Varsity The Hornets faced Shephard in the opening rounds of regional play on Wednesday. The Hornets fell a bit short losing 3-0 in a tough fought loss. Sam Pacentine hit a double in the first inning but were unable to get her around. Madison Kern went 2-3 and Kaitlyn Little was 1-3. Madison Kern took the loss striking out 6. The Hornets made some excellent defense plays behind Kern. Unfortunately, the rains came and the game became an official game in the top of the 7th inning with Madison Kern on second, Kaitlyn Little on second and Ellie Fichtelberg up to bat with a 1-2 count and 1 out.
The Hornets had an excellent season and should be extremely proud of all the amount they have improved and what they have accomplished this season!
Week of May 15th
Varsity The Hornets had a busy week finishing up conference play against Proviso East and Morton. Hinsdale South beat Proviso 15-0 with freshmen pitcher Sam Pacentine pitching a no-hitter. Sam also was 2-4 at the plate with an RBI, Gina Marchetti was 2-3, Sylvannah Batchelor was 1-3 with a triple and 2 RBIs, Ellie Fichtelberg was 3-3 with 4 RBIs, Lauren Polich was 2-3 with RBI, Emily Corson was 2-2 with an RBI, Madison Polich was 1-2, BB, and Erin Leake was 2-2 with 4 RBIs.
The Hornets hit the ground running building a 6 run lead against Morton. The Mustangs were able to get back into the game eventually tying the game at six. Hinsdale South was able to recapture the lead when Jasmine Carlson drove in the game winning run. Madison Kern earned the win for Hinsdale South where she struck out 6. Hinsdale was able to collect 16 hits on the day. Marissa Marrera, Sam Pacentine, Ellie Fichtelberg, Donna Stevens, Kaitlyn Little, Allison Early, and Jasmine Carlson each collected multiple hits for Hinsdale South Hornets Varsity. Jasmine Carlson led Hinsdale South Hornets Varsity with four runs batted in. She went 2-for-3 on the day. With a victory against Morton the Hornets were able to capture second place in conference. Week of May 8th
Varsity Hinsdale South had a decent week going 3-2 for the week. The Hornets had a great win beating Leyden 8-1. Hinsdale South scored 5 runs in the fourth inning which was led by a double by Madison Kern, a single by Donna Stevens and a single by Ellie. The Hornets were led by Madison Kern on the mound where she threw seven innings giving up one run, five hits, and striking out four. The Hornets had 15 hits on the day and were led with multiple hits by Sam Pacentine, Ellie Fichtelberg, Kaitlyn Little, and Allison Early. Madison Kern went 4-4 at the plate as she led the team with three RBIs. Hinsdale South was errorless on the field as well.
Hinsdale South defeated Addison Trail 11-0 on Thursday leading the Hornets to a conference victory. Madison Kern led the Hornets on the mound striking out 11. Hinsdale South had 17 hits in the game where Sam Pacentine, Ellie Fichtelberg, Sylvannah Batchelor, Madison Kern, Allison Early, and Jasmine Carlson each collected multiple hits for the Hornets. Ellie Fichtelberg had 3 RBIs and Sylvannah Batchelor had 2 RBIs. The Hornets were errorless for the day.
The Hornets played in the ICCP tournament over the weekend in Elmhurst. The Hornets led off the tournament facing Morrison. The Hornets lost the contest 5-0 where they faced a tough pitcher.
he Hornets started the day on Saturday facing Momence where the Hornets defeated them 5-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning. Momence took the early lead in the game however, the Hornets fought back and scored one run in the bottom of the fourth when Allison Early singled driving in one run. Madison Kern, Allison Early, Ellie Fichtelberg and Sam Pacentine each drove in one run to lead the Hornets to victory. Marissa Marrera pitched three innings surrendering zero runs, one hit and striking out four. Marrera got the win.
The Hornets lost to Aurora Central Catholic 11-1 for the last game of the tournament. The Hornets look to rebound this week from second game Saturday opening up the week with Proviso East, Morton and Downers Grove North. This closes up the week of regular season play where the Hornets start Regional play next week. JV The Hornets started the week with an exciting win over Leyden High School highlighted by multiple contributions from the team in the field and at bat. Tanisha Young ended the game with an over the head catch in left field. The Hornets lost to Fenton and Addison Trail but saw solid play from Diamond Hargrove, Jessica Kaleta, Brooke Steinhaus and Juliana Calderon. The Hornets will be wrapping up their season this week celebrating Senior Day Tuesday vs. Morton. Seniors Jia Bunag and Alyssa Avitia have played in the program for four years. We thank them for their leadership and efforts.
Week of May 1st
Varsity The Hornets have had a great week of softball. We were 3-1 for the week with key conference wins against Willowbrook and Morton. The Hornets started off the week with a bang defeating Morton 14-6. The Hornets had four homeruns in the game with two by Jasmine Carlson, Madison Kern, and Donna Stevens. The Hornets also were led by Marissa Marrera 2-4, 2 DBL,2 RBI, Kern 2-3, HR, DBL, 3 RBI, Donna Stevens 2-3, HR, RBI Kaitlyn Little 2-3, 2 DBL, 2 RBI, Jasmine Carlson 3-4, 2 HR,DBL, 4 RBI, Sam Pacentine 1-4, Ellie Fichtelberg 2-4, DBL, Allison Early 2-4. Kern got the win on the mound striking out 8.
The Hornets didn't fair so well against Downers Grove South losing 8-4, however, they played great. The Hornets were led with a combination of Madison Kern and Marissa Marrera on the mound. The Hornets had solid defense but the Mustangs found some holes to score 8 runs. The Hornets were led by Marissa Marrera who was 2-4, Same Pacentine 2-4, Madison Kern 2-4, 2 HR, Allison Early 1-3, Sylvannah Bachelor 1-3, Ellie Fichtelberg 1-3.
The Hornets rebounded quickly beating Willowbrook 5-1. The Hornets were led by Madison Kern on the mound where she went 10 innings giving up 1 run, four hits, and striking out 15. The Hornets had 14 hits on the day with a 2 run homerun by Jasmine Carlson and a multiple hit day by Kaitlyn Little, Donna Stevens and Allison Early.
The Hornets closed out the week with a 6-4 win against Reavis on Saturday. The Hornets were led by Madison Kern on the mound where struck out 5. The Hornets had 15 hits on the day with multiple hits by Kaitlyn Little, Donna Stevens, Sylvannah Batchelor, Allison Early, and Madison Kern each collected multiple hits for Hinsdale South Hornets Varsity. Allison Early and Donna Stevens each drove in two runs to lead Hinsdale South Hornets Varsity.
JV The Hornets finished the week winless after losing to Downers Grove South, Willowbrook and Reavis. The week was highlighted by Amber Naccarato continues to improve with each outting, Andrea Hrvatin and Julie Calderone continue to get on base as Diamond Hargrove and Jessical Kaleta build on their RBI total. The Hornets play Leyden to start next weeks action.
Week of April 24th
Varsity The Hornets had a busy week playing games. The Hornets fell to Naperville Central 6-3 where it was a back and forth affair. The Hornets scored three runs in the fourth inning with was led by Sam Pacentine and Marissa Marrera. Marissa Marrera was 2-4 for the day at the plate. The Hornets then took on conference rival Addison Trail where they jumped out to an early lead and the Hornets were never able to recover. The Hornets fell to AT by a score of 10-6. The Hornets collected 12 hits on the day but could not capitalize on all of them. Sam Pacentine was 2-3, RBI, Donna Stevens 2-4, RBI, Jasmine Carlson 1-3, RBI, Allison Early 2-3, DBL, Madison Kern 2-4, 2 DBL, RBI, Kaitlyn Little 2-4, HR, 2 RBI. The Hornets were able to rebound for the week with a conference win versus Proviso East. The Hornets were able to jump out to an early lead led by Marissa Marrera on the mound and Sam Pacentine where both had a no-hitter. The final score was 16-0 for the Hornets. The Hornets ended the week with a cold and rainy contest against Wheaton Warrenville South where the Hornets did not fare well.
JV The JV team lost to Naperville Central 15-25. The Hornets broke out with a 10 run 3rd inning with hits from Grace Workman, Juliana Calderon, Amber Naccarato and Diamond Hargrove. The Hornets followed up their hot hitting with a win over Addison Trail 21-15. Late game heroics by Jessical Kaleta, Andrea Hrvatin and Brooke Steinhaus helped lead the Hornets to an excting win. The week ended with a double header loss to Wheaton Warrenville South 0-25 and 1-19.
Week of April 17th
Varsity The Hornets were 1-2 for the week. The Hornets lost to Downers Grove South 10-0, they were met with tough pitching. The Hornets played well but fell short. Madison Kern had one hit on the day and Emily Corson was 1-1. The Hornets rebounded against Willowbrook 3-2 in 10 innings. The Hornets out hit Willowbrook 10-4 with Ellie Fitchelberg 2-4, Madison Kern 1-4, Donna Stevens 1-4, Kaitlyn Little 2-4, Jasmine Carlson 1-3, BB. Allison Early was 2-4 with 2 RBIs and Erin Leake scored the winning run in dramatic fashion. The Hornets were led by Madison Kern on the mound with 9 strikeouts. Kern was surrounded by a strong defense. The Hornets ended the week with a loss against Leyden 6-2. The Hornets were led by Kern on the mound. The Hornets were led by Marissa Marrera 1-4, Ellie Fichtelberg BB, Madison Kern 1-4, RBI, Donna Stevens 1-4, Kaitlyn Little 1-2, BB, Allison Early 2-3, and Sam Pacentine 1-3. The Hornets looks to rebound this week against Naperville Central, Addison Trail, and Proviso East.
JV The Hornets lost to Downers Grove South, Willowbrook and Leyden this week. Our pitching, defense and overall level of play is improving with each game. Amber Naccarato, Elise Calderon and Brooke Steinhaus have all started pitching and showing great promise.
Week of April 10th
Varsity The Hornets battled this week as they took on Oak Park River Forest, Glenbard West and Benet Academy. The Hornets were trailing the entire game but battled back to tie the game sending it into extra innings before giving up the game winning run due to an error. The Hornets had some key hits by Madison Kern who had a bases loaded double clearing the bases and a game go ahead homerun by Donna Stevens. Donna Stevens was 2-4, HR, 2 RBIs, Erin Leake 2-5, Triple, RBI, Madison Kern 3-4, 4 RBI, Ellie Fichtelberg 2-4, Jasmine Carlson 1-3, Marissa Marrera 1-4, Madison Polich 1-3. The Hornets were led by Marrera on the mound who had a solid pitching performance.
The Hornets also took on Benet Academy where they were trailing to Benet and were able to chip away before just falling short 5-6. The Hornets were led by Marissa Marrera on the mound and eventually having Sam Pacentine come into relief giving up no runs. Some of the key offensive stats were Madison Kern 1-3, DBL, BB, Kaitlyn Little 2-3, 3 RBI, Donna Stevens 1-3, BB, Marissa Marrera 1-3, Gina Marchetti 2-2, RBI. The Hornets start conference play next week opening up with Downers Grove South.
JV Amber Naccarato, Diamond Hargrove and Juliana Calderon all lead South with hits while Tanisha Young had a great defensive play vs. Glenbard West. The Hornets lost 0-13. As the weather begins to clear the JV team is looking forward to games with Downers Grove South and Willowbrook.
Week of April 3rd
Varsity The Hornets were not so lucky coming back to Illinois to play! This was a week filled with rain and lots of cold weather. The hornets didn’t let that stop them. The Hornets did not fare so well against Hinsdale Central where they were defeated 11-5. With Madison Kern on the mound the Hornets came out with a bang but were quickly halted by the Red Devils. The Hornets were led by Madison Kern who was 3-4, RBI, Katilyn Little 2-4, HR, 3 RBI, Sam Pacentine RBI, Erin Leake 1-2. The Hornets hope to rebound next week with games on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
JV The JV team lost to Hinsdale Central 6 to 14. Hornets were lead by Elisa Calderone and Grace Workman. Hornets lost to Lemont on Saturday 4 to 17. Diamond Hargrvoe and Elisa Calderone both had hits to help the Hornets.
Week of March 27th
Varsity The Hinsdale South Hornets left for Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to play six games at the Ripken Experience ball fields. The team started off the trip with a win versus Conneaut Area Schools that ended in dramatic fashion. The Hornets won the game 6-5 in the bottom of the 7th inning. The team was led by Madison Kern, who anchored the mound surrounded by solid defense. There were some outstanding defensive plays by Marissa Marrera at shortstop, Ellie Fitchelberg at second, Donna Stevens at third and Kaitlyn Little at first. The Hornets were able to string a total of 8 hits together, two of which were by Madison Kern. In the bottom of the 7th inning, Jasmine Carlson hit a ground ball, scoring Madison Kern who had Gina Marchetti courtesy running, to score the game winning run.
The Hornets then took on Fairbanks where they were able to cap off the first day with another win. The Hornets beat Fairbanks by a score of 8-6. Marissa Marrera took the mound in the second game, capturing her first win of the season. The Hornets had 10 hits on the day with Ellie Fitchelberg going 2-4, Jasmine Carlson 2-3, Sam Pacentine 1-4, Madison Kern 1-4, Lauren Polich 1-4, and Marissa Marrera 1-3. Donna Stevens was 1-3 with a triple and 2 RBI’s. Madison Kern led the team with 3 RBI’s for the game. The Hornets came out winning two for the day!!!
The Hinsdale South Hornets didn’t fare so well in day two of spring training games. The Hornets took on Shawnee High School and lost with a score of 13-3 in game one. They lost the second game of the day to Westerville North by a score of 14-0. The Hornets bats fell silent in both games.
The Hornets' bats rebounded the next day. They won in a back-and-forth game against Tippecanoe by a score of 7-3. The game was tied at two with the Hornets batting in the top of the fourth, when Ellie Fichtelberg homered off of K Runyon, driving in two runs. Donna Stevens also tallied 4 hits on the day. Jasmine Carlson was 1-3, Madison Kern was 2-4, Sam Pacentine was 1-3, Kaitlyn Little was 2-4, Marissa Marrera 1-4, and Lauren Polich was 1-4.
The Hornets capped off the trip with a 9-1 loss against Polk County. The Hornets scored 1 run in the first but could not hold back the offense of Polk County. The trip was a lot of fun and everyone had a great time. The team had the opportunity to go watch the University of Tennessee softball team win a double header against Liberty University. They also did a short hike in the Smokey Mountains and got to see some amazing views before heading to Gatlinburg for some dinner and ice-cream. The Hornets will take on Naperville Central on Monday at Hinsdale South.
Week of March 20th
Varsity The Hinsdale South Hornets softball team opened up their season against the Richards Bulldogs. Unfortunately, the Hornets did not come out on top for their first contest. The final score was 6-2. The Hornets were led by Madison Kern on the mound and Allison Early behind the plate. The Hornets had 8 hits on the day, but were missing that key hit to send the runners home. Madison Kern took the loss but had a strong first outing, striking out six.
JV The JV Softball team started the season off with a loss vs. Richards losing 19-1. South was led by solid performances by Julia Calderone, Tanisha Young and Amber Naccarato. The Freshman lost their first game 26-1. Julia Calderone again lead the Hornets with solid defense.
