2025-2026 Girls Wrestling Weekly Highlights

Week of February 2nd

This past Friday and Saturday the Girls Wrestling team competed at the IHSA Regional Wrestling tournament in East Aurora. The competition had 30 teams and some very fierce competition. This was the biggest Regional in IHSA Wrestling history for Boys and Girls. Our girls wrestled tough both days and 5 out of 8 girls made it to day two of the competition. Senior Callie Carr took 1st place in the Regional and qualified for Sectionals by pinning all of her opponents in the first period. Congratulations to Callie and Good Luck next weekend in Schaumburg. 

Week of January 19th

​This week the Girls Wrestling team had the Conference tournament at Addison Trail High School. We had three girls place in the top four and receive All Conference Awards: Giana Storino took 4th place at 105 pounds, Zoey Allen took 3rd Place at 190 pounds, and Callie Carr took 1st Place at 155 pounds. In addition, Callie Carr is the first 4 time 1st Place Conference Winner in Hinsdale South Wrestling History!!  

Week of January 12th

This week the Hornets took on Downers Grove North and Downers Grove South in their Conference Tri meet. The girls won 3 of 4 matches vs DGN. Against the mustangs, the Hornets won 5 of 6 matches. Seniors Melina Plavulj and Callie Carr won both of the matches for the evening. On Friday the Girls' Wrestling team faced Morton for Senior Night under the lights. We celebrated our 6 Senior women: Vanesa Gjelaj, Melina Plavujl, Abigail Alonso, Charis Aquino, Callie Carr and Zoey Allen. In the rematch, the seniors came out Big with all wins!!! Vanessa, Abigail, Zoey all scored pins, while Melina beat her opponent with a score of 14-10 and  Callie received a Tech Fall outscoring her opponent 18-3 in the first period. Congratulations to all of the Seniors. 

Week of January 5th

This week we had a West Suburban Conference Tri meet at Proviso West on Wednesday. We beat Proviso West 42-6 and tied with Leyden 30-30. Senior Callie Carr scored her 100th Varsity win against Leyden!!! All 5 girls pinned their opponents from Proviso for the clean sweep. On Saturday the team participated at the Conant Girl's Invite where close to 500 girls wrestled in a variety of leveled brackets. Calie Carr took first place at 155 pounds in the top bracket. Gianna Storino and Dayana Fields both took second place. Juliana Loynes and Zoey Allen all took 3rd place. Abigail Alonso took 4th Place. Melina Plavulj took 7th place and Vanesa Gjelaj took 8th place.  

Week of December 22nd

On Tuesday the Girls Wrestling team competed at the Sally Berman tournament hosted by Palatine High School. This tournament was composed of 24 teams. Senior Callie Carr took 1st place in the 155 pound weight class. Freshman Juliana Loynes took 4th place in the 135 pound weight class. In addition, Zoey Allen and Dayana Fields were one win short of placing in the top 8 of their respective weight classes. After a coaches vote, Senior Callie Carr was chosen as Wrestler of the Tournament! 

Week December 15th

On Wednesday 12/17 the Girls Wrestling Program had their first Home Tri against Morton and Glenbard West.  Against the seasoned Morton team the girls won 6 out of 7 matches, 5 of those coming by pin fall. Against the Hilltoppers from Glenbard West the girls won 2 out of 5 matches. Giana Storino won both of her matches by pin fall, Callie car won 2 matches by pin fall and received a Fft and Zoey Allen won both of her matches by quick pins in the first period. 

Week of December 8th

This week the South Girls Wrestling team traveled to Andrew for a Quad on Wednesday. Senior Callie Carr pinned all 3 of her opponents from Naperville North, Andrew and TF South. Juliana Loyne received her first two wins of the season going 2 for 2 for the evening. Gianna Storino won 2 of her 3 matches by pin. The Hornets won two of the 3 duals for the evening thanks to their strong showings. 

On Saturday the team took on the Sandy Gussasrson all day Tournament in Antioch. Each of our 8 wrestlers had 5 matches! Callie Carr got a repeat 1st Place pinning all 5 of her opponents in the first period. Freshman Gianna Storino at 105 and Juliana Loyne at 135 both received 4th place awards in their weight classes. Senior Vanesa Gjelaj and Sophomore Dayana Fields both had 3 pins, scoring them both a 3-2 record for the day. 

Week of December 1st

This week the Hornet Girls Wrestlers had their first Conference Tri-meet at Addison Trail. Senior State Champion Callie Carr won both of her matches in the first period making her record 3-0. Senior newcomer Abigail Alonso also won both of her matches by pin fall. Vanesa Gjelaj, Gianna Storino, Melina Plavulj, Zoey Allen and Charis Aquino all won one by pin and lost one making a strong showing for the evening. The team continues to grow and learn with each match. 

Week of November 24th

On Tuesday 11/25 the Hornets Girls wrestling team competed in their season opening Dual meet vs our sister school Hinsdale Central. The team won 3 out 5 matches for the evening. Gianna Storino pinned her opponent in the first period, Vanesa Gjelaj pinned her opponent in the first period and returning State Champ Callie Carr beat her opponent by a Technical fall scoring 20 points in the first period. It was a great first night for the team.
