The Hornets had a successful week after starting out with great, hard played games on Monday against York. Although we lost on both levels, JV finished with a score of 3-9 and Varsity was 4-15, our defense looked great and we learned some good lessons. Tuesday was a split for the Hornets against Morton with the JV losing a nail biter 6-7, and Varsity pulling out a win 15-5. Finishing out game play on Wednesday, the Hornets won on both levels against Argo at their pool. Varsity won 6-4 and JV won 7-4, playing their best game of the season to date.
Week of April 9th This was a long week for the Hornets, culminating in a great weekend in St. Louis. On Monday, the Hornets took on the Red Devils in the annual Crosstown Classic games. JV lost 4-9 and Varsity came up short 9-14, letting the offense get away from us. On Friday the varsity team traveled to MICDS in St. Louis for the annual St. Louis tour. The Hornets won their first game against Pattonville 9-3, and lost the second game 2-6 against Clayton, splitting the day. Saturday morning started early with a loss against a very physical Chaminade team 3-10. Three hours later we played Oakville and won 8-1, putting us into the 5th place match. The Hornets lost in overtime 6-7 against Lafayette in a hard fought battle.
Week of April 2nd
This week was a tough one for the Hornets. On Tuesday, the Hornets lost to OPRF in a conference match 2-12 on the varsity level and 3-8 on the JV level. Thursday, the Hornets were on the road for a varsity match against Waubonsie Valley, losing 7-14.
Week of March 19th
The Hornets had a tough week with two losses heading into Spring Break. On Tuesday the Hornets traveled to St. Charles North and despite a lot of hard work, came up short on both levels. Wednesday proved to be a tough battle, with the Hornets losing on the JV level, and then losing by one in overtime on the Varsity level. Up and coming this week is practice throughout Spring Break, followed by trips to both OPRF on Tuesday and Waubonsie Valley on Thursday the week after break. Waubonsie Valley on Thursday will be a VARSITY ONLY game.
Week of March 12th
This past week was as busy as Week 1. On Monday the Hornets had a pair of wins against Shepard on both levels. Thursday, the Varsity men took on Lafayette from St. Louis and played one of the best games they have ever played to come home with a win. On Friday the Hornets traveled to Stagg to take home another pair of wins on both levels against the Chargers. Saturday morning the Hornets started early against Argo in the first game of the Hornet Invitational. The Hornets won against Argo, and then again against Shepard, putting them into a 5-game winning streak and playing for the championship. In the final round, the Hornets lost to Andrew to finish 2nd in the tournament. Next week the Hornets take on St. Charles North on Tuesday and Riverside Brookfield at home on Wednesday.
Week of March 5th
Week One kept the Hornets really busy with Varsity playing 3 games and JV playing 6. The week started Monday with losses against Metea Valley on both levels, followed by a loss on the varsity level and a win for the JV against Homewood-Flossmoor at HF. The varsity had a hard-fought battle, but struggled to convert in the 4th quarter. JV was really excited to come up with the first win of the season! On Thursday, the Hornets had their first Conference matchup with Lyons Township and came up short on both levels. Varsity Hornets did, however, score two more points than last year, earning themselves pizza for dinner next week. On Friday and Saturday, the JV squad turned up with a HUGE 13-12 win over Lincoln-Way West, followed by even bigger wins on Saturday against Lincoln-Way Central and Shepard to WIN the Lincoln-Way West Warrior Warmup tournament. Way to go, Hornets!
