Week of January 28th On Tuesday, the Varsity Lady Hornet bowlers competed in the West Suburban Conference John Ryan tournament. The Hornets bowled a 5956 series and finished in 5th place. The team started off strong with a first series of 3060 but really struggled with a 2896 second series, which moved them from 4th to 5th place. Senior Sara Cleghorn, with a season high 1234 series, led the hornets and finished in second place in the Invite. Seniors Sara Cleghorn and Elise Anderson recognized as Academic All Conference bowlers and Senior Cleghorn was recognized as an All Conference bowler with a 169 average in conference matches.
On Saturday, the Hornets bowlers participated in the IHSA Regional tournament hosted by Hinsdale Central at Suburbanite Bowl. The Hornets started strong and bowled consistently all day. They finished with a season high 5211 total pins and finished 3 rd at the Regional. This effort qualified the team to advance to the Sectional Tournament. Junior Jaultiana Brown led the Hornets with a season high 1236 series and finished 2 nd overall individually. Junior Sara Cleghorn shot a 1061 series and Sophomore Jennifer Cleghorn shot a 1015 series.
Week of January 21st Monday, on Martin Luther King Day the JV participated in the Plainfield North Freshmen/Sophomore Invite. The Hornets Bowled consistently. The team started in 14th and finished in 14th! Sophomores Jennifer Cleghorn led the Hornets with a 967 series and Stephani Ogbuehi bowled her season high 6 game series with a 636.
On Wednesday the Hornet Lady Bowlers hosted Argo for their last dual match of the year. The varsity bowlers were able to defeat Argo by a score of 1786-1750 in 2 games. Junior Jaultiana Brown led the Varsity Lady Hornets with a 361 series. The JV Lady Hornets were able to defeat Argo by a score of 1631-1084. Junior Zofia Oles led the JV Lady Hornets with a 337 series. The varsity Lady Hornets improved to 10-4 overall and 5-3 in West Suburban Conference. The JV Lady Hornets improved to 9-4 overall and 4-4 in West Suburban Conference.
On Thursday, the Hornets bowlers participated in the Quigley JV 2 tournament. 6 members of the Hornet Bowling team who had not competed in a tournament we selected to bowl. They were Juniors Sneha Mittal (114), Tyra Jones (127), Eva Neupauerova (146), Vinie Mihindou (125), and Sophomores Kiala Miles (85), and Natalie Krueger (129). Each girl was given a trophy with their high score ( listed above). Eva Neupauerova Led the Hornets with a 410 series.
On Saturday, the Varsity Lady Hornet bowlers competed in the 22 team Leyden Invite. The Hornets got off to a slow start but heated up in the afternoon. The Lady Hornets finished 9th in the field and they were led by Senior Sara Cleghorn with a 1068 followed by Junior Jaultiana Brown 1,042 series. Each girl was given a trophy for any game 200+. Sara Cleghorn 218, 212, Catherine Fatigato 201. Jaultiana Brown 208.
Week of January 14th On Tuesday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers hosted a conference rival, the Downers Grove South Mustangs. The match saw the Warriors bowl strong for 3 games and they were able to defeat the Hornets by a score of 3213-2851. Senior Sara Cleghorn led the Varsity Lady Hornets with a 510 series and Jennifer Cleghorn chipped in with a 504 series. The JV Hornet bowlers were able to put up a strong 3rd game but still fell to the Mustangs 2355-2214. Senior Kayla Mikita led the JV Lady Hornets with a 412 series. The varsity Lady Hornets fell to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in West Suburban Conference. The JV Lady Hornets dropped to 8-3 overall and 4-3 in West Suburban Conference.
On Thursday, the Hornets hosted Morton in a West Suburban Conference match. This was Senior Night for the Hornets as they recognized Seniors Sara Cleghorn, Emily Collins, Elise Anderson and Kayla Mikita. The Varsity Lady Hornets bowled their best match of the year and defeated the Mustangs 2988-2709. Junior Jaultiana Brown led the Varsity Lady Hornets with series of 542 and senior Sara Cleghorn’s also bowled well finishing with a 534 series. The JV Lady Hornets also bowled well but were defeated by the Mustangs 2434-2224. Freshman Dana Euske led the JV Lady Hornets with a season high 470 series. The varsity Lady Hornets improved to 8-4 overall and 5-3 in West Suburban Conference. The JV Lady Hornets fell to 8-4 overall and 4-4 in West Suburban Conference.
On Friday, the Hornets visited Naperville Central in a non-conference match. This is Naperville Centrals 2nd season having a girls bowling team and currently they only have a varsity team. The varsity consisted of 5 bowlers and defeated the Redhawks 2423 – 1655. Sophomore Abbey Leban led the Hornets with a 560 series, high game of the season 210 averaging a 168 17 pins above average. Hornets were also led by sophomore Jennifer Cleghorn with a 3 game series of 545 and almost beating her high game of 219 with a 213. The varsity improved their record to 9 – 4. Looking forward to next week as we prepare for regionals on February 2.
Week of January 7th On Tuesday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers hosted conference foe, the Leyden Eagles. This conference matches saw the Hornets start strong and finish strong and were able to defeat the Eagles by a score of 2628-2241. Senior Sara Cleghorn, with a 486 series, led the Varsity Lady Hornets. The JV Hornet bowlers were able to put up a strong 3rd game and defeated the Eagles 2027-1742. Freshmen Dana Euske led the JV Lady Hornets with a 395 series. The varsity Lady Hornets improved to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in West Suburban Conference. The JV Lady Hornets improved to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in West Suburban Conference.
On Thursday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers hosted conference foe, the Willowbrook Warriors. This match saw the Lady Hornets struggle out of the gate. The Willowbrook Warriors put up some great scores and defeated the Hornets 3217-2583. Junior Jaultiana Brown led the Hornets with a 486 series and Sophomore Catherine Fatigato shot a 485 series. The JV Hornet bowlers were consistent in all three games but were defeated by the Warriors 2355-2163. Senior Kayla Mikita led the JV Lady Hornets with a 408 series and Junior Zofia Oles shot a 402 series. The varsity Lady Hornets dropped to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in West Suburban Conference. The JV Lady Hornets fell to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in West Suburban Conference.
On Friday, the Hornets hosted the 19th annual Ed Puck Hornet 10 Pin Tournament at Brunzwick Zone. This tournament features 6 bowlers from each of the 8 teams invited bowling 6 games in quick succession. The Lady Hornets were able to place 5th and were led by Sophomore Jennifer Cleghorn with a 971 series and Senior Sara Cleghorn with a good 967 series. Sophomore Abbey Leban also bowled her season best 957 series.
On Saturday, the Hornet Lady Varsity Bowlers competed in the Fenton Fred Green Classic Invitational. The Varsity Lady Hornets bowled very consistently all day and were able to finish very strong in the afternoon placing in 11th place out of 24 teams. Junior Jaultiana Brown bowled her highest series of the season, 1,102 pins in the 6 games and finished the tournament in 15th place individually. Sophomore Jennifer Cleghorn also bowled her highest series of the season, 1,052 pins.
Week of December 10th On Tuesday, the Hornet Girls Bowling Team hosted conference foe Downers Grove North High School. The varsity Lady Hornets bowled well and scored their best series of the year and defeated DGN 2806-2332. Junior Sara Cleghorn led the varsity with a 519 series and Sophomore Abbey Leban bowled a 502 series. The JV team was able to lead from the start and defeat DGN 2134-1737. Junior Kennedy Hagen led the JV team with a 472 series. The Varsity Lady Hornets record moved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the West Suburban Conference. The JV Lady Hornets moved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference.
On Thursday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers visited sister school Hinsdale Central. The varsity Lady Hornets started strong and finished with their highest single game and defeated Hinsdale Central 2987-2899. Senior Sara Cleghorn again led the team with an outstanding 565 series. The JV Hornet bowlers were able to finish strong and defeat the Red Devils 2218-2030. Junior Zofia Oles led the JV bowlers with a 407 series. The Varsity Lady Hornets improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in West Suburban Conference and the JV Lady Hornets improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in conference.
On Friday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers hosted nonconference opponent Lemont High School and celebrated Senior Sara Cleghorn’s birthday. The varsity Lady Hornets started quickly and stayed strong to defeat the Indians 2434-2187. Birthday girl Sara Cleghorn led the team with a 533 series and Junior Jaultiana Brown contributed with a 513 series. The JV Hornet bowlers were able to bowl consistently each game and defeated Lemont 1503-1191. Junior Kennedy Hagen led the JV bowlers with a 452 series. The Varsity Lady Hornets improved to 6-2 overall and remained 3-1 in West Suburban Conference and the JV Lady Hornets improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in conference.
On Saturday, the Hornet Lady Varsity and JV Bowlers competed in the West Aurora Blackhawk Invitational. The Varsity Lady Hornets bowled very consistently all day and were able to finish in 3rd place earning their first trophy of the year. Senior Sara Cleghorn led the Hornets with a strong 1097 series and medaling in 4th place individually. Junior Jaultiana Brown also had a great day bowling a 1069 series and earning the 6th place medal. The JV bowlers we also able to remain consistent and had a nice finish in 3rd place also earning their first trophy of the season. Junior Kennedy Hagen led the JV bowlers with a very nice 799 series and a 10th place individual finish and Senior Kayla Mikita bowled a 755 series and finished in 12th place individually.
Week of December 3rd On Monday, the Hornet Girls Bowling Team hosted conference foe York High School. The Lady Hornets started slow in game one, but had strong games 2 and 3. The varsity lost to York 2842-2746. Senior Sara Cleghorn led the varsity with a 540 series. The JV team suffered its first loss of the season losing to York 2502-2244. Junior Kyla Gray led the JV team with a 426 series. The Varsity Lady Hornets record moved to 1-2 and 0-1 in the West Suburban Conference. The JV Lady Hornets moved to 2-1 and 0-1 in conference.
On Tuesday, the Hornets hosted conference opponent Addison Trail High School. The Lady Hornets Bowlers started strong and were able to defeat the Blazers. The Varsity defeated the Blazers 2571-2330. Sophomore Abbey Leban led the varsity bowlers with a 498 series. The JV team also earned the victory 2058-1852. Junior Kennedy Hagen led the JV team with a 405 series. The Varsity Lady Hornets moved to 2-2 and 1-1 in the West Suburban Conference. The JV Lady Hornets moved to 3-1 and 1-1 in conference.
On Thursday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers hosted Bolingbrook High School. This was another non-conference match for the team and the varsity Hornet bowlers were able to pick up their third win by a 2788-2319 score. Sophomore Abbey Leban led the team with a 521 series. The JV Hornet bowlers were also able to get a win as they defeated Bolingbrook 1995-1263. Junior Izabela Dimevska led the JV bowlers with a 443 series. The Varsity Lady Hornets improved to 3-2 and the JV Lady Hornets moved to 4-1.
On Saturday, the Hornet Lady Varsity Bowlers completed in the Plainfield North Strikefest. This is the largest and most prestigious girl’s bowling tournament in Illinois and features 44 of the best teams in the state. The hornets started strong in the morning with Sara Cleghorn bowling a 506 series. The Hornets found themselves in 28th place after the morning session and earned a place in the Bronze Division. The hornets were able to bowl consistently in the afternoon and finished 9th in the Bronze Division. Junior Jaultiana Brown with a 991 series led the hornets followed by Senior Sara Cleghorn with a 984 and Sophomore Jennifer Cleghorn with a 913 series.
Week of November 26th On Wednesday, the Hornet Girl’s Bowling Team hosted Carl Sandburg High School for a non-conference bowling meet. The varsity girls bowled well but ultimately lost to Sandburg 2380-2163. Senior Sara Cleghorn led the team with a 499 series. The Hornet JV bowlers were able to beat the Sandburg JV team by a score of 1957-1784. Freshmen Dana Euske led the JV team with a nice 436 series and Junior Zofia Oles bowled a 423 series. The Varsity moved to 0-1 on the season and the JV improved to 1-0.
On Thursday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers hosted the Fenton Bison at Brunswick Zone Woodridge. This was another non-conference match for the team and the varsity Hornet bowlers were able to pick up their first win by a 2682-2382 score. Junior Jaultiana Brown led the team with a nice 472 series. The JV Hornet bowlers were also able to get a win as they defeated the Bison 1948-1947. Junior Izabela Dimevska led the JV bowlers with a 426 series. The Varsity Lady Hornets improved to 1-1 and the JV Lady Hornets moved to 2-0
On Saturday, the Hornet Lady JV Bowlers completed in the Joliet Central Steelmen JV invite. The hornets featured 3 sophomores and 3 juniors in the tournament. Sophomore Abbey Leban bowled a 832 series to lead the hornets and finished 20th individually. The hornets had a strong finish and were able to finish in 4th place out of 14 teams. It was a tremendous learning experience for the bowlers.
Week of November 19th
Varsity On Saturday, November 24th, the Hornet Lady Bowlers competed in their first tournament of the 2018-2019 season. This was the 22 team Plainfield Central Wildcat Invite. This is an excellent tournament with some of the best teams in Illinois. The Hornets bowled consistently but were not able to put it all together. The team finished in 14th place but showed true potential. The Hornets were paced by Senior Sara Cleghorn with a strong 1127 series which earned her a medal finishing 13th individually and she bowled her high game of 248.
