February 1 - On Monday the varsity traveled to Stardust Lanes for the West Suburban Conference Tournament. Senior Jaclyn Hofstetter was recognized for achieving All Academic and All Conference. Jaclyn was 4th in the conference with an average of 171. TaCoreya Clay was also recognized for All ACademic as a senior. Jennifer Griffin received the conference medal for the Hornets for having the high 6 game series at the tournament with the score of 866.
February 6 - Saturday was a very exciting day for the Hornets when they took 4th place out of 13 teams at the State Regionals to qualify onto the Sectionals on Saturday February 13. The Hornets came from behind to beat Hinsdale Central for the 4th place spot. A Lot of good bowling from several members on the team. Sara Cleghorn had her best 3 games series in the afternoon with a 468 beating her high 3 game series by 30 pins. Allison Early had a big 6th game with a 199. Jade Hines had her first game of 204 in competition and her best 6 game series of 874. Jaclyn Hofstetter had 2 games in the 200’s with her best 6 games series of the season of 996. Izzy Ruiz also had her first game of 202 in competition and best 6 game series of 979. We were so PROUD of the entire team including Diamond Hargrove and KP Puckett who were there in case we needed them. Also a big thanks to CoCo, Abbey, Emily, and Alissa for helping out for the meet and their support. Girls were Awesome!
Week of January 25th
Only a few matches this week as we wind down the girls bowling season. Monday January 25 the team competed in their last conference match of the year against the Morton Mustangs. We traveled to Morton’s home bowling center Striker Lanes which only has 12 lanes. The varsity tried there best but fell short by losing to the Mustangs by only 40 pins. Jaclyn Hofstetter led the Hornets’ with a series of 508. Some of the JV bowlers had their last meet of the season and we disappointed that the season is coming to a close. JV also was defeated but Kendalla Puckett was high scorer for the Hornet’s with a series of 387.
Thursday January 28 the JV2 bowlers west to Suburbanite Bowl for the JV Quigley Tournament. This tournament gives less skilled bowlers a chance to compete against members in the West Suburban Conference. Each member of the team was given a small bowling pin trophy with their high score of the tournament. Elise Anderson bowled her last game and had the highest game of this season and finally broke 100 in competition.
Saturday January 30 the varsity team traveled very early to Leyden for an 8:30 tournament at Brunswick Zone in River Grove and finished 4th in the eagle division. Jade Hines was the top bowler for the hornets with a 6 games series of 874 and came in 44th out of 120 bowlers. At the end of a long saturday the team visited the famous Gene and Judes for a delicious hot dog!
Week of January 18
On Monday, Martin Luther King, Jr Day, the Hornet Lady bowlers traveled to the Plainfield North Freshman/Sophomore Tournament. The Hornets brought some of their young talent to the invite and they were able to gain some valuable tournament experience. Sophomore Izzy Ruiz was able to have her best series of the season and finished with a 814 series for 6 games. Freshman Sara Cleghorn rolled a consistent series finishing with an 801. Sara also was 53 out of 140 bowlers for her first 3 game series. The Hornets finished in 22nd place out of 26 teams and steadily improved throughout the day.
On Tuesday, the Hinsdale South girls bowling team hosted the Downers Grove South Mustangs. It was senior night for the hornets and they recognized the contributions of the 4 senior members, Jaclyn Hofstetter, Jade Hines, TaCoreya Clay and Helena Gill. The varsity team put up one of their highest team totals of the season but the Mustangs bowled their best of the season and defeated the hornets 2832-2717. The varsity was led by Sophomore Allison Early who had a high game of 217 and the highest series on the team this season with a 563. The JV team also lost to the Mustangs but Helena Gill, a first year senior, bowled a season high game of 140.
Week of January 11
On Tuesday January 12th, the Hornet Girl’s Bowling Team hosted Lisle High School for a non-conference bowling meet. Lisle had only a varsity team so the competition was limited. The varsity girls bowled well and were able to beat Lisle 2542-2271. The team was led by sophomore Jennifer Griffin with a 554 series and a high game of 210.
On Friday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers hosted the Ed Puck Hornet Invite. This is a tournament that features 8 teams of 6 bowlers using the entire house at Willowbrook Lanes. The invite taxes the girls as each bowler bowls 6 games in a short 2 ½ hours. The Hornet Bowlers had a successful tournament with Jaclyn Hofstetter setting the pace with a medal winning high game of 198 in the first game.
On Saturday, the Hornet bowlers competed in the Fenton Tournament. The hornets were missing 3 of their strongest varsity bowlers so younger members filled in. The young bowlers were able to improve throughout the day but the hornets were only able to finish in 13th place. The Hornets were again led by Jaclyn Hofstetter who bowled a 983 in a 6 game series.
Week of January 4
The Hornet Lady Bowlers were competing right out of the gate in the new year. They traveled to Rolling Lanes to face Argo High School on the first day back from winter break. The match was only two games due to the bowling alley schedule. The Hornet varsity lost to Argo 1587-1289. The JV hornet bowlers were able to come up with a victory by beating the Argo JV 1262-1246.
On Tuesday, the Hornets hosted the Leyden Eagles at Willowbrook Lanes. This was the team’s first Big Sis/Little Sis event and the varsity girls responded by getting a much needed conference victory. The Hornets had a balanced team victory 2650-2609. The JV Lady Hornet Bowlers fell in a close match to Leyden 2008-1981.
The final competition of the week came on Thursday against Willowbrook. This was another conference match and the Hornets were looking to make a move in the West Suburban Conference. The team was really starting to improve and the Hornets posted their best scores of the season. The Varsity team defeated Willowbrook 2720-2597 and the JV team beat Willowbrook 2146-1937. The Hornet Varsity Lady Bowlers moved to 3-3 in conference and 4-4 overall and the JV team moved to 4-2 in conference and 5-3 overall.
Week of December 14
The new week started with the Lady Hornet bowlers taking on Downers Grove North. DGN is one of the stronger teams in the West Suburban Conference and the varsity team fell in a close match 2554-2336. This loss moved the Hornets to 1-3 in conference and 2-3 overall on the season. The JV hornets were able to squeak out a victory over DGN by a 1813-1807 score. This moved the JV Hornets to 3-1 in conference and 3-2 overall.
The week continued with 4 practices and no matches due to final exams. The girls were working very hard to improve their bowling as well as focusing on succeeding on finals. We concluded the week by having the annual Christmas party. The girls focused on sharing treats and doing a gift exchange while improving their skills. We also had some fun bowling a holiday fun funky bowl game using various partner shots and the opposite hand. It was a great time and the team is really starting to gel.
The week ended with the Varsity and JV bowlers competing at the West Aurora Invite. This was a great chance for the JV bowlers to bowl in an invite with the varsity teams. The varsity team was able to improve through the day and finish in 7th place. The JV team was doing well in the morning, but they started to fade in the afternoon finishing in 8th place.
Week of December 7
On Monday, the Hornet Girl’s Bowling Team hosted the Hinsdale Central Red Devils for a conference bowling meet. The team had only one meet under their belts at this point and were excited to begin their conference season. The varsity girls bowled well but ultimately lost to Hinsdale Central 2771-2427. The team was led by senior Jaclyn Hofstetter with a 537. The Hornet JV bowlers were able to beat the Central JV team by a score of 1957-1758. It was a great first win for the JV team which was made up of 4 sophomores and 6 freshmen.
On Tuesday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers traveled to Wood Dale bowl to face the Addison Trail Blazers. This was another conference match for the team and the Hornet Varsity bowlers were able to pick up their first conference win by a 2323-2086 score. The team was again led by Senior Jaclyn Hofstetter with a 536 series. The JV Hornet bowlers were also able to get a win as they defeated the Blazers 1568-1419.
On Thursday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers traveled to Start Dust Bowl to face the York Dukes. York is an incredibly strong team and they were able to defeat the Hornet Varsity by a score 2833-2304. The Hornet varsity struggled a little with their third match in the week, but they were able to tough it out and compete. The JV lady hornets were also defeated by a score of 1949-1666. It was a solid showing for the young JV team as they fought hard.
On Saturday, the Hornet Lady Bowlers completed a grueling week by competing in the Strikefest Tournament. This is one of the premier tournaments in Illinois with most of the top teams in the state competing. The Hornets were without some of their most experienced bowlers and they struggled against the stiff competition. It was a great learning experience for the young Hornet Bowlers but they finished in 44th place.
Week of November 30
On Thursday December 3rd, The girls had their first dual match competition against Fenton Bison. We had a great outing which consisted of 5 bowlers with our varsity team defeating Fenton 1991 to 1872. Jaclyn Hofstetter was our top varsity bowler with a 3 games series of 463. The JV team had a strong showing but was not able to get the win. The top JV bowler was Jewel Wiley with a 3 game series score of 313. We were very proud of the sportsmanship and effort of our team. On Saturday December 5th Joliet Central High School had a JV Steelman Tournament. This was the first tournament for 7 of our sophomore/freshman bowlers KP Puckett, Autumn Clay, Elise Anderson, Abbey Mathis, Melissa McQuillan, Alissa Banks, and Emily Collins. The Hornets came in 6th place. Congrats to Elise Anderson with her first turkey and Abbey ,Alissa, Elise, and Melissa for bowling there first game over 100.
Week of November 23
Varsity The Hornet Girls Bowling team is in a rebuilding year with 18 members and 11 of them are new to the team (2 seniors, 2 sophomores, and 7 freshman. The Hornets bowling team competed in the Plainfield Central Wildcat Invite after their first 2 weeks of practice. This was the first competition for all of the girls, so we used this as a learning experience. The girl’s took 20th out of 24 teams. Senior Jaclyn Hofstetter had top series with a 991 for 6 games, followed by senior Jade Hines 783, and Allison Early 748. Freshman Sara Cleghorn had a taste of her first tournament totaling 734 and came in 95th out of 120 bowlers.
