednesday Hornets gained their second win this season in their rematch with Addison Trail. Aileen Balcazar had an amazing game, hitting a triple, double, and a single. Abranet Layne was 4/4, hitting three singles. Stephanie Ogbuehi hit a stellar double to a hole in left field as well as Crystal Herrera, Alicyn Alexander, Jodi Strenzel-Gibson, and Kara Pearson with singles. Violet Davis was strong behind the plate. The girls played hard both in the batting box and in the field, taking home a 19-4 win.
Week of April 29th
Varsity It was a soggy week for the Hornets as they spent the entire week indoors not getting out to play until Friday against conference rival Leyden. The Leyden bats were hot and the Hornets fell 15-5. The Hornets had nine hits on the day led by Nicole Berger who went 3-3 at the plate. Megan McGinley was 2-3, Sam Pacentine 1-3, Stephanie Rochowicz 1-3, Erin Leake 1-3, and Abbey Leban 1-3. The Hornets look to rebound next week with a schedule full of conference games. They start off the week against Willowbrook.
JV Game against Leyden on 5/3 - 14-8 Leyden The hornets battled back and forth against Leyden, losing the game 14-8. Dana Euske had a great game on the mound throwing 9 strike outs. Abby Didio played a great game at shortstop making the first three outs of the inning. The hornets came out strong scoring 3 runs in the first inning. Raneem Issa hit a homerun over the left field fence in the 2nd inning. The outcome was not the desired one but the team played hard through the whole game.
Week of April 22nd
Varsity Hinsdale South was 2-1 for the week with two big conference wins over Addison Trail and Proviso East. The Hornets fell to Morton. The Hornets got off to a great start against the Blazers of Addison Trail with a win 11-4. The Hornets trailed early in the game before battling back to a tie game in the 4th inning. The game was then called on lighting when the game was eventually finished later in the week. The Hornets came out swinging in the bottom of the 5th inning where the offense exploded. Abbey Leban was in the circle for the Hornets earning the win. Sylvannah Batchelor had a key double driving in 2 RBIs with the game tied. The Hornets tallied 12 hits on the day. Erin Leake had three of the hits with 2 RBIs and Jasmine Carlson had three hits driving in 3 runs. Mary Lavorato and Nicole Berger also had two hits on the day.
The Hornets then took on Proviso East and got off to an early led scoring 5 in the first inning. The Hornets offense was led by multiple Hornets for the day: Megan McGinley, Nicole Berger, Jasmine Carlson, Erin Leake, Mary Lavorato, Kaylin Drake and Skylar Hayes. Sam Pacentine earned the victory in the circle. The Hornets then fell to conference rival Morton on Friday by a score of 7-3. Hinsdale South was off to a strong start when Erin Leake singled scoring Nicole Berger. The Hornets had 10 hits on the day led by Leake, Sylvannah Batchelor, Jasmine Carlson, and Nicole Berger. The Hornets look to rebound when they take on the Mustangs from Downers Grove South on Monday.

JV2 4/22 - Hornets put forth a valiant effort at Addison Trail with Alicyn Alexander on the mound, striking out 4 girls. Stephanie Ogbuehi hit 3 for 3 and had a diving catch at 2nd base. Aileen Balcazar started off the first inning with an infield homer. Elli and Jodi Strenzel-Gibson both had strong singles each getting an RBI. Kara Pearson tied up the game with a strong singles Alyssa Valenzuela put down a precise bunt, advancing runners and provided strong base running all game. Unfortunately due to weather, the game was called In the top of the fourth, leaving the Hornets down 8-9. The Hornets are looking forward to facing the Blazers again at home on May 8th.
This Tuesday, April 23rd, the Hornets played a tough game against Glenbard West. Hornets lost 2-12. Jodi Strenzel-Gibson, Stephanie Ogbuehi, Aileen Balcazar, Alyssa Valenzuela, and Violet Davis had great outs while playing the field. Dana Euske, Stephanie Ogbuehi, and Aileen Balcazar had our three hits of the game.
This Wednesday the Hornets gained their first win of the season. The Hornets played hard against Proviso East with smart base running and a keen eye in the batters box. Alicyn Alexander struck out 7 players and was great on the mound. Each player on the Hornets crossed home plate in their strongest game of the season thus far. Aileen Balcazar had a sailing double to center, Violet Davis had two doubles to the outfield, Crystal Herrera had a beautiful hit right down the third base line, and Alicyn Alexander smashed a single to left field. The Hornets came out victorious, winning 17-2.
Hornets had a tough game against Willowbrook this Thursday. Willowbrook had an accurate and versatile pitcher, holding the Hornets in the box. Dana Euske and Alicyn Alexander were strong on the mound, collectively striking out 4 players. Dana Euske had a beautiful double that went under the fence in center field and Alyssa Valenzuela put down a great bunt. Aileen Balczar, Violet Davis, and Alicyn Alexander had great hits, gaining the Hornets 3 runs. The Hornets came up short losing 3-14.
On April 26th, Hornets had a thrilling rally against Morton. The girls were equally matched and played their hearts out. Stephanie Ogbeuhi started off the game with a powerful triple down the left field line. Alyssa Valenzuela had strong base running and quick feet. Violet Davis, Crystal Herrera, Alicyn Alexander, and Kara Pearson had strong singles, running our score up to 6 runs. Morton played hard and started their inning off with a homerun. The outfield had an amazing game with Elli Strenzel-Gibson having an amazing running catch from left field as well as Crystal Herrera and Kara Pearson had speedy back up. Stephanie Ogbuehi, Jodi Strenzel-Gibson, Alyssa Valenzuela, and Aileen Balcazar had a tight infield, holding Morton to 8 runs. Alicyn Alexander and Violet Davis had 6 strike outs. The Hornets played hard the entire game and fell short by two runs, losing 6-8. The Hornets are looking forward to a rematch with Morton on 5/13.
Week of April 15th
Varsity The Hornets started conference play with Leyden after they had been rained out twice against Willowbrook. The Hornets came out strong jumping to a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the 3rd inning. The Hornets got on the board early with a leadoff walk by Sam Pacentine and a sacrifice bunt by Megan McGinley. The Hornets were then able to capitalize and score Sam on Nicole Berger’s shot single. Leyden was able to get their offense going in the bottom of the 3rd inning and the Hornets were not able to capitalize after the 3rd inning offensively. The Hornets look to rebound again Reavis, a sectional opponent.
The Hornets took on Reavis on Friday. The Hornets beat Reavis by a score of 16-12. The Hornets were led by Jasmine Carlson who drove in 4 of the Hornets 16 runs. She went 3-for-4 for the day. The Hornets had 15 hits for the game. Abbey Leban was 5-for-5, Sam Pacentine was 2-for-4. Kaylin Drake delivered a hit and tallying 3 RBIs for the day. With the game tied at 12 Sam grounded out scoring one run in the bottom of the 6th. The Hornets were then able to tally three more runs in the inning to secure the victory. Sam Pacentine got the win for the Hornets in the circle. It was a great come from behind victory. The Hornets hope to keep the ball rolling when they take on conference rival Addison Trail on Monday.
JV 4/17 - Game against Leyden Despite the loss, 16-5, our team played a well-rounded game. Catcher, Lauren Polich played a great game, along with junior, Alexis Ayala.
4/19 - Game against Reavis JV got their first win (14-1) against Reavis! Freshman pitcher, Dana Euske, pitched a great game allowing only 12 at bats. Abby Didio played a good game at shortstop.
Week of April 8th
Varsity As inches of snow fall to end the week. The Hornets were able to get 2 out of 3 games in this week due to weather. The Hornets fell to Lincoln Way West with a score of 12-0. The Hornets were able to collect 5 hits on the day. Sam Pacentine, Stephanie Rochowicz, Megan McGinley, Erin Leake and Abbey Leban all tallied a hit. The Hornets were unable to cash in any of those runs by the sure handed defense of the Warriors.
The Hornets took on Benet on Thursday and loss to the Redwings 11-1. The Hornets had plenty of opportunities but couldn’t capitalize. The Hornets put the ball in play and found ways to get on base. The Hornets made some great defensive plays. Mary Lavorato had a diving stop at short. The Hornets look to rebound and get back on track when they take on Willowbrook to open up conference play on Monday.

JV2 The Hornets had their second game of the season this Tuesday against Lincoln Way East. LWE came into the game with strong bats and quick feet. Hornets avoided the shut out with Dana Euske hitting two singles and having 2 RBIs. Stephanie Ogbuehi had quick feet at second, getting multiple outs. Dana Euske pitched with great accuracy and speed, striking out 10 batters. Hornets came up short, losing 2-20.
This Wednesday the Hornets faced Leyden at home. Hornets played hard but came up short, losing 22-10. The Hornets were smart in the batter’s box and walked in 8 runs. Dana Euske had two hits and Aileen Balcazar had a powerful single. Stephanie Ogbuehi had an amazing diving catch at second as well as Aileen Balcazar playing smart at third.
Week of April 1st
Varsity The Hornets were back in action in Illinois where they opened up against Naperville Central. The Hornets fell short against Naperville Central. The Hornets had plenty of opportunities but couldn’t capitalize. The Hornets were led by Erin Leake going 2 for 2, Sam Pacentine 1-3, and Abbey Leban 1-2. The Hornets plan to rebound against district rivals Hinsdale Central.
The Hornets took on district rival Hinsdale Central Red Devils on Friday. The Hornets wasted no time getting on the board with a led off hit by Sam Pacentine and was moved over to second by Megan McGinley, and then Nicole Berger drove her in to go on top 1-0 in first inning. There were many bright spots as the Hornets had 22 hits on the day. Sam Pacentine went 3-5 scoring 3 times, Stephanie Rochowicz went 3-4, 2 RBI, Megan McGinley 2-6, Erin Leake 4-5, Emily Corson 2-5 RBI, Mary Lavorato 1-5, Abbey Leban went 3-4 with 5 RBIs and Nicole Berger was 3-4, 3 RBIs. Rochowicz took the win for Hinsdale South. She allowed six hits and four runs over five innings, striking out four. Leban threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. The Hornets are looking at keeping the winning streak going with Lincoln Way North, Glenbard West and Benet on the schedule for next week. JV Game on 4/1 against Naperville Central Score: 10-2 Naperville Central win Madison Polich hit a 2 run triple her first at bat.Abby Didio pitched a great game despite the outcome. It was great to see these girls play together for the first time. It will be exciting to see how much they accomplish this season. I see so much potential in this team.
Game on 4/3 against Oak Lawn, Score: 19-16 Oak Lawn win Abby Didio started a great game pitching, Madison Polich came in to relieve her in the 7th inning. Vanessa Ayala had a great game at shortstop, making all 3 outs in the 4th inning. She also went 3 for 3 at the plate with 3 walks. This game was a tough loss going back and forth with Oak Lawn but it was great to see the team fight until the last out.
JV2 The Hornets started their season off against Oak Lawn on Wednesday, April 3rd. Dana Euske, freshman, led the Hornets on the mound, striking out 10 players. Abranet Layne had a great game, starting off the first inning with a 3-run homer. Stephani Ogbuehi and Aileen Balcazar both had strong singles knocking in runs. Hornets put up a fight and scored 9 runs. Oak Lawn arrived and played strong, winning 15-9.
Week of March 25th
Varsity The Hornets were able to finally step foot onto a regular field over Spring Break in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee! The Hornets played a total of six games and gain a lot of game experience. We have so many good memories and a few trying ones too. The Hornets opened up the 2019 season against Grant Community from Illinois. The score of the game was in favor of Grant with a score of 18-1. The Hornets came out of the gates strong going up 1-0. Sam Pacentine reached with a walk, Megan McGinley sacrificed bunted and Nicole Berger drove in Sam with a single.
The Hornets then took on Fairbanks and Brunswick in a double header which took place in the cold rain. The Hornets got their first victory of the season with a 11-3 victory over Fairbanks. Hinsdale South put up five runs in the fourth inning. Nicole Berger, Carlson, Erin Leake, and Abbey Leban each drove in runs during the inning. Stephanie Rochowicz pitched Hinsdale South to victory. She went five and a third innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out two. Leban threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Leban went yard in the first inning. Hinsdale South tallied nine hits in the game. Sam Pacentine, Megan McGinley, and Leban each had multiple hits for Hinsdale South. Leban, McGinley, and Pacentine each managed two hits to lead Hinsdale South. The Hornets lost to Brunswick 5-1, McGinley had two hits in the game.
The next day the Hornets opened up against Jackson. Jackson took an early lead before the Hornets really battled back and came within a run. The Hornets had some incredible defensive catches by Jasmine Carlson and Sam Pacentine. Hinsdale South put up six runs in the second inning. The big inning was thanks to a triple by Erin Leake, a single by Kaylin Drake, a groundout by Jasmine Carlson, by Nicole Berger, and a double by Emily Corson. The Hornets tallied ten hits in the game. Sam Pacentine, Drake, and Megan McGinley each had multiple hits for Hinsdale South. McGinley, Drake, and Pacentine each managed two hits to lead Hinsdale South. The Hornets then took on Tallmadge for the second game of the day. Hinsdale South tallied six hits. Jasmine Carlson and Abbey Leban all managed multiple hits for Hinsdale South. Leban and Carlson each collected two hits to lead Hinsdale South.
For the final game of the trip the squared up against Mogadore. The Hornets were shut out in the game but had many runners left on. Same Pacentine went 1-for-2 for the day. The Hornets look to get on the right track when the take on Naperville Central on Monday.
