Varsity This week the Varsity went into playoffs vs Oswego East and was well prepared. The Hornets beat Oswego East in fine fashion with a huge match from Jonathan Vaci and a well ran offense from Zach Zelenik. In the Regional Semifinal the Hornets took on Downers Grove North who was the #2 seed in the sectional. In what was one of the best first sets of the season, the Hornets lost a very tight game and ended up losing in 2 to a veteran team to end the season.
Week of May 15th
Varsity The Hornets celebrated senior night against Downers Grove North and celebrated the 9 seniors last home match but fell short and lost in 2 games.
Week of May 8th
Varsity The Hornets started the week off with a match against Proviso West with some great performances by Dillon Tameling and Ryan Pellegrini. The weekend brought the Richards tournament where the squad finished in 6th place with wins over Stagg and Shepard. Congratulations to Sophmore Nathan Dahms who was named to the all tournament team.
JV The JV Boys volleyball team defeated Proviso East last Thursday 25-8, 25-12. The win was a team effort that was led by great play of Kevin Hamilton.
Week of May 1st
Varsity The varsity squad had a thrilling week with a great conference win over Leyden in 3 sets to start it off. Following that was one of the most exciting matches of the year but a loss in 3 sets to Hinsdale Central. Strong net play by John Vaci and Tyler Gaytan made it thrilling. The Hornets also received their playoff assignment where they will play Oswego East at Downers Grove North on May 22nd. JV The JV boys volleyball team was 0-2 for the week. They lost to Leyden 10-25, 12-25, and lost a close game to Hinsdale Central 18-25, 23-25. Although they lost to Central, it was one of the team's top games of the season. The boys played really well.
Freshman Things have been picking up for the Freshmen boys’ volleyball team. We suffered a loss against Leyden. However, we had a victorious match against rivals Hinsdale Central. Team work and confidence followed the boys into the weekend with a 2nd Place standing in the Elk Grove tournament on Saturday! Our middles Harsch Chokshi, Spencer Staak and Thomas Ramonas have been essential to our victories and efforts this season.
Week of April 24th
Varsity The Varsity squad started off the week with a great win in 2 at Morton with some excellent play from middle John Vaci. On Wednesday, Lyons Township came in and played a very controlled match and beat the Hornets in 2 sets. The week closed with a close match against York, where the Hornets lost in 2 hard fought sets.
JV The JV boys volleyball team lost to Morton, Lyons, and York last week before going 3-2 at the Leyden tournament last Saturday! Kevin Hamilton and Mark Euske both had a great tournament.
Freshman The freshman boy’s volleyball team had a tough week losing to Morton, LT and York. We played a quad on LT and came back to win against WIllowbrook, which was a great match. They did lose to LT and OPRF. The boys are ready for some much needed rest and an exciting week of games. Michael Bochenek has played outside, serving specialist and has been a setter for us. I would like to recognize Michael for being so flexible and willing to adapt to any situation.
Week of April 17th
Varsity It was a tough week for the Varsity squad. On Tuesday the Hornets lost a very close match with Downers Grove South to begin the week but bounced back with a great win over Riverside Brookfield on Thursday. The weekend brought the Downers Grove South Mustang invite where the Hornets a bit shorthanded went 1-4 finishing 16th out of 24. It was a great learning experience for this group as they played with quite a bit of diversity. Alan Birtch stepped up big and had a great tournament running the offense in several tough situations.
JV The JV Boys Volleyball team lost to DGS and Riverside Brookfield last week and went 1-4 in the Lake Park Tournament, losing a heartbreaker to Warren, 25-27, 21-25, and also losing to Schaumburg, St. Francis, and Lake Park. The Hornets did come away with a win against South Elgin, beating them 25-14, 25-27, 15-8.
Freshman Last week freshmen boys volleyball loss to DGS and won against Riverside Brookfield. The team is working on communication and teamwork. We’d like to highlight our Libero Max Noga who is always a consistent player on our team. We look towards Max to be a leader and take control on the court. The Freshmen are ready to take on three matches this week.
Week of April 10th
Varsity Varsity had a packed week with games against Willowbrook , Fenton, and Reavis. The Hornets went 2-1 with wins over Willowbrook and Fenton. Strong net play from John Vaci and JR Rickett set the pace for a solid week.
JV 4/11 Lost to Willowbrook 14-25, 22-25 4/12 Beat Fenton 25-15, 31-29 4/13 Beat Reavis 25-21, 22-25, 26-24
Barringtnon Tourney Lost to Mundelin 20-25, 8-25 Lost to Barrington 20-25, 19-25 Beat South Elgin 25-20, 19-25, 15-8 Lost to Lincoln-Way Central 22-25, 19-25 Beat Lake Zurich 26-24, 25-23
The JV Volleyball team now has a record of 5-6. We went 2-3 in the Barrington Tournament and were very competitive the whole day, minus one game vs Mundelin. The boys are learning to play as a team and communicate with each other on the court.
Freshman The freshmen boys volleyball team had a long week. They played 3 matches starting off with a loss against Willowbrook and turning around with two wins against Fenton and Reavis. The boys played in a tournament at South Elgin placing 7th out of 8 teams. The boys are ready to play two matches this week and take on DGS and RB at home! I want to highlight one of our outsides Owen. He has come very far skill wise and he is always upbeat on the court.
Week of April 3rd
Varsity Varsity started the week off a little slow against a talented Addison Trail team but rebounded quickly on Thursday with a great win at Stagg 25-20, 25-18. The Hornets played short handed this weekend in the Spring Fest tournament hosted by Glenbard East. In one of the best matches of the season the hornets lost in 3 to West Aurora followed by a loss to Downers Grove South. The day ended with a win against Lake Forest in 3, a loss to Wheeling in 2, and a win against Schaumburg in 2. Very strong play by captain Libero Carl Rassi and Sophomore outside Nathan Dhams.
JV JV boys volleyball lost two close games this week. 20-25, 24-26 to Addison Trail and 20-25, 19-25 to Stagg.
Freshman Last week, the boys lost to Stagg High School and Addison Trail. Both matches were tough and they learned a lot. The team placed 7th out of 12 teams on Saturday in the St. Charles North tournament. Their skills and level of play are improving every day. I want high light our captains Milan and Brandon for taking on that responsibility. We’re ready for a busy week with 3 matches and another tournament this Saturday.
Week of March 27th
Varsity The Hornets were down a few players at the Argo Invite this past weekend but managed to go 2-2 with wins over St. Laurance and Reavis. A tough loss in 3 to Stagg and a close loss to Richards gave the squad a great learning experience. Carl Rassi lead the serve receive throughout the day and did an excellent job guiding some of the younger players that received playing time like Nathan Dahms and Albert Atczylo.
Freshman We placed 7th in the Prospect tournament this past weekend. The players did very well for their first time playing any matches. They fought hard playing 3 sets for 4 of the 5 matches. We are looking forward to practicing this week in order to work out all the “kinks.” I want to highlight our Setter Tony LE who did a wonderful job in his position all day. Ton played a 5-1 which is exhausting. He did very well and proved to be a leader on the court. We are looking forward to watching Tony grow in this position.
Week of March 20th
Varsity The Hornets started off the season with a dominant performance over Lemont. With scores of 25-6 and 25-6 Hinsdale South kept Lemont out of system most of the match. A very strong showing for senior John Vaci with several blocks in the middle. JV .Hinsdale South Boys JV Volleyball team defeated Lemont 25-23, 25-21 to start the season 1-0. The win was a team effort, that was led by Junior Middle Hitter, Kevin Hamilton and Sophmore Outside Hitter, Eddy Hyland.
