Monday, September 30th vs. Glenbard South This week the Hornets returned back to the home field for three games. It started off with facing Glenbard South winning 24-6. During the first half juniors Kennedy Ruff and Emilija Sinkevicious scored the two touchdowns giving a 16-0 lead. Glenbard South responded with an interception, which was ran down by Kennedy. Kennedy with the help of QB Callie Carr made a 60 yard catch. On the defensive end, junior Dulce Serna blocked the ball mid air, made an interception, and made several run downs stopping the opposing players. Then, Kamiyah and Tejiyha Jones, along with Karsen Smith, and Briasia Satterfield worked like a well oiled machine blocking passes and not letting any opposing player past 10 yards. However, Glenbard was able to squeeze out one touchdown but that didn’t stop Kennedy Ruff from accomplishing another touchdown with Callie Carr running a successful 2 point conversion.
Wednesday, October 2nd vs. Addison Trail The second game of the week was a wonderful senior night, highlighting some great accomplishments. The Hornets faced a tough Addison Trail. Although it was a 6-26 loss, the hard work the girls put in was the real win. Junior Autumn Lambke scored a touchdown within the first 15 minutes of the game. Addison Trail scored three touchdowns in the first half, but juniors Sloane Keifer and Dulcer Serna persevered keeping their head high pulling flags and blocking. Sophomore Tejiyha Jones had multiple successful blocks, along with sophomore Briasia Satterfield. Addison Trail was able to get one more touchdown during the second half, however that didn’t stop junior Callie Carr with two over 30 yard runs impressing the audience. This game was a test for the girls, but it gave them strength and the motivation for their next game.
Friday, October 4th vs. Hillcrest The last game of the week which took place on friday against Hillcrest with an exciting game ending in a 48-30 win! Starting off the game, junior Emilija Sinkevious had not one, but two touchdowns, helped by junior Kennedy Ruff making the two point conversions. During the second half Kennedy and Emilija both scored more touchdowns racking up the score. Junior and QB Callie Carr also had a successful touchdown, along with impressive throws down field. Hillcrest scored three touchdowns within the first half, but the Hornet answered back with 6 interceptions! These incredible plays featured Briasia Satterfield with one, Kennedy Ruff with two, and Ka’miyah Spuril with three! It was an incredible day for defense. Senior Kayla Buckels-Meen and junior Dulce Serna worked as one pulling flags left and right refusing to let any opposing player through. In the second half Hillcrest pushed out one last touchdown, but it motivated the girls even more. Junior Lilly Davy was subbed in for QB and made her mark. She had multiple successful throws leading to the victorious outcome. This week proved tough for the Hornets, but their determination and perseverance displayed why they are a force on and off the field!
Week of September 23rd
This week was a challenging one for the team, however they proved they are the dream team coming out another 2 win week.
Tuesday, September 24th vs. Joliet West This week started off at Joliet West finishing 34-22. The first half was filled with high triumphs featuring quarterback Callie Carr making a running touchdown, displaying she is untouchable. Junior Sloane Keifer then made an incredible interception followed by a 66 yard touchdown, and would later make another interception during the first half. Then, juniors Kennedy Ruff and Emilija Sinkevicious scored two more touchdowns, with the help of Mikya Benson making an amazing two point conversion catch. During this half defensive players Briasia Satterfield, Tejiyha Jones, and Kayla Buckles-Meen let up zero points for the other team, pulling flags in the first ten yards. The second half was a test of spirit for the Hornets, as Joliet West scored three touchdowns and made successful two point conversions giving them 22 points by the end. However, that did not diminish the team as Callie Carr, once again, ran a successful touchdown securing the win. The highlights of the defense was Ka’miyah Spuril and Tamiyha Jones getting flags down and refusing to slow down in order to get the opposing players.
Thursday, September 26th vs. Oswego The second half of the week was spent facing Owego High School, which ended in a 34-8 win. This was the shortest game yet, not even breaking 45 minutes. The first half did not start off the Hornets favor as Oswego ran a touchdown, but in response Emilija Sinkevicious made lots of ground running 20 yards perfectly setting up Kennedy Ruff for a touchdown. Senior Kayla Buckels-Meen and Sophomore Briasia Satterfield didn’t let up the rest of the half, by getting flags down within the first five yards. Ka’miyah Spuril and Tejiyha Jones also worked together to create unbreakable defensive walls which blocked Oswego’s offense effectively. Throughout the second half, Senior Clarisse LeFlore had some incredible rushes of the opposing quarterback forcing inaccurate throws, and one successful rush down. The Jones sisters, Tejiyha and Tamiyha, worked together again shutting down Oswego’s offense, helped by Juniors Briasia Sattefeild and Ka’miyah Spuril. On the other hand, the Hornet offense was a weapon on the field. Juniors Callie Carr, Kennedy Ruff, Sloane Kiefer, and Emilija Sinkevious all scored amazing touchdowns securing the big win. Another successful week for the hornets proving they are unstoppable in this game!
Week of September 16th
Another fantastic week for the lady hornets as they secure two more wins! This brings them to a 5 game winning streak!
Monday, September 16th vs. Fenton The week started off with the first away game of the season at Fenton High School with an ending score of 18-6. Defense was on fire in this game featuring freshman Tejiyha and Tamiyha Jones, sophomore Briasia Satterfield, juniors Dulce Serna and Sloana Keifer, and senior Clarrisse LeFlore. Clarrisse and Temiyha kept up a tight game rushing the quarterback forcing inaccurate throws, working in our favor. Although Fenton was able to score one touchdown, Sloane Kiefer answered with an interception, followed by another one made by Dulce Serna. Tejiyha displayed her intensity by pulling flags within the first 10 yards of a play. On the offensive side of the game, great passes and runs were made by quarterback Callie Carr, and juniors Emilija Sinkevicious, Kennedy Ruff, and Siena Dryan. Kennedy scored two out of the three touchdowns, helped by Emilija making multiple 25 yard runs to gain ground. Siena also scored a wonderful touchdown. Overall a very incredible game!
Thursday, September 19th vs. Morton Later in the week, the Hornets faced off against Morton shutting them down with a 20-6 win. During the first half the offense made magnificent plays! Junior Emilija Sinkevicious did not come to lose as she made a 60 yard touchdown dodging the entire Morton team. Attaining more points, Kennedy Ruff added two more touchdowns followed by junior Autumn Lambke making two point conversions, which set the tone for the success of the game. But, what made the game a miraculous sight was the defense. During the first half, sophomore Briasia Satterfield maintained her signature style of pulling flags within the first five yards of a pass, followed by her running down the field catching opposing players. Freshman sisters Tamiyha and Tejiyha Jones put their minds together and worked to create a defensive block ending the half. At the beginning of the second half, play after play was made making it impossible for the Morton offense to infiltrate the Hornet defense. Freshman Karsen Smith, Juniors Sloane Kiefer and Zooey Allen, and Senior Kayla Buckels-Meen worked seamlessly together pulling flags left and right, along with blocking passes fearlessly. Sloane secured another interception, and Karsen proved she was a force to be reckoned with as she produced excellent rushing of the quarterback. Morton was able to score a touchdown, but Ka’maiyah Spuril never let that happen again with getting flags down. This game was a true testament to the Hornets talent and their amazing teamwork.
Week of September 9th
Monday, September 9th vs. Conant Another great week for the Hornet securing two wins. The week started with a face off against Conant HS taking home a win of 36-6. The offense displayed some complex plays by juniors Kennedy Ruff leading the team with three touchdowns, followed by Siena Drynan, Autumn Lambke, and Emilija Sinkevicius with one touchdown each, as well as incredible twenty yard catches. Callie Carr stayed on her A-game with accurate throws down field. The defense let up zero points in the first half. Junior Sloane Keifer and Sophomore Briasia Satterfield upheld a defensive wall on the field pulling flags within the first ten yards. During the second half, Conant answered back with a touchdown, but failed to receive the two point conversion. In spite of that, Sophomores Delaney Micheals and Briasia Satterfield were relentless in stopping Conant’s offense with multiple blocks. Both offense and defense were determined which led to the victory.
Thursday, September 12th vs. Rosary Later in the week, the Hornets faced off against Rosary, and took home a 30-0 win. The game started with a 40 yard interception by junior Kennedy Ruff who led the team with two touchdowns, along with Siena Dryan, Autumn Lambke and Emilija Sinkevicius. Much ground was made on the field featuring Juniors Melina Plavuj and Callie Carr making 20 yard runs. The defense let up zero runs with Juniors Dulce Serna and Zoey Alllen shutting down Rosary in the first half, followed by Briasia Satterfield taking down Rosary’s offense within the first ten yards of a play. The team worked together as one displaying great teamwork on both sides of the ball to win.
Week of September 2nd
Tuesday, September 3rd vs. Hinsdale Central The Hornets had a great week facing two West Suburban Conference Teams, Hinsdale Central and Lyons Township. The week started with a BIG win over Hinsdale Central 48-0. The offense had some big plays by Callie Carr, Kennedy Ruff, Alexis Kuhlman, Janelle Lewis and Emilija Sinkevicius. Coach Rounce’s defense had their first shutout limiting the Red Devils to three completed passes. Juniors Sloane Kiefer and Dulce Serna led the team from the back and kept the energy high for the defensive line. Great teamwork and communication led to limiting the Red Devils pass completion, and stopped them from gaining any momentum. Thursday, September 5th vs. Lyons Township The Hornets had a quick turn around and faced Lyons Township on Thursday, Sept. 5th. The offense came out strong and scored on their first drive. LT answered back with a touchdown before half-time. It was a hard fought battle on both sides of the ball but LT ended up winning 22 - 8. Great offensive performances by Autumn Lambke, Siena Dryman and Emilija Sinkevicius. On the defensive side, Junior Zoey Allen came in shaking things up immediately with a great pull to stop the momentum. Senior Kayla Buckels-Meen had three fantastic stops in a row shutting down the wide receivers back to back to back. A great defensive effort overall, and wonderful teamwork as always.
Week of August 26th
Hornets started their inaugural season with two non-conference teams, Stagg HS on Aug. 28th and Romeoville HS on Aug. 30th. Both experienced teams played tough and the Hornets stayed with them step for step. Although the outcome of both games were not in the Hornets favor, the team is learning and adjusting to a fast paced game. The Lady Hornets had some outstanding offensive performances by Callie Carr at quarterback, Kennedy Ruff at wide receiver and Melina Plavulj at center. Defensively, the majority of the players are underclassmen, and each play with grit and passion. Sophomore Bri Satterfield stepped up from the very first whistle and played like a veteran, immediately taking on a leadership role. Juniors Sloane Kieffer and Dulce Serna led the defense with class, and executed excellent communication from the back. The Hornets look forward to hosting two West Suburban Conference games this week against Hinsdale Central on Tuesday, Sept. 3rd and Lyon Township on Sept. 5th. #SouthPride!
