Sophomore The last two games of the season concluded this week for the Hornets and Coach Reyes and Coach Gawle couldn't be any more proud of how the season finished for their team. Monday, the team traveled to York in which turned out to be a breakout game for the Hornets. Jack Lombardo went the distance allowing three runs, not all of them earned. Even though Lombardo was dealing, the Hornets found themselves in a close game entering the sixth inning with the score 3-2. The new York pitcher had been doing a great job throwing two perfect innings and the key play of the game soon followed. Leading off the sixth, Ross Wenkus laid down a beautiful bunt single down the third base line. Sometimes its not the flashiest of plays, but this play opened the gates and took the Dukes off of their game. The Hornets then proceeded to score 5 in the sixth and an amazing 13 in the seventh, capped of by an inside the park grand slam off the bat of Matt Uba. Colton Kotecki also had a number of hard hits including a triple to lead off the game. The Hornets would win the game by the score of 21-3.
Tuesday, the Hornets closed out the season traveling to Legion Field to take on rival Downers Grove North. Connor McGinley started the game, going five strong innings keeping the Hornets in the game. Paris Lewis was locked in at the plate all game long, hitting line shots all over the diamond one of which would have left the yard had the wind not kept it in. All members of the Hornets were able to play in this game and those who reached base did a masterful job of stealing bases. Ross Wenkus came into the game to throw the last two innings and shut North down. The Hornets won the game by the score of 9-7.
We would like to thank all of our parents and supporters who were there rooting us on from the stands each and every game. This was a close team and no matter the score, they always played till the final out. We wish them the best going forward and continuing their success in the classroom and as the enter summer ball as part of the varsity squad, Expect Victory!
Freshman The Freshman season ended with a 2 game week, where we won one and lost the other. On Monday, we traveled to York, where we ended up losing 13-8. We started out fast, scoring 4 runs in the first inning. Evan Zenger and Jake Klepacz both reached on errors and later scored. Coach Ducky had the double steal working to perfection as we turned 3 first and third situations into 3 runs scored. Mike McCormack also added an RBI single. However, we gave York 3 runs back in the bottom of the first, all after 2 outs. York took advantage of 3 walks and 2 errors in the 3rd inning to score 7 runs to put the game out of reach. Frankie Klemm added an RBI single in the 6th inning to score Owen Dellamaria. We then rallied for 3 runs in the 7th, but it wasn't enough to overcome York's lead. Mike McCormack added 2 more RBIs with a double and Nick Angus drove in a run with a single.
On Tuesday we completed our season with a 3-1 victory over Downers Grove North. Evan Zenger and Frankie Klemm combined for a well pitched game. The defense helped out by turning a double play in the second inning and Max Cilek threw out a runner trying to steal in the 5th inning. In the third inning, Frankie Klemm walked and later scored, Nick Zelenik singled and scored, and Max Cilek added an RBI. In the 6th inning, Jake Klepacz had a single and a run scored in the and Ryan Kilrea pounded out a double. It was a well played game, and it was a great way to end our season. GO HORNETS!!!

Sophomore This week, the Hornets closed out conference play along with having two tough non-conference games as the schedule begins to wind down. Monday, the Hornets traveled to Morton to try and clinch a share of the conference title while also trying to beat the impending rain in the forecast. The Hornets battled tough as the game see-sawed back and forth. The team was up going into the last inning, however Morton was able to tie the game sending it to extra innings. In extras, the rain started falling and so did the hits for our team. Connor McGinley and Tyler Matsunaga had back to back doubles to give us the lead and we never looked back taking the game by the score of 10-7.
Wednesday, the Hornets welcomed OPRF to Alumni Field to have a matchup between the leaders of both the Silver and Gold Divisions of our conference. The Hornets played solid defensively and Ross Wenkus did a masterful job on the mound as the Hornets took the game by the score of 3-2.
After a rainout pushed Thursdays game to Friday, the Hornets welcomed Lyons to close out their home schedule on the season. LT jumped out to an early lead but the Hornets never quit in this contest. Trailing 8-3 heading into the final inning, the Hornets rallied and fought till the final out. A 2 RBI basehit by Bobby O'Donnell cut the lead to 8-7. After O'Donnell advanced to second base to try and tie the game, the Hornets flied out to right field ending the game with a loss by the score of 8-7. Two non-conference games loom as we head to the final games of the season, Expect Victory!
Freshman It was a typical week for the Freshman Hornets, as we split our games, 1-1, and we had some weather issues with 2 games cancelled due to rain and poor field conditions. On Monday, we completed a 3 game sweep of Morton, 7-0. The sweep was dominated by our pitchers as we registered 3 consecutive shutouts against the Mustangs. Monday's victory went to CJ Drake, who pitched 5 scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts. Evan Zenger pitched the last 2 innings, getting all 6 outs by strikeouts. It was a dominant pitching performance. The offense was slow to get started, but we finally erupted in the 4th inning with 4 runs. Nick Angus, CJ Drake, Greg Turner and Evan Zenger (triple) all had RBI's in the inning. Greg Turner would also add an RBI in the 6th inning. Kevin Shanker and Max Cilek scored runs in the 6th inning.
We were not as fortunate in Friday's game against Lyons Township. Lyons came to play and erupted for 10 runs in the first inning. We ended up with our worst defeat of the season, 16-2. The only offense came in the 5th inning when Frankie Klemm singled and came around to score on Evan Zenger's double. Evan would later score on a single by Jake Klepacz. We will look to bounce back next week in games against York and Downers Grove North. GO HORNETS!!!

Sophomore The Hornets came into the week with a daunting six game schedule, but that did not stop them from playing their hearts out and having one of the best weeks of the season. Monday, the Hornets welcomed Leyden for a home conference game. The game went back and forth throughout and the team found themselves down three runs entering the 7th inning. As we've seen time and time again from this team they never quit. With the score now being 10-9 having bases loaded and two outs, Jack Lombardo hit a slow roller to short. He was able to beat out the throw scoring Colton Kotecki from third, and Ryan Kuhlman never stopped running and was able to score from second base on an infield hit to win the game.
Tuesday, the Sophomores traveled back to Leyden to complete a rain shortened game versus Leyden the past Saturday. Jack Lombardo did a magnificent job on the mound and the team as a whole played aggressive and fundamentally sound baseball winning the game 11-7.
Wednesday, the Hornets welcomed non-conference opponent Stagg to Alumni Field. After a top half of the first inning to forget, the Hornets outscored Stagg the rest of the way but ultimately fell 11-5.
Thursday, we took on rival Hinsdale Central and it was no doubt the most exciting and drama filled game of the season. It was a back and forth game throughout. Bobby O'Donnell hit a monster home run to right field in the second inning to highlight the plethora of hits the Hornets had throughout. Matt Uba threw the entire game, including extra innings. The game ended in heartbreak as Hinsdale Central was able to push across the winning run in extra innings as they won 6-5.
Saturday, the Hornets played a doubleheader against conference opponent Morton. Jack Lombardo and Ross Wenkus pitched games one and two allowing no earned runs on the day. The Hornets won both games by the scores of 9-0 and 6-1 with every player contributing in one way or another. This upcoming week, the Hornets have three games but we'll see if mother nature agrees. Either way, Expect Victory! Freshman It was a good week of baseball for the Freshman team as we had 3 wins and 2 losses. The only bad game was a loss to Hinsdale Central, other than that, the team played great baseball all week. The week started off with another victory over Leyden, 4-1. Evan Zenger pitched a complete game with 7 strikeouts and gave up only 3 hits. The defense was solid all game with only 1 error and turned a double play in the 2nd inning. We scored 4 runs in the first inning and that would be all the runs we needed. Justin Davis turned in a nice catch in left field in the 7th inning and Kevin Shanker had a solid base hit in the 6th inning. On Tuesday, we played one of our best games of the year, but lost to Stagg 5-4. After a rough 1st inning, Mike McCormack came in for 5 innings of relief pitching, where he only gave up 1 run and had 6 strikeouts. The defense played well again and had only 1 error. Both Mike McCormack and Mark Christoforo had singles and RBIs in the first inning. The other RBIs were collected by Evan Zenger and Nick Angus. Nick Zelenik also contributed to the offense with 2 hits and a run scored.
On Thursday we traveled to Hinsdale Central to face our district rival. It was a tough day for the defense and we fell behind early and could never recover. We rallied for 3 runs in the 7th inning, but it wasn't enough as we lost 9-3. Mark Christoforo collected 2 hits, had an RBI and scored a run. Also, Ryan Kilrea smashed a double and scored a run. It was a tough loss, but the players learned that they need to be more consistent in the field and at the plate.
We wrapped up our week on Saturday, at home, with a doubleheader against Morton. It was a good day for the Hornets as we swept the Mustangs, 10-0 and 8-0. In the first game, Nick Angus and Nick Zelenik combined for a no-hit shutout. They combined for 8 strikeouts and were backed up by a stellar defense. CJ Drake made a triumphant return from injury with a double, a walk and 3 runs scored. Kevin Shanker had a nice day at the plate with a single, an RBI and a run scored. The game was broken wide open in the 2nd inning when the Hornets scored 7 runs. That inning was led by Jake Klepacz with a double and 2 RBIs and Owen Dellamaria with a single and 2 RBIs. The Hornets never looked back and cruised to a 10-0 victory. The second game was much of the same as Mike McCormack, Frankie Klemm and CJ Drake combined for a 2 hit shutout with 7 strikeouts. The game was decided early with 3 runs in the 1st inning and 2 runs in the 3rd inning. The offense was led by Nick Angus, who had 2 singles, a triple, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Evan Zenger pounded out 2 doubles, while both Owen Dellamaria and Max Cilek had a hit, a walk and a run scored. The doubleheader sweep of Morton was a great way to end the week. Sophomore This past week was a week filled with high emotion, good pitching, and a 2-1 record for the Sophomore Hornets. Monday was the rubber match between the Hornets and conference opponent Willowbrook. This was a wild game of back and forth baseball with high drama with close calls. The Hornets found themselves tied 9-9 going into the sixth inning, however they were not able to get the benefit of a few close calls and dropped the game by the score of 10-9.
Tuesday, the Hornets quickly put that game behind them as they poured on their highest run total of the 2016 season. Every single player contributed and the Hornets beat Proviso West by the score of 25-1.
After some rain outs and quality conditioning inside, the Hornets were able to get one game in of a scheduled doubleheader against conference opponent Leyden on Saturday. Matt Uba was dominant on the mound keeping the opponents guessing at the plate pitching a two hit shutout. The Hornets scored two runs in the first inning by Colton Kotecki and Ryan Kuhlman as they won game one 2-0 before rain postponed game two. Six games on the radar for the Hornets this upcoming week highlighted by four conference games and a date with Hinsdale Central, Expect Victory!
Freshman The Hornets started off their week on Monday with the final game of the 3 game series against Willowbrook. Unfortunately we ended up on the wrong end of a 12-2 decision. Despite the score, the game was well played by the Hornets as Willowbrook only scored in 2 innings. Evan Zenger pitched well enough to win, but a 5 run inning by Willowbrook was enough to give them the victory. Ryan Kilrea and Mike McCormack each had 1 RBI in the first inning.
Mother Nature reared her ugly head again as our 2 games during the week were cancelled and we were only able to play 1 game of our doubleheader on Saturday. It was worth the bus ride up to Leyden, as we won 10-4 on a rainy morning. Owen Dellamaria turned in another fine performance on the mound with a solid 5 innings, while only giving up 2 runs. (6 walks and 4 hit batters and 3 errors did not help the cause either). In the 4th inning, Jake Klepacz started off with a walk and later scored. Also during the 4th inning, Ryan Kilrea, Owen Dellamaria and Frankie Klemm all had hits and all went on to score. Sophomore Spring was definitely in the air for a busy week for the Sophomore Baseball team. With the good weather, came a busy week of games highlighted by comebacks and good pitching. Monday's game versus Proviso East was one filled with excitement and determination. The Hornets had a plethora of pitchers in that game which included Connor McGinley, Connor Madden, Mike Early, and Ross Wenkus. They did a wonderful job of keeping the game close to setup what turned out to be an improbable comeback. Going into the last inning, the Hornets were down 6-2 and had two outs in the inning. The key hit in that game was a bases clearing triple by Jack Lombardo which broke the game wide open in the late innings.
Saturday, the team traveled to DGS for an afternoon doubleheader. In Game 1, Jack Lombardo threw a gem going the distance allowing only 1 run. However, going into the last inning the Hornets and Mustangs were deadlocked at 1. The Hornets bats woke up and batted around the order as they pounded away for an 11 run seventh inning to win the game by the commanding score of 12-1.
Game two did not go as favorably. Ross Weknus did a great job of throwing strikes on the mound but some costly errors gave the Mustangs the majority of their runs. The Hornets battled tough, overcoming an early lead to tie it in the 4th inning at four a piece. They put another small rally together in the 7th but ultimately fell short by the score of 12-7. Going 4-2 was a great accomplishment for having so many games in a week, but with another five games this upcoming week the Hornets will need to continue to keep the bats hot and pitchers continuing to throw strikes. Expect Victory!
Freshman The season finally got into full swing as we played a full week's schedule without a rainout. We started our conference schedule with 2 straight wins over Addison Trail. We won the first game 8-4, behind starting pitcher Nick Angus, and relief pitcher, Frankie Klemm. The offense was led by Owen Dellamaria with 3 hits and 2 runs scored and Nick Zelenik with a hit, 2 walks and 2 runs scored. We followed up that victory with a 10-0 win the next day. Evan Zenger pitched great and got the win. A big 7 run third inning was the catalyst to our victory. Evan Zenger started the inning with a single and Max Cilek ended the scoring with an RBI single. 7 different Hornets scored during the inning.
On Thursday, we dropped a game to a tough Glenbard West team, 10-2. Glenbard West had a consistent offense and they scored in each of the first 5 innings. This proved too much for us to overcome. However, Frankie Klemm and Ryan Kilrea did have 2 hits apiece.
On Saturday, we had a big doubleheader with our rivals, Downers Grove South. It was a tough day for the Hornets as we dropped both games to the Mustangs. We lost the first game, 12-7, after putting up 4 runs in the first inning. Mike McCormack, Nick Angus and Mark Christoforo each had an RBI single in the inning. However, the Mustangs responded with 5 runs in the bottom of the first. The pitching was inconsistent all game as they issued 10 walks and hit 2 batters. We responded with 3 late runs, but it wasn't enough to overcome the high powered Mustang offense. Jake Klepacz and Ryan Kilrea each had 2 runs scored. The second game ended up as a 10-0 loss. The Mustangs used a 7 run third inning to put the Hornets away. The Hornets hit the ball well, but there was always a Mustang in place to get the out. We will look forward to another busy week as we have 4 games during the week and another doubleheader next Saturday. GO HORNETS!!!

Sophomore This week was filled with adjustment and cancellations for the Sophomore Baseball team. With five games cancelled this week, the Hornets were able to continually work hard and stay motivated throughout the week at practice. However, they were able to get one game in this week and that was versus Schaumburg on Tuesday. The elements were definitely a factor as it rained and sleeted during the last three innings. Being down 11-3 going into the last inning, the Hornets fought back to 11-8 and had the winning run at the plate but could not complete the improbable comeback. David Nkansah had a very good day at the plate having a number of solid at bats, while Ross Wenkus and Connor McGinley were throwing strikes consistently on the mound. Next week, the Hornets have six games in six days with five of those games being in conference. Expect Victory!
Freshman The weather was not kind to us last week as we had 4 games scheduled, but 3 were canceled. The one game we did play was well worth the trip up to Schaumburg, as we won, 10-1. Nick Angus started the game for us and gave us 2 scoreless innings. Owen Dellamaria came on in relief and consistently hit the strike zone. He only gave up 1 run over 4 innings. The offense was very patient at the plate and we received many walks. The whole lineup contributed, but the big hit of the game was a bases clearing triple by Michael McCormack. Those 3 runs extended our lead to 6-0, and we never looked back. We look forward to a busy week of 5 games. GO HORNETS!!!

Freshman After a few weeks of practice, the Freshman Baseball season finally got underway last Friday with a home game against Bolingbrook. Unfortunately we lost the opener, 15-4. A slow start gave Bolingbrook the lead and we couldn't catch up. It is a long season and there is lots of talent on the team.
