The state-qualifying triple jumpers took their three jumps at the state meet and made a great effort, but were unable to make finals. They are both underclassmen and will benefit from this experience in hopes of making finals next year.
Week of May 9th
The sectional meet was Thursday, May 12 at Lockport high school. Of the many great performances that night, Kiki Twardosz (2:21.94 in the 800) and Kailey Hoel (60.48 in the 400) came very close to the state qualifying standards. Kailey placed fourth and was all-sectional with her time in the 400. Other all-sectional athletes included Marie-Paul Moukiama placed 3rd in the long (17’1”) and 4th in the triple jump (36’9”) in which the triple jump mark far surpassed the state-qualifying standard of 35’10.” Raquel Blumenstein placed 3rd in the triple jump (36’11”), and also qualified for the state meet at Eastern Illinois University. Raquel and Marie-Paul’s marks put them as 12th and 13thin the state, respectively.
Week of May 2nd
Congratulations on a great finish at the conference meet! We finished 2nd (ONE POINT ahead of Morton) at outdoor conference this year!
Conference Champions: Raquel Blumenstein was conference champion in the triple jump, jumping further than the state qualifying mark!
Our 4x800 relay also won conference with the best time we’ve had in over a decade in that event 10:01!!! That team was Kailey Hoel, Kiki Twardosz, Natalie Axelrod, and Neha Chinwalla.
All-Conference (2nd place): Rachel Arellano was all-conference (2nd place) in the discus with an amazing personal-record throw of 106’1.5”!
The 4x400 relay team (Natalie Axelrod, Raquel Blumenstein, Sarah Nwakudu, & Kailey Hoel) dropped an incredible 9 seconds off their season best to place 2nd at conference!
Marie-Paul Moukiama had a personal best 17’1” (only 5” from the state qualification standard), earning her a second place in the conference!
Week of April 25th
On Friday, the lady hornets ran at Wheaton-Warrenville South at the prestigious 20-team Tiger Invitational. Kailey Hoel led the hornets placing 2nd in the 400 with a season best 60.07! The triple jumpers: Marie-Paul Moukiama, Sarah Nwakudu, and Raquel Blumenstein, also had a good night placing 4th, 7th and 9th of out nearly 60 girls competing!
Week of April 18th
Our girls track team hosted the 8-team Hornette Invite on Wednesday, 4/20. We placed 4th as a team as the monsoon poured down upon us, only fractions of a point behind Morton. This was also senior night, and we honored all 18 seniors before the meet. Our 4x800 team of Kailey Hoel, Natalie Axelrod, Kiki Twardosz, and Neha Chinwalla placed first at the invite! Rachel Arellano also had a monstrous personal record in the discus throwing over 100 feet!
Week of April 11th
There were two girls track meets this past week. Wednesday night’s meet at DGN allowed for all girls to compete! Raquel Blumenstein had an especially good day in triple jump and the 200, jumping 35’1.5” and running a 28.0 in the 200. These were big personal records for her and place her as the top triple jumper on the team and third best in the 200. On Saturday, we competed at the Devilette Invite at Hinsdale Central. Rachel Arellano and Agne Lukoseviciute both had large personal records in the discus throwing over 90 feet! Also doing well, was our 4x800 team, (Kailey Hoel, Natalie Axelrod, Kiki Twardosz, Neha Chinwalla), who placed second at a very competitive meet.
Week of March 14th
This week, the girls track and field team finished second at the West Suburban Gold Conference meet at Addison Trail high school. Junior Marie-Paul (MP) Moukiama won her third straight indoor conference title in the triple jump, barely beating teammate Sarah Nwakudu. Sarah placed second and was all-conference. Kailey Hoel was all-conference in the 300 and 400, placing 2nd in each event, and Kiki Twardosz was all-conference finishing 2nd in 800. MP Moukiama was our team’s MVP for this meet scoring 23 of the team’s 98.5 points. In addition to winning the triple jump, MP also placed 3rd in the long jump and 55 meter hurdles, and 6th in the high jump.
Week of March 7th
HORNETS WIN 2 MORE INVITES THIS WEEK!!!
It was a big week for the girls track team! We started off winning our 4-team meet on that we hosted Wednesday against West Chicago, Marist, and Stagg. Coming in first place for the hornets were: Emma Ririe (3200), Kiki Twardosz (800), Natalie Axelrod (400), Raquel Blumenstein (Triple Jump), Shell Hampton (Long Jump). We were able to sweep the 3200, long, jump, triple jump, and 800
On Saturday, the hornets traveled to Morton for a 12-team invitational. The hornets once again won the invite beating conference foes Leyden, Addison Trail, and Leyden. Winning their event for the hornets were: Sydney Locke (3200), Sarah Nwakudu (triple jump), and the 4x400 relay team (Natalie Axelrod, Kiki Twardosz, Andrea Stirling, and Sarah Nwakudu). Placing second for the hornet were: MP Moukiama (triple jump), Kiki Twardosz (1600), 4x80 relay (Maria Boulos, Renata Macias, Andrea Stirling, and Sarah Nwakudu), and the 4x160 lap relay (Shell Hampton, Kayla Ramos, Andrea Stirling, Sarah Nwakudu). MP Moukiama was MVP for the meet scoring 24 of the team’s 116 points (2nd – triple jump, 3rd – 55 Hurdles, 3rd – High Jump, 4th long jump).
Week of February 15
The lady hornets went to Willowbrook this past weekend to an invitational against: Willowbrook, Addison Trail, Conant, Trinity, and Morton. The hornets came out victorious again!
Kailey Hoel won the 300, 400, and placed 2nd in the 55 and 200 meter dashes. Rachel Arellano placed second in the shot put with a personal record 33’11”! MP Moukiama placed 2nd in the 55 hurdles, had a lifetime personal record in the triple jump, leaping 34’3” to place 2nd, and another lifetime best in the long jump, 16’4.5”! Neha Chinwalla placed 2nd and Kiki Twardosz placed 3rd in the 800, and Kiki also placed 2nd in the mile. Sydney Locke placed 2nd in the 3200 m run. Shell Hampton placed 2nd in the long jump!
Week of February 8
This week, the lady hornets track team competed in a 6-team invitational at York high school. In addition to York, other teams included Hersey, Hoffman Estates, Addison Trail, and Willowbrook. Hinsdale South won the varsity level with 112 points! Senior captain Kailey Hoel led the hornets with 24 pts, winning the 300 and 400 meter races, and placing 4th in the 55 m dash. Junior Sarah Nwakudu won the triple jump and the 200 dash, and also placed 6th in the long jump. Shell Hampton, a sophomore transfer from York, won the long jump and 55 m dash, and was a member of both relays. Senior thrower Kyra Riley remains undefeated in the shot put winning this invitational and last week’s home meet. Sophomore Natalie Axlerod also had a great day placing 2nd in the 400, 3rd in the 200, and 4th in the 300 meter races.
Week of February 1
The girls’ track and field season hit full stride this week with time trials and our first meet. The goal of the first meet is to establish a mark that you will work to beat. With several of our top returning sprinters not competing for the first meet, new lady hornets stepped up. Some highlights from our first meet our Kyra Riley, Rachel Arellano and Ange Lukoseviciute sweeping the shot put, Cheenie Ayala jumping 4’10, and new sprinters Shell Hampton, Andrea Stirling, and Renata Macias.
