Week of April 30th This week the guys had sectionals at Lyons Township where Malcolm Moore qualified for the state meet on floor with a 9.25. Anthony Anderson, Tyler Jannenga, and Keenan Stewart all came within half a point of qualifying for the state meet as well. Malcolm hopes to raise his score by 2 tenths of a point and make state finals this year.
Week of April 23rd This week the hornets had our conference invitational in which varsity broke their goal of 120 for the season; scoring 123.7 to take fourth in the conference.
Leading the team was Malcolm Moore who took all conference on Floor and Highbar, and also placed on vault. Anthony Anderson also took all conference on horse and in the all around, and Keenan Stewart took all conference on floor.
The junior varsity finished their season tying for fourth place, freshmen Henry Mihindou and Elijah Lashley each placing in the floor and all around respectively.
Week of April 16th This week we rose another five points to hit a 120.0 on the varsity level in our dual against Willowbrook. Our senior captain, Malcolm Moore, was the leading factor in this increase; his all-around score rising from a 27.3 before his teammates were injured to a 36.5 after our last meet.
Week of April 9th This week we focused on continuing to pull previous JV members into the varsity line up to fill in holes from the previous injuries. While we lost our dual meet against Willowbrook, our team score that week went up from the 105 to a 115 at the Lake Park invite that weekend. Week of April 2nd This week we finished reworking routines from the changes that were made during spring break and continued trying to fill holes left by the injury of our two best all-arounders. We dropped down to a 105 at the varsity invite at Hinsdale Central that Friday because of those injuries; taking 10th place out of 10 teams. Malcolm Moore and Koji Aguilar each stepped up to compete new events in order to support the team.
Week of March 26th This week our team suffered a major setback, losing two of our main competitors to injuries and dropping our team score from a 128.8 to a 107.1 in two days. The varsity team took 7th out of 9 teams at Lake Park because of this drop before starting spring break.
Week of March 12th This week the boys team took more steps in the right direction, shooting up almost five points in team score to come within a point of winning their first dual meet against Leyden last Thursday. Dominic Cassano led the team again, raising his last all around score of 39.7 to a 45.3. The guys have a busy week coming up with a sophomore invite on Monday, another conference dual meet for their senior night on Wednesday, and a Varsity invite at Lake Park on Friday where they will hope to keep increasing their team score and break a 130 this year.
Week of March 5th Due to some minor injuries which temporarily kept three of the seven starting varsity members out of competition last week, the boys gymnastics team finished in 8th place at the Lyons Township invite with a 110.875. Malcom Moore and Dominic Cassano each placed inviduakly; Malcolm taking 6th on floor and Dominic taking 6th and 8th on highbar and in the all-around respectively.
Our next competition is this coming Thursday at home against Lyden at 6pm in the gymnastics balcony where we will be getting most of our varsity members back for competition.
Week of February 26 This week the boys gymnastics team had their first meet against Lake Park and Homewood Flossmore. Dominic Cassano led the team to their first victory on varsity with a total of 123.3 points which is about average for the hornets at this point in the season. The freshmen team also won their meet with a total of 42 points. The boys have been hard at work this weekend hosting the Midwest Open, and will be hard at work again all week preparing for our next varsity invite this coming Friday at Lyons Township High School where we hope to break the 130 mark for team scores.
