Varsity The Hinsdale South Varsity Badminton team had a great week to wrap up out 2018 season. They started the week off with a tough match against Buffalo Grove, York and Lake Park while coming out of the contest with key wins against York and Lake Park. The girls finished off the season securing out 14th straight West Suburban Gold Conference Championship. 14 girls earned All-Conference honors. This victory also marks the 18th time in the last 19 years that the Hornets have won the badminton conference championship. Way to go team on once again securing our legacy!
JV JV started off their week with a strong 14-1 win against Bolingbrook in a dual meet. We then wrapped up their season with a tough 2nd place finish at conference, losing to Willowbrook by 3 points. Danielle Wayman and Keelyn Cranley were first place in number one doubles, Alysiana Martinez and Izzy Perez-Becerra took first in number three doubles, Alexis Bortman and Ingrid Soare took second in number four doubles, and Jannah Booc and Jamilynne Nipperus took second in number five doubles. For singles, Danielle Wayman, Izzy Perez-Becerra, Sydney Huang, and Diana Temelkova were all champions at number one, seven, three and four singles respectively. Brooke Albert, Keelyn Cranley, Nina Pierce and Jannah Booc all placed 2nd at number two, six, eight, and five singles respectively. Erica Cyrus and Miranda Zelazny placed 3rd at number ten and nine singles. Although we didn’t win conference, it was a strong end to our season and everyone played great!

Week of April 16th
Varsity The Hinsdale South Varsity Badminton team had an up and down week last week. The week started off with a tough loss to Hinsdale Central. The girls rebounded on Wednesday with a resounding victory against Downers Grove South and finished the week off with a very respectable 6th place finish at the 16 team ABCD Badminton Invite. The girls now are focused on our Conference Championships at Willowbrook High School on Friday, 4/27.
JV The biggest celebration this week was JV’s 10-5 victory over our district rival, Hinsdale Central. We also finished out our conference meets with an 8-7 victory over Downers Grove South High School. This weekend JV played in a ten team tournament at Lincoln Way West High School. Despite only having one team medal (Ingrid Soare and Alexis Bortman took 2nd in number 3 doubles), the team took 3rd overall! We are ready to get back to practice to prepare for our conference meet!
Freshman The freshman team had a tough start to the week, but turned it around against Downers Grove South to remain undefeated in conference play. The team returned to Hinsdale Central on Saturday ready to leave their mark on the tournament. The team finished second overall with outstanding performances from Sneha Mittal and Tina Kessar (2nd place, 4 Doubles) Samantha Heinking and Eva Galdikatie (2nd place, 3 Doubles), Nola Colakovic and Brigid Rudolph (2nd place, 2 Doubles) and Diana Temelkova (2nd place, 1 Singles).
Week of April 9th
Varsity Another solid week for the Varsity Hinsdale South Badminton team. The team had an awesome “Senior Night” on 4/10 and a solid win against Addison Trail. The girls followed that up with another great win on 4/11 against Morton. On Saturday, 4/14 the team traveled to New Trier High School to participate in the 16 team “Featherfest” with some of the top teams in the state present. The girls finished an awesome 5th place and were led by a 2nd place finish in Third Singles by Bella Hanson, a 2nd place finish in Fourth Singles by Rachel Ng and a 3rd place finish in Third Doubles by Jackie Wojcik and Jenna Deolitsis. Great week girls as we are slowly getting better and better.
JV JV Badminton had two conference victories this week defeating Addison Trail 13-2 and Morton 14-1. We also had an awesome 2nd place team finish at the DGN invitational, where Brooke Albert and Sydney Huang placed 2nd in first and second singles. Danielle Wayman and Keelyn Cranley, Alysiana Martinez and Izzy Perez-Becerra, Ingrid Soare and Alexis Bortman, and Jamilynne Nipperus and Nina Pierce all placed 2nd in doubles numbers one through four respectively. Our only team first place finish was earned by Miranda Zelazny at fourth singles! Way to go JV!
Freshman The freshman team had a great week of conference play beating Addison Trail and Morton 15-0. The team showed great sportsmanship and were complimented by the opposing coaches as being one of the most talented freshman teams they’ve faced this season. The team kept the momentum for Saturday as they hosted a 16 team tournament. Each player made a valuable contribution to the team’s successful second place finish. Congratulations to Sam Heinking and Eva Galdikaite for placing first in the Third Doubles A Bracket.
Week of April 2nd
Varsity The Varsity Hornet Badminton is starting to come together nicely this week. After our spring break, the Varsity Hornet Badminton team put together an impressive 12-3 win over arch rival Willowbrook and then followed that up with a convincing 8-0 win over Oak Lawn and a 7-1 win over Wheaton-Warrenville South. The team ended the busy week finishing in fourth place at the Naperville Central tournament with 26 points. Downers North was team champion with 29 points and the Hornets beat Downers North head to head 5-3! JV JV Badminton’s highlight this week was taking 2nd at our own invitational on Saturday. We placed 2nd as a team, just five points behind Evanston, with many of our girls finishing in the top three. Brooke Albert took 2nd in 1 singles, Jannah Booc took 3rd in 2 singles, Nina Pierce took 3rd in 4 singles, Keelyn Cranley and Danielle Wayman took 1st in 1 doubles, Sydney Huang and Miranda Zelazny took 3rd place in 2 doubles, Ingrid Soare and Alexis Bortman took 2nd place in 3 doubles, and Izzy Perez – Becerra and Alysiana Martinez took 1st in 4 doubles. The team had a tough loss coming back from spring break to Willowbrook, falling 4 – 1. At the Glenbrook South quad, we beat Oak Lawn (5-3) and lost to WWS (3-5) and GBS (2-6). We are looking forward to another week of hard work and hopefully come conference wins against Morton and Addison Trail.
Freshman The Freshman Badminton team did a phenomenal job last week beating conference competitor, Willowbrook 10-5 and only losing 2 matches at the Wheaton Warrenville South quad. At the Glenbard North tournament, competition was neck and neck throughout the day. The team finished second behind York by only two points. Outstanding performances were had by all, but a special recognition goes to Tina Kessar for competing in her first tournament at #4 singles, pushing through a tough last match, and remaining undefeated for the day.
Week of March 19th
Varsity The badminton program in its first month of practice and competition is learning about growing into the team it can be. The girls are learning about the hard work and dedication it takes to be another conference, sectional and state champion. Simin Rajwany and Maggie Schmitz are beginning to hold down the first two singles positions and they are having to play some tough competition as the season progresses. Jenna Deolitsis and Jackie Wojcik are playing some good doubles and Rachel Ng is anchoring another singles spot for the program. The season really heats up the week of 4/2 with tough matches against Willowbrook, Downers North, Naperville Central and Neuqua Vallley. “I’m In”!
JV This week JV began the week with a strong 11-4 victory over Andrew High School and also earned our first conference win against Leyden defeating them 12-3. We wrapped up the week at the Metea Valley Invitational taking third place overall. Brooke Albert had an outstanding performance taking 2nd at number one singles, and freshmen Brigid Rudolph and Jenna McClelland took 2nd place at number three doubles. We are looking forward to a few days off before we hit the court hard again at the end of the week!
Freshman After falling short to Andrew, the freshmen team built momentum for a phenomenal start to conference competition beating Leyden 12-3. That momentum carried over to the second tournament of the season at Carl Sandburg. The Hornets played every match with intensity, sportsmanship, and determination allowing them to leave with a First Place finish. Debra Hopkins and Danielle Droske (#1 Doubles) placed second. Leading the team to victory with first place finishes were: Diana Temelkova (#1 Singles), Nola Colakovic and Andjela Kessar (#3 Doubles), and Samantha Heinking (#3 Singles).
Week of March 12th
JV This week was very busy for JV Badminton. We won matches against Lincoln Way West (7-1), Glenbard South (7-1), Oak Forest (8-0), and HF (7-1). We had tough losses to Fremd(0-15), Lincoln Way Central (3-5) and LT (1-7), but ended the week with a 5th place team finish at the Glenbard West Invitational. Danielle Wayman had the best record in the entire tournament as the A bracket champion in singles. Jannah Booc played number two singles and had a third place finish in the D bracket. Nina Pierce and Jamilynn Nipperus had to play each other in a tough three game match for 5th place in the C bracket. Nina took 5th and Jamilynn took 6th. In doubles Keelyn Cranley and Brooke Albert took 6th having to forfeit their last match due to an injury. Miranda Zelazny and Sydney Huang took 5th place in the C bracket defeating Hinsdale Central in the final round. Erica Cyrus and Alysiana Martinez played in the D bracket for doubles and Ingrid Soare and Alexis Bortman played in the C bracket but did not place.
Freshman The Freshmen Badminton team hit the ground running to start the season. The team went 2-1 at our home and away Quads this week. Although falling short in the dual meet against Fremd, the team’s singles players had strong performances. Congratulations to Debra Hopkins and Danielle Kroske (#2 Doubles) and Eva Galdikaite and Nola Colakovic (#3 Doubles) for placing third at the Deerfield Invitational. More great accomplishments to come next week!
