Varsity On Tuesday the Hornets started playoffs with the first regional game against Chicago Hancock. The girls combined tons of passes and created some chances on goal but a few offsides calls prevented us from scoring. During the first half Olivia Fulton played a through ball to Grace Cvengros who passed the ball to Grace Raatz who scored our first goal of the game! The first goal allowed our girls to settle down a little and play our game which helped us keep scoring! Our second goal of the game was scored by Grace Cvengros on a pass from Elena Mazurek. Then Grace Cvengros scored another goal on a through ball from Makena Camden. The team was on fire! Elena Mazurek played another through ball to Charlotte Old who scored her first varsity goal of the season! Next up was Makena Camden who scored the fifth goal of the game from a pass from Sarah Tauber. The Hornets were leading 5-0 at halftime. We came out ready to continue our goal scoring from the first half. Elena Mazurek scored the first goal of the second half on a pass from Grace Raatz. Then Elena passed to Grace Cvengros who scored her third goal of the game! Elena Mazurek then played a through ball to Ellie Urbanski who scored right after we moved her up into the midfield. Our last goal of the game was scored by Sarah Tauber. The Hornets won the game 9-1 and are headed to the grip all final game on Friday! Our players of the game were Olivia Fulton for her assist and great work on defense and Charlotte Old for scoring her first goal!
On Friday the Hornets played in the regional final game against St. Ignatius. We had the kick off and used this to get forward right away and attack the goal. Makena Camden played the ball and Grace Raatz, Grace Cvengros and Elena Mazurek all ran onto it and combined a few passes to get past their defense. Ellie Urbanski and Tessa Frank did a great job of stepping up and winning the ball all game from the other team. They even played a few long balls down line that we could run onto. Elena Mazurek played great at outside mid and also at center mid winning the ball for her team and connecting passes. Madison Arflack made great saves throughout the game. Tati Eicker came back from an injury this season and played her position at center back as if she hadn’t missed a game. She did an excellent job organizing the defense and making sure we held a tight line to force them offsides multiple times. Unfortunately we lost 0-4 which ended our season, but the girls played hard until the last second. Our players of the game were our four seniors Ellie Urbanski, Elena Mazurek, Madison Arflack, and Tati Eicker for their passion for the game of soccer, their great leadership as captains this season, and dedication to our Hornet Soccer program for 4 years.
The team ended the season with a record of 7-9. Ellie Urbanski was named to the All-Sectional Team and Elena Mazurek was All-Sectional honorable mention. We are proud of the girls for everything they accomplished this year and all of the injuries they pushed through to play for their team all season.

Makena Camden did an excellent job winning the ball in the center mid position and distributing to her teammates. Grace Raatz and Grace Cvengros connected passes to each other to create changes that we unfortunately couldn’t finish. Ellie Urbanski led our defense by keeping things organized and constantly winning the ball. Tessa Frank did a great job with her throw ins to get the ball in play and stepping up to win the ball. The team played a great first half with the score at halftime 0-1. The second half didn’t go our way and we conceded 3 goals. Elena Mazurek stepped up to be our goalie for the game because of a red card on Madison Arflack from the previous game. Elena Mazurek did a great job throughout the entire game and made multiple saves! The Hornets lost the game 0-4. Our player of the game was Tessa Frank for her great plays on defense.
The Hornets played their last regular season game against Leyden. The girls came out with a slow start but as the half went on we started picking up speed and connecting some passes. Makena Camden, Deirdre Cranley, and Grace Cvengros put pressure on Leyden’s defense and forced them to have a hand ball in the box that earned us a PK. Ellie Urbanski stepped up and score the PK with a perfectly placed shot! The Hornets did a better job combining passes from our back line with some series of passes between Belle Camacho, Deirdre Cranley, Makena Camden, Grace Raatz and Elena Mazurek. Grace Raatz won the ball and beat a few girls, then passed it perfectly to Grace Cvengros who made one move to get past her defender and shot with her left foot and scored our second goal of the game. Immediately after we scored our second goal, Leyden scored on us on a mistake. The team continued to work hard for the rest of the game and tried to create chances on goal but many went straight to the goalie. Our players of the game were Grace Raatz and Grace Cvengros for their beautiful goal in the first half and their speed and creativity throughout the entire game! The Hornets won 2-1!
Sophomore/JV School is out! But the Hornets were still ready to play. After missing some key players due to vacations we had some other players step up this week, especially in the goalkeeper position!
Tuesday, the Hornets traveled to Morton West and fought hard to end in a 2-2 draw. With 2 goals from Amelia Lavorato, one in the first half, and one off of an indirect free kick and pass from Keira Hagen, the Hornets fought hard and played a physical game. Maddie Mulligan had a great save to push the ball over the cross bar to save us from a loss.
Our final game of the season was Thursday in 50 degree rain! The girls were tough and started the game the best we have started any game this season. We passed as a team and looked really strong, we just could not put the ball in the net! Without a goalie for this game, thank you to Mackenzie Waite and Hailey Borglin for stepping up and playing in goal! Taylor Lehmann played at forward and had her first shot on goal. Despite our possession of the majority of the game, we lost 2-0. We were the better team on the day but just couldn’t score. We have learned a lot this season and had a lot of fun!
We finished the year with 4 wins, 7 losses, and 1 tie. Looking forward to another year with our Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshman.

Varsity This week the Hornets continued conference play with our second round against each of our conference teams. Our first game was on Tuesday away against DGS. We adjusted our game plan to prepare for DGS since we had already seen their offense. Deirdre Cranley stepped up to defend one of their forwards and really put good defensive pressure on her and made her play the ball backwards. Ellie Urbanski made a big defensive play in the first half to save a goal and keep the score at 0-0. Ellie and Belle Camacho did a great job talking to their teammates and keeping the back line organized. The girls played tough and made some good clears throughout the half but struggled to connect passes. A mistake in the back led to DGS’s first goal of the game but the girls didn’t let down. We regrouped at half and started the second half with some energy but an early goal didn’t help. Grace Cvengros and Makena Camden won the ball in the midfield and tried to get some plays going with Grace Raatz and Zia Karim. Elena Mazurek distributed passed to her teammates and won the ball out of the air to keep the ball on DGS’s half. It was a tough game for the team and ended with a 0-5 loss.
On Thursday the Hornets continued their second round of conference play against Addison Trail. A very slow start allowed Addison trail their first goal of the game which sparked some energy from the Hornets. Makena Camden took multiple shots at the top of the box. Belle Camacho got involved in the offense on the right side but we couldn’t get on the end of her crosses and through balls. Finally, Makena Camden and Grace Raatz passed the ball to Elena Mazurek who scored our first goal of the game. Tied at half the Hornets were not going to give up. We were ready to start the second half fired up but Addison trail made a change that messed up our defense and allowed them their second goal. Losing 1-2, the girls knew they had to work harder to try and score more goals. Makena Camden took a corner kick and placed the ball perfectly for Elena Mazurek to score our second goal and tied the game 2-2. We kept the pressure up and on another assisted from Makena Camden, Kiera Hagen received the ball just outside of their box and shot and scored a beautiful goal! We were now winning 3-2 and had to make sure that they couldn’t score. Addison trail was putting all of their players high which allowed Grace Cvengros to pass the ball through to Grace Raatz who beat the goalie and scored! Very shortly after that Makena Camden found that same through ball and passed to Grace Cvengros who also beat the goalie and scored! The Hornets won 5-2! Our player of the game was Grace Raatz who worked hard all game and played the entire game!
Our third game of the week was on Saturday in the rain against Willowbrook. Our goal was the have a much closer game than the last time we played them. Our girls did a great job defending during the first half. Ellie Urbanski stepped up many times to steal the ball from their team and Deirdre Cranley did a great job marking one of their best players. A bad call earned Willowbrook a PKand put them ahead 1-0. Our team did not let down. Makena Camden and Elena Mazurek did a great job getting back on defense to win the ball and then start our attacks. Elena Mazurek made a great cross that Grace Raatz headed into the goal! We had tied the game 1-1. Shortly after that Willowbrook scored again. At halftime the score was 1-2 so we got fired back up and got ready to try and win the game in the second half. The girls played hard in the second half and kept trying to creat chances for our team to score. Sarah Tauber played a great through ball to Grace Raatz who shot and followed her rebound to score her second goal of the game and tie the game 2-2. Then they had a great shot that Madison Arflack made an amazing save on to keep the game tied! Unfortunately Willowbrook score again off of a free kick to put them back ahead. We decided to push up the field on our last corner of the game and a few mistakes allowed Willowbrook another goal. We ended the game with 2-4. Our player of the game Grace Raatz who used her speed and technical skills to score 2 goals and who continually put pressure on Willowbrook’s defense.

The girls came out ready to play and had a shot on Leyden within the first few minutes of the game. After a long first half the Hornets finally scored on a cross from Makena Camden to Elena Mazurek who ran in front of her defender to score front post and put the Hornets ahead 1-0. Early on in the second half Leyden was giving a free kick just past half. They connected and served the ball in to score and tie the game. Our girls knew they had to work harder to try and get back in the lead. We got a free kick that Ellie Urbanski served into the box and Elena Maruzek scored! Unfortunately the ref called back the goal due to offsides, but the girls kept the pressure on Leyden. Grace Cvengros and Makena Camden put tons of pressure on Leyden’s defense and caused them a hand ball in their box to earn us a PK. Ellie Urbanski stepped up to take the PK and score to put us back in the lead 2-1. Near the end of the game we earned a corner kick that Belle Camacho passed to Elena Mazurek who gave it back to Belle Camacho and she took a shot and scored our third goal of the game! The next opponent the Hornets faced was Willowbrook on Thursday. The Hornets lost 0 – 5 but there were some positives from the game! Deirdre Cranley was very energetic and always on her toes ready for the next play. She applied what we had been working on in practice the previous day to generate some offense. Madison Arflack had 14 saves preventing so many scoring chances and helped encourage her teammates and help the defense get organized. Olivia Fulton was really tough during the game and started getting involved in the offense as an outside back during the end of the second half. Ellie Urbanski helped our defense out by playing center back and calming things down to connect passes. Elena Mazurek had one of our best chances of the game from a corner by Belle Camacho that Elena shot and hit the cross bar. As a team, there were a lot of outside passes to our wingers to bring the ball up the field which led to a few chances for crosses into the box. Our player of the game was Elena Mazurek for her hard work throughout the entire game, consistently winning the ball, and doing everything she could to try and score.
Next up the Hornets played Addison Trail on Saturday. The Hornets started out the game pressuring AT’s defense with a few shots early on in the half. Late in the half Grace Cvengros scored our first goal of the game by dribbling past her defenders taking a great shot! Then in the second half the Hornets continued to generate offense and create opportunities for goals. Our next goal was a great pass from Zia Karim to Deirdre Cranley who scored our second goal of the game. Tian Schulte gave us great energy on the outside wing to win the ball and connect with her teammates. Deirdre Cranley never stopped running when she was in and helped create our third goal of the game by passing to Grace Cvengros who shot and scored her second goal of the game and the team’s third goal. Elena Mazurek continually won the ball in the midfield to prevent AT from generating any offense. Zia Karim continued to do a great job in the midfield and followed up on a shot to the goalie that got loose and because of this Grace Cvengros was able to score our team’s fourth goal of the game and Grace’s third. The Hornets won the game 4 – 0 and our player of the game was Grace Cvengros for her hard work throughout the game and for scoring a hat trick!

Anyways, the girls fought hard and were down 2-0 for most of the game. At the end Leslie Cervantes scored a late goal to make it 2-1, but we ran out of time. Glenbard West put lots of pressure on our defense and the girls stepped up to defend their goal. Many great clears were made by Tati Eicker and Belle Camacho. The Hornets were down 2-0 at half time, but they didn’t give up. We tried to generate some offensive attacks with the help of Ellie Urbanski, Elena Mazurek, Grace Raatz and Sarah Tauber. Grace Cvengros nearly scored in their box when she fearlessly went in the box to score and collided with their goalie. Deirdre Cranley did an excellent job in the second half of shutting down one of Glenbard West’s best players to prevent her from scoring. The Hornets played their third game of the week against DGS. The girls played a great first half of the game. Our defense led by Tati Eicker, Tessa Frank, Olivia Fulton and Belle Camacho played in a new formation and were doing a great job of stepping up and winning the ball near half instead of dropping back and having to defend closer to our box. Madison Arflack made multiple saves to keep the score tied at 0-0. It was a hot day and a few injuries required a lot of subbing for our team. Mia Yen and Sarah Tauber played great on the wings for us and connected passes with Ellie Urbanski and Elena Mazurek to try to generate some offense for us. Grace Cvengros and Charlotte Old put pressure on DGS’s defense to try and cause a turnover that would allow us a chance to score. Our defense was put under a lot of pressure during the second half and we couldn’t hold off their attacks. With multiple players injured our girls were tired and we were low on substitutes. The Hornets played with everything they had till the final second of the game and unfortunately ended with a 0-3 loss. Our player of the game was Ellie Urbanski for her great play in the midfield and stepping up in the second half to play center back when her teammate was injured.
