On Monday, the Varsity Lady Hornet bowlers competed in the West Suburban Conference Headpin tournament. The Hornets bowled a 4352 series and finished in 8th place. The hornets were led by Junior Jennifer Griffin with a 919 series and she was awarded All-Conference honors.
On Saturday, the Hornets bowlers participated in the IHSA Regional tournament hosted by Hinsdale Central at Stardust Lanes. The Hornets fought hard and had some strong scores but we were not able to qualify for Sectionals. The Hornets bowled their highest team total of the season with a 4690. Junior Izzy Ruiz bowled a 981 series to qualify as an individual for IHSA Sectionals. Congratulations Izzy, good luck at Sectionals.
Week of January 23
On Wednesday the Hornet Lady Bowlers hosted Argo for Senior Night. We recognized seniors Jewel Wiley, Madeline Gaceta, Elaini Hondros and Dejah Burton. The varsity bowlers were able to defeat Argo on Senior night by a score of 2611-2232. Junior Allison Early led the Varsity Lady Hornets with a 542 series. Argo JV defeated the JV hornets 2143-2048. The JV Lady Hornets were led by senior 1st year bowler Elaini Hondros with a 409 series.
On Thursday, the Hornets bowlers participated in the Quigley JV 2 tournament. Four members of the Hornet Bowling team who had not competed in a tournament we selected to bowl. They were Sophomores Lyla Abogada and Kayla Makita as well as Freshmen Kyla Gray and Jaultiana Brown. Jaultiana led the JV 2 hornets with a nice 393 series and Kyla Gray had a solid 131 game.
On Saturday, the Varsity Lady Hornet bowlers competed in the 18 team Leyden Invite. The Hornets got off to a solid start but cooled in the afternoon. The Lady Hornets finished 12th in the field and they were led by Junior Jennifer Griffin with a 1020 series and Sophomore Sara Cleghorn with a 911 series.
Week of January 16
On Monday, the Hornet Lady JV Bowlers competed in the Plainfield North JV Invitational. The Hornets had a fairly consistent day staying in 18th place for the day out of 24 teams. Senior Elaini Hondros and Junior Diamond Hargrove led the Hornets. Elaini bowled a 734 over six games and Diamond bowled a 643 over 5 games.
On Tuesday, the Hornet Girl’s Bowling Team visited Leyden High School for another conference bowling meet. The Eagles came in with a strong record. Hinsdale South was defeated by Leyden High School by a total of 2841-2612. Sophomore Sara Cleghorn and Junior Jennifer Griffin led the Lady Hornets with 476 series. The JV Lady Hornets were able to defeat the Eagles with a score of 2161-2126. Junior Kendalla Puckett with a 442 series led the JV bowlers.
On Wednesday the Hornet Lady Bowlers visited another conference rival, the Willowbrook Warriors. The Warriors came in near the top of the conference and were coming off the impressive victory at the Ed Puck Hornet Invite. The Warriors were able to defeat the Hornets t a score of 3174-2672. Junior Jennifer Griffin led the Varsity Lady Hornets with a 500. series. The Warriors 2365-2189 also defeated the JV Hornet bowlers. This was one of the best dual meet scores by the JV Lady Hornets. The JV Lady Hornets were led by senior 1st year bowler Elaini Hondros with a 443 series.
On Thursday, the Hornets hosted the Morton Mustangs for a West Suburban Conference match. This match was the last conference meet of the season and the Hornets were looking for another conference win. Unfortunately the Lady Hornet Varsity team lost an extremely close match to the mustangs by a score of 2674-2665. Junior Jennifer Griffin again led the Hornets with a 529 series. The JV Lady Hornets also lost a close match to the JV mustangs 2020-1983. Junior Kendalla Puckett again led the Hornets with a 389 series.
Week of January 9
On Tuesday, the Hornet Girl’s Bowling Team visited Lisle High School for a nonconference bowling meet. The Lisle team only sported three bowlers so only three varsity bowlers from Hinsdale South competed. Hinsdale South was able to defeat Lisle High School by a total of 1274-1249. The Lady Hornets rotated Sara Cleghorn, Izzy Ruiz, Jennifer Griffin, and Allison Early to give them each a chance to bowl.
On Wednesday the Hornet Lady Bowlers visited their conference rival, the Downers Grove South Mustangs. This conference match was a close affair, but the Mistangs were able to defeat the Hornets by a score of 2774-2688. The Varsity Lady Hornets were led by Junior Izzy Ruiz with a strong 536 series. The JV Hornet bowlers were also defeated by the Mustangs 2283-1930. This was one of the best dual meet scores by the JV Lady Hornets. The JV Lady Hornets were led by a surprise Freshmen Kyla Gray with a 371 series. This was Kyla’s best series of the year.
On Friday, the Hornets hosted the 17th annual Ed Puck Hornet 10 Pin Tournament at Brunzwick Zone. This tournament features 6 bowlers from each of the 8 teams invited bowling 6 games in quick succession. The Lady Hornets were able to place 5th and were led by Junior Jennifer Griffin with a strong 1026 series. Junior Allison Early also bowled a strong 967 series and Sophomore Sara Cleghorn took home a medal for high game bowling 208 in the 5th game.
On Saturday, the Hornet Lady Varsity Bowlers competed in the Fenton Invitational. The Varsity Lady Hornets bowled very consistently all day and were able to finish in 18th place out of 24 teams. Junior Jennifer Griffin led the team with a 1026 series.
Week of December 12
On Wednesday, the Hornet Girl’s Bowling Team hosted Downers Grove North High School for a conference bowling meet. The varsity girls were defeated by a score of 2700-2424. Junior Jennifer Griffin with a 473 series led the team. The Hornet JV bowlers bowled well and were able to beat DGN by a score of 2134-1955. Senior Madeline Gaceta with a 422 series led the JV Hornets.
On Thursday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers visited their in district rival, the Hinsdale Central Red Devils. This was another conference match for the team and the Lady Red Devils put up an incredible score defeating the Hornets by a 3155-2424 score. Junior Izzy Ruiz with a 479 series led the team. The JV Hornet bowlers were also defeated by the Lady Red Devils 2250-1981. Junior Melissa McQuillan with a 353 series led the JV Hornets.
On Saturday, the Hornet Lady Varsity and JV Bowlers competed in the West Aurora Blackhawk Invitational. The Varsity Lady Hornets bowled very consistently all day and were able to finish in 6th place out of 9 teams. Sophomore Sara Cleghorn led the Hornets with a very strong 963 series. The JV bowlers we also able to remain consistent and had a strong finishing game to finish in 5th place out of 9 teams. The JV bowlers were led by Sophomore Emily Collins with a strong 729 series.
Week of December 5
On Tuesday, the Hornet Girl’s Bowling Team hosted Addison Trail High School for their first conference bowling meet of the season. The varsity girls bowled well and were able to pick up their first West Suburban Conference victory by a score of 2695-2363 over Addison Trail. Junior Allison Early with a 542 series led the team. The Hornet JV bowlers were also able to beat the Addison Trail JV team by a score of 1937-1626. Sophomore Emily Collins with a 399 series led the JV Hornets. It was a great conference start for the hornet girls bowling team.
On Thursday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers hosted the York Lady Dukes. This was another conference match for the team and the Hornet bowlers were unable to pick up their second conference win losing to York by a 22749-2603 score. Junior Jennifer Griffin with a 527 series led the team. The JV Hornet bowlers were also unable to get a win as the Lady Dukes defeated them 2261-1910. Junior Diamond Hargrove with a 365 series led the JV Hornets.
On Saturday, the Hornet Lady Varsity Bowlers completed in the Plainfield North Strikefest. This is the largest and most prestigious girl’s bowling tournament in Illinois and features 44 of the best teams in the state. The hornets started strong in the morning with a consistent Sara Cleghorn bowling a 519 series. Sara and Kendalla Puckett, two of the varsity bowlers had to leave after the morning session and two up and coming sophomores Emily Collins and Alissa Banks were called into action. The hornets struggled with inconsistency and fatigue in the afternoon and fell back. Juniors Jennifer Griffin with a 947 and Allison Early with 903 series led the hornets. Junior Allison Early led the hornets in the afternoon with a 452 series followed by Junior izzy Ruiz with a 445. Ultimately the hornets finished in 10th place in the copper division.
Week of November 28
On Monday, the Hornet Girl’s Bowling Team hosted Carl Sandburg High School for a non-conference bowling meet. This was the first team dual meet of the season. The varsity girls bowled well but ultimately lost to Sandburg 3125-2415. The team was led by junior Allison Early with a 469 series. The Hornet JV bowlers were also unable to beat the Sandburg JV team and lost by a score of 2496-2030. It was a difficult start for the hornet girls bowling team.
On Thursday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers hosted the Fenton Bison. This was another non-conference match for the team and the Hornet bowlers were able to pick up their first conference win by a 2659-2291 score. The team was led by junior Jennifer Griffin with a 533 series. The JV Hornet bowlers were also able to get a win as they defeated the Bison 1940-1847.
On Saturday, the Hornet Lady JV Bowlers completed in the Joliet Central Steelman JV invite. The hornets featured 5 new bowlers and 1 second year bowler. The only experienced bowler, Emily Collins led the team with a solid 722 series for the six games. The hornets had a strong finish and were able to capture 7th place out of 8 teams. It was a tremendous learning experience for the young bowlers.
Week of November 21
On Saturday, November 26th, the Hornet Lady Bowlers competed in their first tournament. This was the 24 team Plainfield Central Wildcat Invite. This is an excellent tournament with some of the best teams in Illinois including the defending state champions. The Hornets were able to shake off some tough starts and finish with two strong games. It was a great learning experience for the young Hornet Bowlers but they finished in 22nd place. The Hornets were paced by Junior Allison Early with an 880 series and by Sara Cleghorn with an 839.
