Week of May 20th Fresh off the first sectional title in school history, this weekend the boys team competed in the IHSA State Finals. Singles players Joris Bizys and Jacob John went 0-2 after both pulling a tough draw. The doubles team of Zane Bisharat and Tony Lu went 2-2, finishing top 32 and making it to the second day of the state tourney, while the doubles team of Aaron John and Dhruv Vaze went 1-2, dropping a tough third set tiebreaker to miss out on top 32 honors. While Joris and Jacob will be graduating (and their veteran leadership will be missed), both doubles teams return for what is sure to be another historical season.
Week of May 13th This week the boys team took on GBW and HC, two of the top teams in the state. On Monday the boys fell to GBW 1-3. Their win came at the 2nd doubles position behind the play of Vaze and A John. On Tuesday the boys fell to HC 0-4, but the boys played great, particularly at the 1st singles and 1st doubles positions.
On Friday the boys clinched their first IHSA Sectional title in school history. Just before the rain started falling on Saturday, the boys were presented with the championship plaque . Joris Bizys and Jacob John qualified for state in singles, and Tony Lu/ Zane Bisharat and Dhruv Vaze/ Aaron John qualified for state in doubles. The state tournament starts on Thursday.
Week of May 6th This week the boys tennis team squared off against both high schools from Downers Grove. On Tuesday, the boys fell 3-4 to DGS. The Hornets won at first and second singles, and also captured the third doubles spot behind great play from Bronson Hultmark and Billy Durkin.
On Thursday the team took on DGN and prevailed 4-3, with a great win coming at the second doubles position (Dhruv Vaze and Aaron John).
On Friday and Saturday the boys competed in the conference tournament, where for the seventh year in a row all players took home all-conference honors. Joris Bizys captured yet another first singles title. Besides this, junior Will Shen took home 3rd place at the third singles position, marking his varsity conference tournament debut, and the 4th doubles team of Shivam Bhavsar and Jolo Ayala took home 3rd place after a tough loss in the semi-finals. Congrats to DGS on their conference title! This week the boys square off against Glenbard West and Hinsdale Central as they gear up for sectionals on Friday and Saturday. It’s going to be another great week to be a Hornet.
Week of April 29th This was a light week for the Boys’ Tennis Team who only saw three days of match play because of some crazy weather. The team defeated Addison Trail on Wednesday night 7-0, putting them at 5-0 in conference play. On Friday and Saturday the team headed out to Naperville to participate in the NaperValley Invite hosted by Benet, where they took 14th out of 16 teams. The team was without several of their top players, which allowed several JV members to play up in the lineup. Though the Hornets were a bit outmatched at several positions, they played some great tennis and gained some valuable experience as they gear up for the conference tournament this coming weekend. Of note was the doubles team of Zane Bisharat and Bronson Hultmark. Though they went 0-4 on Friday/ Saturday, they had several competitive matches (two losses in tie-breaks), and played awesome!
Week of April 22nd This was a great week for the Hornet tennis team, as the team went 3-1. The Hornets took down conference rivals Willowbrook and Morton, and swept sectional opponent Carl Sandburg 4-0. Despite being a bit short staffed against Willowbrook and winning by the narrow margin of 4-3 (with a tough loss coming at the 1st singles position), the Hornets rallied against Morton and won 7-0. On Thursday night indoors the Hornets won 4-0 against Sandburg, with a big win coming from Jacob John at the first singles position. Wednesday the Hornets fell to Naperville Central 0-7, but played some great tennis against one of the top teams in the state. Next week will be a busy one for the Hornets.
Week of April 15th This was a an up and down week for the Hornets. They got their second conference win after beating Proviso East 7-0, and then took 7th in the Jay Kramer Invite on Saturday hosted by the reigning state champion Hinsdale Central. The first doubles team of Tony Lu and Joris Bizys took 4th place in a strong field, Jacob John (1st singles) took 7th, and freshman Zane Bisharat (2nd singles) took 6th. The boys played great, but at times were pushed beyond their comfort zone against some of the top competition in the state. This will be a busy week for the team, as they have 4 matches over the course of the next five days, and then head to LWE for a 16 team invite.
Week of April 8th This was a great week for Hornet Tennis! The boys started conference play on Tuesday versus Leyden. The Hornets won 5-2 after losing some close matches at the first and third singles positions. Junior Will Shen got his first varsity win of the season down at 4 doubles playing alongside Connor Kaplan.
On Saturday the boys headed to Lockport/ Lincoln-Way Central. Down three of their top six players, the Hornets lost a close one (2-3) to sectional rival Lockport, before winning their next two matches of the day (4-1 v. Lasalle-Peru and 3-2 v. Plainfield East). The doubles team of Bizys and Lu continue to dominate competition and remain undefeated on the season. This week the boys look forward to Proviso East and DGS before competing in the Jay Kramer Invite hosted by Hinsdale Central.
Week of April 1st The Boys’ team went 1-3 this week against some tough competition. They fell to Benet 2-5, with 2 of their losses coming in the third set. Joris Bizys posted a nice win at the first singles position, and the Durkin brothers took care of business down at 4 dubs.
On Wednesday the boys were away versus LT. The highlight of the day was a Hinsdale South first doubles team snatching a win from LT in a 3rd set breaker.
On Saturday we hosted a triangular with IMSA and Glenbard South. Against IMSA, the boys swept the doubles, but they fell against Glenbard South with 4 of 5 matches going the distance. The doubles team of Aaron John and Dhruv Vaze are now 4-0 on the season.
Week of March 25 It was a great start to the season for the Boys’ Tennis team. After losing a tough dual versus Hersey HS 1-4 on Saturday, the boys rebounded against Jacobs with a 3-2 win. Dhruv Vaze and Aaron John went undefeated on the day with some big wins against some top teams. Rookie Zane Bisharat also got his first win of his high school career holding down the second singles position. Meanwhile, the doubles team of Bizys and Lu ripped off a great win versus the Burton brothers from Jacobs. A little cold, but a great start for the team!
