Varsity On Wednesday, the Hornets started regionals against Mansueto. The team was fired up and ready to go. We created chances at the beginning of the game, but all were saved by Mansueto’s goalie. Audrey Atkinson stole the ball around the 30 and chipped a long shot in over the goalie’s head. Grace Raatz dribbled the ball down the left sideline and crossed it to Grace Cvengros who poked the ball in the goal to score our second goal of the game. Grace Raatz generated more offensive plays for our team with another serve that was saved by the other team’s goalie but she gave up a rebound that Audrey scored! Keely Sullivan played a long ball out of the backline over the top of Mansueto’s backline to Audrey who used her speed to get into the box. Then Audrey made a cross to Grace Cvengros instead of shooting and assisted Grace Cvengros’s second goal of the game. Our fifth goal of the game came from a free kick from Belle Camacho who played the ball in to Audrey and she scored! This earned Audrey a hat trick for the game and brought the score at halftime to 5 – 0. During the second half a small defensive mistake allowed Mansueto their only goal of the game from a cross to a player on the back post that was open. This didn’t stop our team from moving forward and continuing to play. Zia Karim played a through ball to Makena Camden that she shot low and past the goalie scoring her first goal of the game! Our next goal came from a cross from Grace Cvengros to Deirdre Cranley who shot high and scored our 7th goal of the game. Makena scored her second goal of the game on a pass from Audrey. The Hornets ended the season 9 – 11 and 3 – 3 in conference which earned us 4th place in the conference. We are so thankful for our 8 seniors and all of their hard work and dedication they have given over the last 4 years!

Week of May 2nd Varsity This week the Hornets continued conference play with a game on Tuesday against Willowbrook. An early goal from Willowbrook really woke up the Hornets. Our back line led by Tessa Frank, Olivia Fulton, Belle Camacho and Tian Schulte held a high line to force Willowbrook offsides numerous times during the first half. This really halted Willowbrook’s offensive attacks. A horrible missed offsides call from the side line referee allowed Willowbrook their second goal of the game lowering our spirits of coming back. Late in the game Sarah Tauber crossed the ball to Audrey Atkinson who shot and the goalie deflected the ball, Amelia Lavorato got the rebound and scored our only goal of the game. The team worked hard all game until the last second. Unfortunately the Hornets lost 1 – 5.
Later in the week the Hornets had another conference game against DGS. The backline once again held a high line to force DGS into an offsides trap and throw them off of their game. Makena Camden did a great job winning the ball in the middle of the field. The Hornets were tied 0 – 0 at the end of the first half. After a hard fought game the final score was 1 – 4. Then during the second half Leyden scored first which gave them momentum and they scored again making the score 1 – 2 in Leyden’s favor. Our girls had to work extremely hard to now score multiple times to be able to win the game while Leyden had more players sitting back on defense. Audrey Atkinson was everywhere on the field trying to win the ball and score goals. Our backline kept a high line at half to help keep pressure on Leyden. Keely Sullivan took a free kick near the right corner that she placed in the box and Audrey Atkinson scored our second goal of the game and tie the game! With only a few minutes left in the game, Belle Camacho took a corner kick that was perfect, but none of our girls in the box could find it to place it in the net. Luckily, we earned a second corner kick right after that. Belle scored off of her corner kick this time putting us in the lead 3 – 2.
