Week of May 22nd What a great state tournament for the Hornets! Sophomore Joris Bizys went 1-2 in singles, and the doubles team of Sambare and Alex went 4-2, finishing in 7th place, and making them the first all-state doubles team in Hinsdale South history and leading the way to a 14th place finish. Sambare and Alex lost a tight three setter in the quarterfinals, and then rebounded with a nice win versus a tough Glenbrook North, before making their exit to a talented New Trier team. Peter is heading to Augustana next year, and Sambare will be back to lead the team along with Bizys and others to defend the conference title.
Week of May 15th This week the Hornets worked in preparation for one of the hardest sectionals in the state of Illinois. Ultimately, Joris Bizys (singles), Peter Alex (Doubles), and Namit Sambare (doubles) qualified for state after taking third place each. Nikhil Karavattuveetil, Jason John, and Josh Eisenschenk just missed out on qualifying, with the doubles team of John and Eisenschenk dropping a heartbreaking third set tiebreaker. The Hornets finished in 3rd place behind Hinsdale Central and Lyons Township, but finished ahead of area greats of DGS, DGN, and York.
Week of May 8th This week started off with the boys traveling up to Highland Park, where they took on one of the top teams in the state. They ultimately fell 2-6, but had some great wins at the 2nd doubles (Joris Bizys and Amrit Selvaraj) and 3rd singles positions (Jacob John). The rest of the week they worked in preparation for the conference tournament, where they ultimately beat DGS 5-2 and captured the conference title outright for the first time in 12 years (and on their home courts!). The team was anchored by senior captain Peter Alex took first place at the first singles position and clinched the victory for the Hornets. Also of note was the stellar play of Shiv Pate (12) and Tony Lu (9), who fought their way to a three set victory at the fourth doubles position as the last match on court.
Week of May 1st What a great week for Hornet Tennis! The boys defeated Leyden and Downers Grove North both 7-0 this week, before competing in the NaperValley Invite this weekend hosted by Benet Academy. After finishing in third place last year, this year the Hornets captured the championship, finishing ahead of Naperville North, Benet, Loyola Academy, and Edwardsville. The team finished 7th/8th in 1st singles, 1st in 2nd singles, 6th in 1st doubles, 1st in second doubles, and 2nd in third doubles. This week the Hornets take on Highland Park early in the week before hosting conference this weekend. Should be fun!
Week of April 24th What a grind of a week for the Boys’ Tennis team. They defeated conference opponents Morton and Addison Trail 7-0 in their continued pursuit of a conference championship. They traveled up to Winnetka Thursday night to play New Trier under the lights. They lost 1-4, but put up some impressive results against the defending state champion. They then competed in the 32 team Pitchford Invite, which hosts the strongest teams in the state. The Hornets posted an impressive 9-8 record as a team. This week the boys take on DGN, Leyden, and head to the NaperValley 16 Team Invite this Friday/ Saturday.
Week of April 17th This was a whirlwind week for the Hornets! They started the week with a 3-4 loss to a talented and deep Lyon’s Township team, but played some great tennis. The next night they lost to dgs, but regained control of the conference with a win over Willowbrook on Thursday. On Saturday they participated in one of the hardest invites (Jay Kramer Invite hosted by Hinsdale Central) the season has to offer, and took 3rd out of 8 teams. The boys continue conference play this week with matches versus Morton and Addison Trail, and a dual against reigning state champions New Trier, before heading to the Pitchford Invitational this coming weekend.
Week of April 10th This week the Boys Tennis team faced off against Hinsdale Central in what has become a favorite dual of the season. The Hornets fell 1-6, but had some success against a tough Devil squad, getting the win at the 3rd doubles position and playing competitive tennis on all courts. On Thursday the Hornets started conference play, where they took on Proviso East, getting the win 7-0. A huge week looms for the Hornets as they take on LT, DGS, and Willowbrook, before heading to the Jay Kramer Invite, which has some of the toughest competition in the state. Should be a fun week!
Week of March 27th This week the boys’ tennis team traveled to Edwardsville, IL where they participated in the Tiger Invitational. They placed 4th out of 16 teams, after beating O’Fallon 4-1 and Dunlap 3-2, and before falling to St. Xavier 0-5 and U-High 1-4. This weekend marked another excellent performance from the Hornets as they look to solidify a lineup heading into tough sectional competitors of LT and Hinsdale Central. The doubles team of Namit Sambare and Jason John went undefeated, and the doubles team of Jacob John and Nikhil Karavattuveetil pulled out a match versus Dunlap at the third doubles position, helping the team clinch the win to progress to the semis. The weather may look questionable this week, but the Hornets desire to improve each and every time they step out on court, is anything but. Back to the grind.
Week of March 20th This weekend the boys competed at the DecoTurf Team Tennis National Championships. They arrived in Chattanooga, Tennessee Thursday night after traveling down with their brothers from Hinsdale Central. Over the course of 2 days the boys played six matches against some of the top schools in the Southeast. They posted a 8-10 record in singles play, 7-2 record in doubles play, and ended with a 15-12 record. As a team they finished 1-2, taking 27th out of 36 teams. They lost to Niceville (2-5) and Pensacola Catholic (3-4), but recovered with a 5-2 win against AC Flora. Namit Sambare made the all tournament team in singles after going undefeated, including a huge 1,1 win over Jacob Baehr (UTR 10.90) from Pensacola Catholic. Namit Sambare and Joris Bizys also went undefeated in doubles and took home all tournament honors. This coming weekend the boys travel to Edwardsville, Il to compete against some of the best teams from Illinois.
Week of March 13th This week the Boys Tennis team saw their first action of the season as they traveled down South to compete in the Triad Invitational. They placed 3rd out of 24 teams, beating Belleville West 3-2, losing to U-High 1-4, and then defeating Lincoln-East 7-2. The boys played terrific and got some great early season wins and invaluable experience. The team was anchored by sophomore Joris Bizys who captured a nice win versus Ryan Mitchell from Lincoln-Way East during singles match play, and veteran players Amrit Selvaraj and Nicholas Rodriguez who went undefeated all day. Next up, the boys travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee next weekend with Hinsdale Central to compete in the DecoTurf National Championships.
