Week of May 8th What a week for the Hornets! On Tuesday the Hornets won the Sectional Play-In game against Waubonsie Valley 14-11. James Kiwiet capped off the season with a whopper 11 out of the Hornets’ 14 goals. On Thursday, Hornets played last year’s state champs Naperville Central. Final score was 7-19 Naperville Central, but the Hornets did not go down without a fight. James Kiwiet came out with the Hornets’ first score of the game to lead the Redhawks. Kiwiet had a hat trick, with goals by Patrick Savage, Tommy Matulis, Cullen Gordon and Sam Nilles to finish out the season. Hornets’ finished the season 12-17, the second best in Hinsdale South’s history.
Week of May 1st This week the Hornets finished 5th in the Conference tournament with a loss against Oak Park-River Forest 10-11, and then a win against Morton 14-8. Next week the Hornets host Waubonsie Valley in the Sectional Play-In game on Tuesday at 5pm.
Week of April 24th
This week was a special and emotional week. Following a win against St. Charles East 11-10, the Hornets lost to Lockport 9-14. Thursday was our Senior night game against Von Steuben, and the Hornets came up with a big win 17-13. It was an emotional night for the Seniors and Coaches as we wished them luck as they head into the final weeks of their high school careers. Best of luck to Justin Baron, Maciek Chmielewski, Mikey Corson, Matt Delgado, Jack Glimco, Cullen Gordon, James Kiwiet, Jack Kurowski, Christian Lopez, Chris Pacella, Harley Segal and Michael Velasquez.
Week of April 17th
This week was busy; the Hornets started out the week with a 6-13 loss to York and followed up with a win against Morton 12-9. It was Prom weekend, so while the seniors headed downtown to Navy Pier, the team headed out to St. Louis for the Lafayette Invitational. We finished 6th overall, with a 1-4 record for the tournament. 5 games in 24 hours was a lot for a young team, but they played great defense and walked away with dignity on a great weekend.
Week of April 10th
The Hornets had a hard week of solid games. The Hornets suffered a loss Monday to Hinsdale Central 9-13. The Hornets battled hard for 3 periods, but could not convert in the fourth. On Tuesday, the Hornets faced off against Top 20 team Carl Sandburg. While they held the Eagles to 2-8 through 2 periods, the experience of the Eagles piled up on the Hornets and they lost 2-18. Next week the Hornets face Top 10 team York on Monday, Morton on Tuesday, and then the Hornets travel down to St. Louis for the Lafayette Invite-playing five matches over the course of 2 days.
Week of April 3rd
Last week the Hornets took on OPRF in our 2nd Conference game of the season. Despite our best efforts, the Hornets lost in overtime 10-11. On Thursday the Hornets rallied with a win against Waubonsue Valley 8-6. Up and coming this week is Hinsdale Central and Sandburg; two potentially great games.
Week of March 20th
This past week the Hornets suffered a really close loss to St. Charles North 9-10. Big plays were made by senior Cullen Gordon, and the team’s defensive play was outstanding. On Wednesday, the Hornets came back to win a great game against Riverside-Brookfield 6-5. While the score was close, the Hornets controlled the game the entire way, with great defense again, and a patient offense. Next week, returning from break, the Hornets will face conference opponent OPRF on Tuesday, and then Waubonsie Valley on Thursday.
Week of March 13th
This week was met with ups and downs for the Hornets. On Monday, the Hornets faced off against Shepard High School and came home with an 11-6 victory. Following a win against Lafayette-St. Louis (13-11) on Thursday, the Hornets lost a hard-fought battle to Stagg 13-16. Back at 8am the next morning for the first game of the Hornet Shootout, the Hornets lost to Chaminade-St. Louis 6-8 in a physical game. Hinsdale South came back in the second game against Morton, winning 9-0. The Hornets won their 3rd game against Shepard (12-5), taking home a 3rd place trophy and finishing out a long week of physical games.
Week of March 6th
The Hornets started out with a big week full of games in Week 1 of the 2017 season. We lost to Metea Valley on Monday (7-20) and again to Homewood-Flossmoor on Tuesday. On Thursday, we lost to number 4 ranked Lyons Township (4-19). The JV team lost both games, but rallied over the weekend to finish 2-1 in the LincolnWay West tournament by beating Shepard and LincolnWay West. Next week The Hornets face off against Shepard, Lafayette (STL), Stagg, and finish out the week with our Hornet Invite.
