This was a great week for the Hornets! Hinsdale South Men’s Swimming won its 31st Conference title, with a win in the conference meet to tie for the conference championship with both Downers Grove South and Addison Trail/Willowbrook. EVERYONE had season best times this meet, with notable swims by all. James Kiwiet was All-Conference in BOTH swimming and diving; a first for Hinsdale South. Everyone stepped and did their job, ending in an outstanding team performance. Man of the Meet was Senior Captain Matt Delgado.
Week of January 9th
This week the Hornets faced off against Addison Trail/Willowbrook Co-op. Varsity lost by 8 points with a final of 81-89. Frosh/Soph won with a final score of 83-31. Notable swims were recorded by Joe Ofenloch, Matt Delgado, James Kiwiet and Charlie Nilles on the Frosh/Soph level. On Saturday, James Kiwiet and Payton Hultmark competed in the HC Red Devil Diving Invite at Glenbrook North High School. James finished 29th overall with state-level competition.Coming up the Hornets swim Leyden this Friday, while the divers compete at the Lockport Invite. On Saturday, the swimmers compete at Lockport in their annual Invitational.
Week of January 2nd
Last week the Hornets lost to conference rivals Downers Grove South, despite a hard-fought battle, which puts at 1-1 on the conference level so far. Solid performances were put in by all, but with illness and vacation, we just didn’t have the manpower. On Saturday, the Hornets hosted some of the best teams in the state at our annual James Wheelock College Events Invitational. The Hornets were exhausted from the night before but managed to rally some great swims. Notable performances were made by Joe Ofenloch and Tommy Matulis in the 400 IM, Justin Baron and Sam Nilles in the 1000 free, and James Kiwiet placed 6th in diving. The Hornets host Addison Trail/Willowbrook this coming Friday, and send the divers to Glenbrook North for the Hinsdale Central Red Devil Diving Invitational on Saturday.
Week of December 26th
This past week the Hornets placed 7th at the LincolnWay Central Invite. We had a season high of 86% season best times, with notable swims by junior Kyle Brennan, freshman Tommy Matulis, seniors Cullen Gordon and Matt Delgado, and sophomores Jack Yurkovich and Kamil Kawiecki. James Kiwiet placed 2nd in diving and Tommy Matulis finished 4th in the 200 IM and 3rd in the 100 Breast.
Week of December 12th
This past week the Hornets had their first conference victory of the season against Morton. Varsity won 113-53, and JV lost a close one 66-78. Man of the Meet on the Varsity level was Jack Yurkovich; he had a great 100 Free and 100 Back against the Mustangs. Man of the Meet on the JV level was Kamil Kawiecki for his work in the 50 (26.25) and the 100 Free.
Saturday the Hornets traveled to Bloomington for their annual Varsity Invite. The Hornets finished 9th overall but recorded some solid swims for the day. Tommy Matulis was Man of the Meet for his 4th place finish in the 200 IM and 3rd in the 100 Breaststroke. Other noteworthy swims were recorded by Jack Yurkovich in the 100 Back and 100 Free, Matt Delgado in the 200 Free and 100 Back and Kyle Brennan and Sam Nilles in the 50 Free.
Week of December 5th
This past week the men had their first dual meet of the season, swimming at Oswego East. Varsity lost 57-129 and JV lost 35-129. Man of the Meet on the Varsity level was Derek Driggers for his strong performance in the 100 Fly and Medley Relay. Charlie Nilles was the Man of the Meet on the JV level for his 200 Free and 100 Back swims. This week the Hornets have their first conference dual meet at Morton on Thursday, and then the Varsity team travels to Bloomington on Saturday for their annual invitational.
