Saturday, March 17, 2018 The Hornet girls' track team finished the indoor season with a record of 26-6 following a third place finish at the WSG indoor meet. The Hornet triple jump squad dominated as Raquel Blumenstein won the conference and Kaitlyn Hurka finished 2nd. Other all conference athletes were Kiki Twardosz, Natalie Axelrod, Patrice Trzupek, and Neha Chinwalla in the 4x800m relay and Rachel Arellano in the shot put.
Thursday, March 1, 2018 The Hornets girl's track team improved their record to 10 wins and 2 loses with wins over Reavis and IMSA on Thursday in Darien. Patrice Trzupek continued to run well winning the 3200m, 1600m, 400m individual races and anchoring the 4x400m relay to first place. Senior stalwarts Rachel Arellano, Raquel Blumenstein, and Kayla Ramos won their events as well. Arellano had a career indoor PR of 38' 9" and is the girls track athlete of the week. A number of new athletes scored their first varsity points this week. Freshman Olivia Dire had a huge PR and took 4th in the mile, while Ranesha Graham scored in the 300 and 400 m run. The Hornets have a busy week hosting a meet on Wednesday and attempting to win the Morton invitational on Saturday.
Friday, February 23, 2018 Hinsdale South Girls' Track stayed hot winning their second meet in a row. Senior Captains Kayla Ramos and Rachel Arellano stayed hot winning the 55m dash and shot put. But it was younger hornets stepping up to salt away the victory. Chinya McCray won the 200m and Patrice Trzupek won the mile and anchored winning 4x400 m relay. Hurdlers Brittany Reynoso and Danai Parker ran well and Ari Wimberley took 4th in shot in her first ever Track meet.
Saturday, February 17, 2018 The Hornets surprised some teams at the Willowbrook invite walking away with a narrow victory over conference rival Morton. Trailing by about 10 points late in the day, the Hornets sprint squad of Kayla Ramos, Andrea, Stirling, and Shell Hampton swept the 200m dash and turned a close loss into a big win for the visitors from Darien. Rachel Arellano, currently ranked 4th in Illinois in the shot put launched a career indoor best throw of 38’ 1” to win the shot put. Additionally, Raquel Blumenstein, is ranked 3rd in Illinois with her big win in the triple jump of 35 feet 11.25 inches. However, this day belonged to seniors Kayla Ramos and Ugonna Nwakudu. Kayla scored 22.5 points winning the 55m, 200m, and anchoring the 4x160m relay to victory, while Ugonna in her first meet scored 15 points placing 2nd in the triple jump, 3rd in the 400m dash, and 6th in the 55m hurdles. Neha Chinwalla also had a good day scoring 10 points with a 3rd in the 1600m run and a 4th in the 800m run. It was the Hornets first invitational win since winning the York invite in February of 2017. The Hornets continue their season with a 3 team meet this Friday at Glenbard South and will be looking to show improvement in the hurdles and 400m dash as they build towards the Morton invitational and West Suburban Championship in March.
Saturday, February 3, 2018 The HSHS girls track team opened the season by finishing third out of four teams at Hinsdale South. Seniors Rachel Arellano, Kayla Ramos, and Raquel Blumenstein were leaders for the Hornets winning the shot put, 55m dash, and triple jump.
