The varsity team had a great weekend competing at sectionals. The tournament was a great success as 4 of our wrestlers are heading to state. Danish Qureshi, Ernest Inglam, Zach Zarubin and Josh King are headed to Champaign-Urbana next weekend to compete in the IHSA 2A state wrestling tournament. They are now among the 16 other wrestlers that will compete for a state title at each weight class. Congratulations and Good Luck!!

Week of February 1st
Varsity The varsity got off to a great postseason start with their first Regional Championship in the last 13 years. The Hornets hosted the IHSA 2A wrestling regional where they competed against 8 other schools for a chance to win the regional as a team, and to earn a spot in next weekends IHSA Sectional tournament at Lemont High School.
The Hornets did just that, winning the regional as a team with a total of 220.5 points over the rest of the field. The following wrestlers also earned their spot in Sectionals by placing top 3 at our regional:

Week of January 25th
As crazy as it sounds the wrestling season has come to and end for our lower level teams. The season has flown by but great strides have been made to better ourselves and our team!
Varsity The varsity ended the regular season with 2 duals against Hinsdale Central and Downers Grove North. Some key highlights we Renwick WIlliams gutting out a great win against Hinsdale Central, Ernest Inglam and Danish Qureshi going 2 -0 on the week, and a great match between two #1 heavyweights Josh King and Matt Allen. The varsity goes into next weeks regional with high hopes of great success. We are hosting the regional at Hinsdale South on Saturday, February 6th.
JV The JV ended the season with 2 competative duals as well, but also competed in the JV level conference tournaments at York High School and at Hinsdale South. The JV2 team placed 13th at York with key contributions from Adam Zelazny and Donovan Washington. The JV1 team placed 4th out of 12 at Hinsdael South in the WSC invite, with place winners Matas Astrauskas, Will Hogan, and Lyzerax Hill taking 2nd place, Kyle Noyola and Tytus Sally taking 3rd place, and Tyvell White taking 5th place.
Freshman The freshman team went 1 and 1 in our duals this week against Hinsdale Central and DGN. They then went to compete in the WSC Freshman conference tourney at Lyons Township HS where they had 3 out of their 6 wrestlers bring home their wweight class championship. 1st place finishers were Keenan Stewart at 126lbs, Steve Farina at 195lbs and Alex Diaz at 285lbs.
What a great finish by all, the 2016 season comes to a close and the 2017 season is just beginning!
Week of January 18th
Varsity Varsity had a busy week and weekend wrestling 5 duals in 3 days. The week started off with a very competitive dual against DGS with standout performances from Ernest Inglam and Danish Qureshi. They then went right back at it Friday against Addison Trail losing a close one 45-30. They then finished up the weekend going 1 and 2 at the York quad losing to Stevenson and York early but beating Round Lake to finish off the weekend. Stars of the weekend included Mitch Mendel against York and Zach Zarubin against Stevenson.
JV JV kept things busy as well this week losing Thursday night to DGS but bouncing right back Friday nigh with a great win over Addison Trail. Star wrestlers from the duals included senior Lyzerax Hill and Tyvell White. They then went right into our JV invite at Hinsdale South taking 11th place with Matas Astrauskas taking 3rd place, Lyzerax Hill taking 2nd place and Tyvell White taking 4th place.
Freshman Freshman wrestled a couple of duals as well keeping things close against DGS losing 42-39 and then bouncing back and beating Addison Trail on friday 36-27. Key contributors to the win against Addison Trail were Alex Diaz at heavyweight, Steve Farina at 195lbs and Keenan Stewart who pinned his kid from Addison Trail in :22 seconds.

Week of January 11th
Varsity The varsity wrestling team had a busy weekend wrestling 3 duals in 2 days. Their first dual was Senior Night, Friday night against Proviso East. What a great night honoring our 2 senior statisticians Cassie Wroblewsky and Alyssa Borse and wrestlers Mitch Mendel, Ernest Inglam, Lyzerax Hill and Josh King, the team won 82-0. They then wrestled De La Salle and won 63-18 and then lost to wheeling 45-30 to finish the weekend. Congratulations Seniors!!
JV The JV wrestled Proviso East on Friday and won 20-0 with great wrestling by all participants! Their next competition is this Thursday against Downers Grove South at home.
Freshman The Freshman also wrestled Proviso East on Friday and won 36-12. They too will wrestle on Thursday night against Downers Grove South at home.
Week of January 4th
Varsity Varsity wrestled 4 tough duals this week starting with Leyden on thurday night. Wrestlers of that match included Bailey Zvonik with a great 6 minute match decision earing him his first varisty win, and Zach Zarubin with a pin in the 2nd period. We then went to the Lincoln Way Mega Duals and wrestled Bradley Bourbanias, Warren and Plainfield south. Wrestlers with key impacts were Will Hogan winning his first varsity match against Warren, Zach Zarubin going 3-0 on the day with 2 pins and a decision, and Danish Qureshi getting his first win back from injury against Bradley Bourbonais. Their next competition will be senior night this friday against Proviso East.
JV Wrestled very competitively versus Leyden as their only competition of the week, with wins out of Erik Sitkiweicz, Matas Astrauskas, and Lyzerix Hill. JV will be back in action next week against Proviso East at home on friday.
Freshman Freshman had a great win over leyden on thursday with wins from Steve Farina, Zach Lowery, and Mauricio Garza. They then took to the mat at the Rich South invitational earing a 5th place finish as as a team. Placers were Keenan Stewart and Steve Farina taking 1st, Zach Lowery and Mauricio Garza taking 3rd and Max Cilek taking 4th. They took will be back on the mat friday aagainst Proviso East
Week of December 28th
Varsity Varsity wrestling competed in the Berman Classic at Palatine HS over christsmas and finished 26th out of 33 teams. Highlights included Josh King winning the heavyweight division with a 7-2 decision over Matt Allen from hinsdale central.
JV JV wrestling competed in the Oswego East HS team dual tournament wrestling 4 duals in one day. Highlights included a 51-13 win over St. Francis HS to close out the day.
Freshman Freshman wrestling competed in our home tournament The Hornet Invite. Highlights included Steve Farina winning the 195lb weight class and Alex Diaz placing 2nd at heavyweight. The team finished 7th out of 11 teams. The programs next competition will be January 7th when we travel to Leyden HS for a competative conference dual.
Week of December 14th
All levels participated this weekend in some great duals and one of the best tournaments in the state.
Varsity The varsity competed in one of the best wrestling tournaments in the state the Rex Whitlach Tournament held at Hinsdale Central High School. While all wrestlers competed hard 7 our of the 10 made it into day 2 of competition with Danish Qureshi and Zach Zarubin making it to the medal stand. Danish took 4th and Zach took 5th. The varsity will compete in the Berman Holiday tournament on December 29th and 30th at Palatine High School. JV The JV team went 2-1 on the weekend winning duals against Waubonsie Valley and Batavia before giving up a loss to Dekalb at the Waubonsie quad. The JV will compete January 2nd as well at the Oswego Team Tournament.
Freshman The Freshman team went 1-2 winning a dual against Downers Grove North at our home freshman quad. Keenan Stewart stood out wrestling all three duals and going 3-0 on the weekend. The freshman will compete on January 2nd in our home Hornet Invitational.
Week of December 7th
Varsity Varsity wrestled some tough duals against Willowbrook, Glenbard West, Andrew and Naperville North this weekend. Some outstanding wrestlers were: Danish Qureshi 3-1 Ernest Inglam 2-2 Lyzerax Hill 2-2 The varsity will compete this weekend at the Hinsdale Central Whitlach Tournament both Friday and Saturday.
JV JV wrestled really well over the weekend with a win against Willowbrook 40-39 on friday night and placing 9 guys in the top 3 at the Hope Academy Tournament on Saturday. Champs were: Tytus Sally Matas Astrauskas Tyvell White Steve Farina and Christian Wroblewski
Freshman Freshman took home a win as well against Willowbrook on friday night by a score of 46-18. They also took 5th as a team at the Frosh/Soph Tournament at Wheaton North High School. Top placers were: Keenan Stewart 2nd place Max Cilek 2nd Place Alex Diaz 2nd place
Week of November 30th
All levels did a fantastic job wrestling against Morton this past Friday night. All levels wrestled with heart and pride, winning the head to head battles for their teams. Varsity wrestled a total of 10 matches and won 7 out of the 10 as a program highlight!

Week of November 23rd
Varsity Varsity wrestling got out of the gates pretty slow this season with 2 tough loses to Glenbard East and St. Rita. Highlights from those duals were our first season win by Ernest Inglam and his first ever Varsity win by freshman Renwick Williams. They then competed in the Barrington Tournament where Easa Arisitzabal lead the team with a record of 2 and 2, missing day 2 of competition by just one match. The team looks to get things rolling next week vs. Wheaton South, Morton and our home tournament The Matozzi Invite.
JV JV competed in some pretty tough duals against Glenbard East and St. Rita as well to get things off to a start, with Matas Astrauskas wrestling tough in 2 competative matches. The JV then took to the mats against Downers North, Grayslake North, and Highland Park, earning their first dual win against Highland Park by a score of 54-33. They too will compete this week against Wheaton South, Morton, and the HInsdale Central JV tournament this Saturday.
Freshman The freshman team got off to the best start of the season on Tuesday night beating both St. Rita and Mount Carmel before dropping their last dual to Glenbard East. They then took that momentum and rolled right into the weekend winning head to head matches against Hoffman Estates, Prospect and Bolingbrook by a total of 17-4. A team highlight included 9 matches head to head against Prospect with the Hornets winning all 9 matches! The freshman will wrestle Wheaton South and Morton this week before heading to the Andrew Invitational on Saturday.
