Varsity Four Hornet wrestlers competed at the IHSA state tournament this past week. They met some very stiff competition, wrestling 3 state champions and 3 place winners between the four, and gained very valuable experience for the future! Tyvell White was the only senior in the group, and his contribution and commitment will be greatly missed. Easa Aristizabal and Julian Kinsey look forward to carrying on this season’s success next year as seniors, and Derrick Singleton has a very bright future being just a freshmen!
The varsity team finished the year with an 11-10 dual meet record, and went 3-3 in conference duals. A talented and energetic group of young wrestlers look forward to preparing for a terrific season next year!
Week of February 6th
Varsity Four Hornet wrestlers are state bound!! The team competed in the individual sectional tournament this weekend. The top four place winners in each weight class qualify for the IHSA state tournament next weekend at the University of Illinois. At the end of two long days of wrestling, Derrick Singleton (106lb), Easa Aristizabal (145lb), Julian Kinsey (160lb), and Tyvell White (182lb) all finished in 4th place to earn the chance to compete against the best wrestlers in the state! Tyler Sally and Jacob Dahleh also competed very well at the sectional tournament, but came up just short of advancing. The team also greatly missed senior captain Danish Qureshi who was forced to miss the tournament due to illness. Competition at the state wrestling tournament will begin at 1:00pm at the State Farm Center on Thursday 16th, and will run through Saturday 18th!
Week of January 30th
Varsity The Hornet varsity wrestling team traveled to Lemont High School on Saturday to compete in their IHSA regional tournament. Each wrestler competed very well, and there were numerous season-ending heartbreaks and victorious triumphs throughout the day. Seven Hornet wrestlers placed in the top three to advance to next week’s sectional tournament. Derrick Singleton, Danish Qureshi, Easa Aristizabal, Julian Kinsey, and Jacob Dahleh all placed 3rd, while Tyvell White and Tyler Sally both finished in 2nd. Danish and Easa demonstrated a lot of courage as they both won their final matches despite wrestling with injuries. Derrick and Jacob also earned their first podium finish of their varsity wrestling career! Enrique Castellanos, Renwick Williams, Keenan Stewart, Will Hogan, and Kemonie Miller all competed with great effort on Saturday, but came up just short of advancing. The team looks forward to competing again next Friday and Saturday at the sectional tournament!
Week of January 23rd
Varsity The varsity team competed in their last two regular season dual meets this past week. On Tuesday, the Hornets hosted Hinsdale Central. Despite a lopsided team score, the Hornets competes hard. Renwick Williams and Jacob Dahleh gave especially good effort in their matches.
In Thursday night, Addison Trail came to Hinsdale South for the final dual meet of the conference schedule. The dual was intensely close from the start, with the two teams trading matches for the first six weight classes. With five matches remaining, the Hornets found themselves trailing 20-27. The team not only won the all of the final five matches to seal the team victory, they won four of the five with bonus point! Huge wins by Enrique Castellanos, Julian Kinsey, and Tyler Sally were the highlights of the night. Before the dual, the team also took time to recognize six seniors who were wrestling for the last time as Hornets. Danish Qureshi, Neelyn Williams, Enrique Castellanos, Matas Astrauskas, Tyvell White, and Kemonie Miller have been a huge part of the Hornet wrestling program and we wish them all the best of luck as they move on to bigger, better things!
JV The JV team hosted a tournament on Saturday with twelve teams from both sides of the West Suburban Conference. Competing with seven wrestlers, the Hornets finished in 6th place as a team. Kailor Rogers-Nichols, Matas Astrauskas, and Tyler Sally all finished in 4th, Kemonie Miller took 5th, and Zach Lowery and Tyler Hill earned 6th place finishes!
Freshmen Saturday was the last competition of the season for the freshmen team as well, as they competed in the conference tournament at Lyons Township. The team places 7th overall, competing with eight wrestlers. Josh Ririe and Jeremiah Kinsey both finished in 3rd place. Derrick Singleton and Quinton Fields earned 1st place in the tournament. Derrick Singleton was also voted the most outstanding wrestler of the tournament by the conference coaches! The freshmen team showed great enthusiasm, effort, and growth throughout the season, and we are very excited about their potential for success in the future!
Week of January 16th
Varsity In three varsity duals this week, the team finished with a 2-1 record. On Friday night, the Hornets defeated conference opponent Proviso East. On Saturday, the varsity team traveled to York for a triangular dual meet against the host school and Round Lake. The Hornets defeated Round Lake in the first matchup of the day, then lost a hard-fought dual to York. A number of varsity wrestlers were unbeaten on the week. Keenan Stewart, Julian Kinsey, Tyvell White, and Steve Farina were all 3-0. Tyvell White also won both of his matches on Saturday by pin, adding points to the team score.
JV The JV team had the same schedule as varsity this week. On Friday night against Proviso East, Kailor Rogers-Nichols, Zach Lowery, Mauricio Garza, Tyler Hill, and Tyler Sally were all winners! On Saturday, Neelyn Williams was dominant in both of his matches, winning both by pin.
Freshmen On both Friday night and Saturday, the freshmen team was asked to contribute more to varsity this week than they had all season to this point. Derrick Singleton, Josh Ririe, Jeremiah Kinsey, and Erik Nauckunas all competed with great effort and gained valuable varsity experience over the weekend.
Week of January 9th Varsity The varsity team competes twice over this past week. The first was home dual against conference opponent Leyden. The team score was close from start to finish, and was even tied at multiple points through the dual. In the final match of the night, Jacob Dahleh pinned his opponent to seal a 35-27 dual win for the Hornets! Derrick Singleton, Danish Qureshi, Keenan Stewart, Julian Kinsey, and Tyvell White also won critical matches to help the team win.
On Saturday, the varsity team hosted a triple dual and competed in three more team duals. First, the Hornets defeated De La Salle Institute 60-16, taking a number of forfeits as well as winning some tough matches. Freshmen heavyweight Erik Nauckunas won by pin in the first varsity match of his high school career! Next, they wrestled Jacobs, losing by a score of 30-46 despite competing very well. In the final dual of the day, the Hornets got another team win against St. Patrick 45-27. Overall, the team finished with a 3-1 dual record and Danish Qureshi, Keenan Stewart, and Julian Kinsey were all 4-0 on the week!
JV The JV team competed against Leyden on Thursday as well. Although they competed well, they were not able to get any individual wins.
Freshmen The freshmen wrestlers were very successful in their competition against Leyden. In six matches the Hornets won four of them, and competed very well in the two losses. Tyler Jennenga, Jeremiah Kinsey, Quinton Fields, and Erik Nauckunas all earned wins.
Week of January 2nd
Varsity In their first competition of the new year, the varsity team traveled to Hampshire High School for a Quad meet. In their first dual, the Hornets defeated Belvidere HS by a score of 42-22. Jeremiah Kinsey earned the first varsity win of his high school career with a pin in the second period! In the next dual, the Hornets lost 22-45 to Rockford East HS. Keenan Stewart avenged a loss from earlier in the season with an 11-1 major decision. Julian Kinsey also earned his second win by pin on the day. In the final dual, the Hornets took on host Hampshire. The dual was close from the start, ultimately being decided by the last match. Freshmen Derrick Singleton pinned his opponent in the final seconds of the match to secure the dual win for the Hornets, 34-32! Danish Qureshi, Keenan Stewart, Will Hogan, Jacob Dahleh, and Steve Farina all earned victories as well, but everyone competed with great effort! The following night, Thursday, the Hornets traveled to Downers Grove South for a conference dual. The final score of the dual was not in the Hornet’s favor, however, the wrestlers competed well. Steve Farina, Danish Qureshi, Keenan Stewart, and Will Hogan were all winners on the night. Keenan Stewart’s performance was the highlight of the week, he finished 4-0 with four dominant victories!
JV The JV team also competed at DSG on Thursday. Zach Lowery wrestled especially well, winning his match with a 10-2 major decision.
Freshmen At the freshmen level, the Hornets competed very well against DGS, winning four out of six head-to-head matches! Josh Ririe, Jeremiah Kinsey, Quinton Fields, and Erik Nauckunas all earned victories on the night. Jesse Carrillo and Tyler Jennenga both wrestled tremendously well and showed great improvement!
Week of December 26th
Varsity Over the Christmas break, the varsity team traveled to Palatine High School to compete in one of the most daunting tournaments in the state. The team was not able to place any individual wrestlers, but saw great effort by each member and individual success from Will Hogan (2-2) and Keenan Stewart (2-2).
JV On New Year’s Eve, the JV team competed in a dual team tournament at Oswego East High School. Although the team came out on the short end of all three team scores, Kailor Rogers and Steve Farina wrestled especially well and showed great improvement!
Freshmen Also on New Year’s Eve, the freshmen Hornets hosted an individual tournament attended by twelve competing schools. The freshmen team finished in fourth place in the final team standings, barely missing a spot on the medal stand. As individuals, the Hornets won first place at three weight classes! Erik Nauckunas (Hwt.), Quinton Fields (220), and Jeremiah Kinsey (145) were all tournament champions! Josh Ririe finished in second place (99), and Marco Romero finished in fourth (138)!
Week of December 19th
JV The Hornet JV team competed well in a meet against Wheaton Warrenville South on Wednesday night, winning three out of four head to head matches. Thursday the team traveled to Sycamore High School for a dual team tournament. They finished with a 4-1 record, losing their only dual by one point. Some notable performances were Tyler Sally’s 6-0 record for the week, and Kailor Rogers’ great effort and 3-3 record over the week!
Freshmen The freshmen team also had success against WWS, winning three out of five matches. Jeremiah Kinsey and Marco Romero continue to make huge strides of improvement!
Week of December 12th
Varsity The Hornet varsity wrestling team competed twice this past week, in a conference dual against Willowbrook and a two-day tournament at Hinsdale Central. In the Willowbrook dual, the varsity team narrowly missed a conference victory, falling 34-36. The team won six out of eleven head-to-head matches, with five of those wins coming by pin. Derrick Singleton, Keenan Stewart, Julian Kinsey, Tyvell White, and Jacob Dahleh all won by fall, with Easa Aristizabal adding a hard-fought major decision.
On Friday and Saturday, the varsity team competed in the Whitlatch Invite hosted by Hinsdale Central. Danish Qureshi, Keenan Stewart, Julian Kinsey, Tyvell White, and Jacob Dahleh all earned at least one victory in the competition. Easa Aristizabal had the standout performance of the tournament, posting a 4-3 record through the two-day competition and earning 6th place!
JV The JV wrestling team performed well in the Willowbrook dual, winning five out of six head-to-head matches! Zach Lowery had a terrific week of competition, finishing with a 4-0 record!
Freshmen The freshmen team also had success against Willowbrook in their dual. Josh Ririe, Kyle Richardson, Erik Naukunas, Quentin Fields, and Jeremiah Kinsey all earned wins on the night. On Saturday, the freshmen team competed in three team duals. Derrick Singleton and Erik Naukunas finished the day unbeaten!
Week of December 5th
Varsity The Hornets varsity team competed twice this past week. The first was a home conference dual against Morton High School on Friday. The Hornets were forced to forfeit a number of weight classes, which proved to be the difference in the match, but still wrestled very well in head-to-head matches! Renwick Williams, Easa Aristizabal, Tyvell White, and Derrick Singleton all won decisive matches, all scoring bonus points with pins of major decisions. Derrick Singleton’s matched proved to be the highlight of the night as he pinned his opponent in the first varsity match of his high school career! On Saturday, the varsity team traveled to wrestle duals against Andrew High School and Glenbard West. Both team scores ended up being lopsided, but the few Hornet wrestlers competing did so very well! In head-to head matches against Glenbard West, the Hornets had a 4-2 record. And each of the varsity wrestlers finished with a win on the day.
JV The JV wrestling team had a dual meet against Morton on Friday, and then were spread between an invitational tournament at Chicago Hope Academy and a sophomore tournament at Wheaton North. Zach Lowery had another great week of competition, winning his match against Morton and finishing 2nd on a tough field at Wheaton North. Kailor Rogers-Nichols also placed 2nd at Wheaton North.
Freshmen The Freshmen team performed well against Morton on Friday. Josh Ririe, Jeremiah Kinsey, and Erik Nauckunas all finished with decisive wins on the night. On Saturday, members of the freshmen team also went to Chicago Hope Academy for the tournament. Derrick Singleton and Quentin Fields both finished their week competing well.
Week of November 28th
Varsity The varsity Hornet wrestling competed in only one event this week, hosting the annual Matozzi Invite! The team entered a limited number of wrestlers into the tournament, but still managed to place 7th out of a 10 team field. Great individual efforts were made by Easa Aristizabal at 145, placing 2nd with a record of 2-1, Julian Kinsey at 160, placing 2nd with a 2-1 record, and Tyvell White at 170, placing 3rd and also finishing with a 2-1 record. Hector Quintero just missed the podium by one place, finishing in 4th with a great effort on the day. The varsity team looks forward to a busy week of competition next week!
JV The JV team also only had one competition this week. They competed at Hinsdale Central in an invitational tournament. Zach Lowery and Tyler Hill led the effort with matching 2nd place finishes!
Freshmen The freshmen team competed in an invitational tournament at Andrew High School. Each member of the freshmen team earned a medal on the day. Marco Romero had a standout day with a 3rd place finish and a 2-1 record!
Week of November 21st
Varsity The Hornet varsity wrestling team got off to a fast start in their dual meet season, going 2-0 in their first outing with wins over Sullivan and Niles West. Some standout perfomances from the duals were Will Hogan’s 2-0 record, including an overtime win, and Easa Aristizabal’s 2-0 record. On Friday and Saturday, the team traveled to Barrington high school for the challenging Moore-Prettyman tournament. Danish Qureshi and Renwick Williams both advanced to the second day of competition, but were unable to reach the podium. Will Hogan, Tyvell White and Easa Aristizabal all posted impressive wins in the first day of competition.
JV The JV team began the season with two tough dual matchups in St. Rita and Mt. Carmel. Although the Hornets lost both of those duals, Max Cilek, Zach Lowery, Tytus Sally, and Enrique Castellanos all posted tough wins along the way. On Saturday, the JV team evened up their dual record by defeating Grayslake North and Highland Park. The team competed well from top to bottom in both matchups . Freshmen Despite having few numbers at the freshmen level, the team has competed very well so far this season! During the first meet Derrik Singleton went 2-0, earning a tough win over a Mt. Carmel opponent along the way. Over the weekend, the freshmen team competed in three duals at Bolingbrook high school. They came out on the short end of all three duals, but tied or won the head-to-head matched in each of those duals. Jeremiah Kinsey and Erik Nauckunas were both 3-0 on the day.
