Varsity On Tuesday Hinsdale South welcomed Willowbrook to the hornets nest and had a great match winning in 2 sets. There was some great senior connection being had by Jacob Kuczaty and Zachary Zelenik throughout the match. We want to thank all of the dyc/grade school student athletes that came out to watch!
Thursday the hornets traveled to Riverside Brookfield in a non conference match up. Outside of a few errors being made the varsity squad was able to win a close 2 set match. Some great defense and serve receive from Sophomore Albert Atczylo was key in securing a victory.
JV The Junior Varsity Boys Volleyball team went 1-1 during the week with a loss to Willowbrook and a win over Riverside-Brookfield. The team went 2-3 on Saturday at the Lake Park Tournament, posting wins against Schaumburg and Geneva. The Hornets were led by the great play of Libero Max Noga and outside hitter Jimmy Pacione.
Week of April 9th
Varsity The hornets started off a 3 match week and conference play traveling to Addison trail and lost a close match in 3 sets. There was a lot of exciting moments in this match especially some great kills by right side captain Alan Birtch, but it wasn't enough to win the first conference match of the season.
On Wednesday, Varsity traveled to Fenton to take on the Bison in a non conference match. Sophomore Tony Le stepped in and ran a 5-1 offense setting the entire match. Doing an excellent job, this led the hornets to a 2 set victory.
Thursday closed out the week at home with a great match up against Bolingbrook. Bolingbrook has a tremendous offense, but the hornets never gave them a chance to run it. Great net play by Senior outside Jacob Kucatzy and Junior Outside Nate Dahms led the way to a 2 set win.
JV The JV Boys volleyball team won three in a row against Addison Trail, Fenton and Bollingbrook, before going 1-4 over the weekend at the Barrington Tournament. The team is really starting to come together as a group and play as a team.
Freshman The boys had a very busy week this past week! We had 3 games and a tournament. The boys came out on top against Addison trail and Fenton, bringing home a win for Hinsdale south. On Thursday, we played against Bolingbrook, where we lost in 3 games. We had a tournament Saturday and we fought hard and lost against Deerfield and OPRF, but we came back to win against Schaumburg and Wheeling! I’d like to highlight Fady Saad for stepping up this weekend and playing his best. He was a big asset for us this past week.
Week of April 2nd
Varsity The hornets went into Carl Sandburg on Wednesday and had a hard fought match with a top ranked team in the state. The outcome ended up being a loss in 3 sets but the potential was seen throughout the exciting match. On Thursday Stagg came into Hinsdale South and the hornets had a great rebound game with scores of 25-18 25-17.
The spring fest tournament at Glenbard East presented some challenges for the hornets. Being shorthanded, 2 freshmen and 1 sophomore were called up to come play with the squad and did a tremendous job. With a 3 set win over St Francis the hornets lost to Schaumburg in 2 sets and lost a thriller to Lake Park(30-32 and 16-25), a top ranked team in the state. Following pool play the hornets lost to Downers Grove South and Glenbard North. Andrew Hoch and Jimmy Pacione were two freshmen that saw a lot of playing time this tournament giving them some varsity experience early in their careers.
JV Te JV boys volleyball team went 0-2 in their first week of gameplay. The Hornets are working on gelling together on the court and are improving each day. It should shape up to be a great season!
Freshman The freshmen had their first week of matches this past week! At our first tournament on the 31st, the boys played very well and placed 4th in the tournament. On Wednesday, we played Sandburg and suffered a tough loss, but the boys played well. Thursday we played stagg, and the boys fought hard and took the match to 3 games. We had a tournament Saturday at St Charles North, and we had to switch 4 players to new positions. A lot of the athletes really stepped up to the plate and worked hard with what they could do. They played very well and this will be a great start to the season!
Week of March 26th
Varsity Varsity opened up the season at the Argo tournament beating De la salle, splitting sets with Argo and Shepard and losing to Providence and Oak Lawn. It was a difficult way to start the season with a lot of matches but there was some great volleyball being played. Nathan Dahms was named to the all tournament team.
